  1. Many of us who have already experienced it first hand will be praying for you as you start your long and dark quest....
  2. At the firm I work at during the day, our first e-file Jan 14, the client received BOTH of her refunds yesterday. So the returns must be getting to Ohio.
  3. The IT-1040 for Ohio is not yet approved for Paper Filing. It can be e-filed with no problem. If you need one to mail, http://dw.ohio.gov/tax/documents/forms/ohi...40_2007_SFI.pdf ATX must get approval from the State of Ohio for the mail in form. E-file only sends the data, so the form is not important. Ohio is historically slow in its approval process.
  4. Eat at home one night, instead of that nice restaurant, and send $50, once a season, in support of this marvelous and extremely valuable website. If all the active participants would do that, the webmaster could worry about other more important issues. Just My Not So Humble Opinion. Jack
  5. I am not aware of any IRS guidelines concerning which parent claims the children in this kind of situation. I personally have chosen the way that is best for the client in terms of refund. I have been doing this for over 9 years with no issues to this point. I don't think the IRS will concern themselves with such a trivial issue. I have developed an Excel spreadsheet that quickly shows the benefit good or bad for filing separately versus filing jointly. On the sheet, I also include my extra fees for the second return in the comparison. If you would like, I will be glad to send it to you for you to check out. It also makes it real handy to print for the client.
  6. About 2/3 of my married clients here in Ohio benefit that way, anywhere from $150-$400. I decide which children go where, so that neither parent has to pay IRS. I don't think it matters which one claims them, since they are married and living in the same household.
  7. No Ohio Acks yet for me either.
  8. Looks like I will need 2 boxes of chocolates at the end of the season....
  9. I just enrolled for FeeCollect. I was told by several sources (including 2 different sales reps from CCH) that the $10 transmittal fee did not apply to FeeCollect, only Bank Products. When I got acks this morning, there was a message that "Transmittal Fee for SBBT is now $10." It came with my acks. Is anyone using FeeCollect yet? Is it charging the $10 transmittal fee? Too many contradictory answers, and too much bogus information from CCH for my liking. Note to self: Start sending requests for Tax Software demos from several companies for your summer "Find a new software" project.
  10. I got it!! I figured out how to delete the old account information, and get things working properly. The process is a bit lengthy... In a nutshell: 1) Uninstall the 2007 program using the uninstall from the start menu on the desktop 2) Move the entire folder - C:/Program files/ATX2007 to another directory in another folder. Where is not important, but knowing where you move it is. 3) Re-install the software using the new installation codes. This will completely start the process over. 4) Do all updates 5) Set all preferences 6) Rollover a test return and associated preparer info, etc... 7) If you had already done returns, use the import function to bring them back. (this is where knowing where you moved the old folder comes into play. Your files will be in the database folder of the ATX2007 folder you moved. If anyone needs more detailed instruction, please send me a message, and I will be glad to give you whatever help I can.
  11. Update... Neither process worked... Going to try something else... Tech no-support is not open now...
  12. Thank You Beth. I will try it, and deleting cookies. I want to say again, how much I/we appreciate having you on the board. We might even send you a box of chocolates when tax season is over, just to say thanks...
  13. All I need to know is where in the registry this information is stored... Chances are that all the people who can answer that question are job hunting today....
  14. The firm I work for developed our own organizer many years ago. It does not carry forward information, but is EXACTLY the way we want it. We also make it available on our website for download and printing by the clients. The file requires username and password to access it. Saves us a TON of postage, allows us to make running changes as/if we need to, etc.
  15. 2:39 PM EST, problem is still not resolved. Rather than put address information in those lines, I am moving the "other interest" that is NOT mortgage interest, to line 48. Problem "temporarily" solved.
  16. One year from today, I HOPE you can say the same thing... We will see if MAX is still here... (just count me skeptical)
  17. We are having exactly the same issue here. I am hesitant to call "technical support", so any help from the former employees would be greatly appreciated. Just let me know where that customer information is stored so I can delete it, and start the install over.
  18. The firm I work for during the day, (3,000+) clients, and I myself, (150+) only use 1040. The 1040A and 1040EZ were designed for people using a pencil. It is no more effort to do 1040 and one size fits all.
  19. The legend "Important Tax Return Document Enclosed" must appear in a bold and conspicuous manner on the outside of the envelope and on each letter explaining why no check is enclosed, or on each check or account statement that is not perforated to the recipient statement. The legend is not required on any tax form, tax statement, or permitted letter of tax consequences included in a statement mailing. Further, you need not pluralize the word "document" in the legend simply because more than one recipient statement is enclosed.
  20. OldJack is absolutely correct. The only exemptions from Social Security taxes on wage earnings for a person under 18 are: 1) Newspaper carrier as noted by a previous poster 2) "Where the minor is working for his parent's non-corp business. That should be a W2 verses a Sch-C." Otherwise, all earnings as wages are subject to Social Security taxes.
  21. I finally talked to Barbara Jarrett in the sales department. She decided to relocate to Georgia. She and William are the only two from Caribou that relocated, so far. She also assists in the technical service center. She has been with ATX for over 5 years. She knows more about the program than all three of the tech support (?) people I spoke with put together. She gave me the straight answer to our dilema. If you have an office in a separate location, you must have a second license agreement for each office. So, we (at the firm) spent an additional $1100+ for MAX. If you want knowledgeable answers from the sales department, ask for Barbara Jarrett.
  22. Tonight... Chicken Cordon Blue Baked Sweet Potatoes Whole Kernel Corn For dessert... Apple Sauce Cake (home made) Butter Pecan Ice Cream. (I married the best cook in 15 states)
  23. Where does he mention "tech support" (term used half-heartedly) personnel that are supposed to help me with an income tax preparation program, and did NOT know the purpose of Schedule C. I had 3 different "techs" on the phone (99 minutes) and none of the three knew what Schedule C was for. My problem finally got addressed when they sent an e-mail and my customer's file to William Tasker. He answered to me in an e-mail in less than 20 minutes. I sent him an additional question about the issue, and he answered that in less than 5 minutes. This situation was NOT a telephone system problem. I am offended that this executive thinks I am that ignorant.
  24. I have no connection to CCH or ATX except using their software. I would love to be in the information circle. I don't have deep pockets, but would be willing to invest some start-up venture capital, with the understanding of the risks. Please add me to your list.
