  1. Repairs. This one is a no-brainer.
  2. Put your cursor in the colored bar at the top of the small page. Now hold down the left click button and drag it over till you can see the maximize icon.
  3. Reboot! First thing in the morning, and no less than every 4 hours. It is a Windows thing.
  4. That is a Windows trait. I just do the maximize without thinking. I would not have even considered that an error. Windows does that sometimes when you just reboot. You are correct. One click and Warp Factor 8 Mr. Sulu!!
  5. Did you call tech support? There is a fix.
  6. The server connect problem is ongoing all year. ATX will never make that go away. It is the nature of the beast. However, there was no change after installing the update. Program crashing has been very infrequent. No more often than any other Windows program. I defy you to show me a Windows based program that does not occasionally "crash." One example will be sufficient.... Don't try to change the discussion. The updates have not created ANY additional issues all year.
  7. At the firm, I installed it on 10 workstations and our server/workstation. Not a single issue. We are at 2,200+ clients now. Installed at home, peer to peer with 3 computers. Not a single problem.
  8. I refuse to get involved in the discussions about which plan or which company they choose to purchase their health insurance. Those decisions are NOT a tax matter. I am only handling the "shoved down our throats" responsibility of telling them the tax consequences of their choices. Otherwise, another client to fire.
  9. "Cloud convenience" is highly overrated, and extensively embellished in advertising campaigns. I have my business and client information on MY server, and no where else. I have adequate backup protocols that will survive any calamity and do NOT use an online backup service. I feel the same way about online backup as I do Cloud Tax Software.
  10. Agree with Joan. If it is the first 4 years of an initial Bachelors Degree, use AOC.
  11. It was a great idea by someone at the IRS. Should we call CNN for an unbelievable news story?
  12. When I process updates, both here at home and at the firm, nothing on the screens or settings change. What am I doing wrong?
  13. I will not investigate, nor will I ever use a cloud based ANYTHING for my tax business. Too much risk. Period.
  14. I need some input from all the learned people on this board. Tell me if I am right or wrong. Clients, ages 45 & 42 with 2 teenage kids, wants to deduct as charitable mileage, their trips to baseball, soccer and basketball practice for their school teams. Their children are on the teams. She has documented close to 4,000 miles in 2014. Mileage to all practices, home and away games. My conclusion from research... Charitable miles can be deducted if you are driving to take part in an charitable event for a charitable organization. I do not consider the school sports games to be charitable events, therefore no charitable deduction for the mileage. Opinions?
  15. I should be in TN. Thanks for letting me vent...
  16. Call tech support. There is a fix. We dealt this this at the beginning of 2013 season and it has not cropped up again.
  17. Update: Life situations have changed. I will not be able to attend. I am going to be in a dark funk all day today and tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and words of encouragement. It is great having another group of people to consider as a family.
  18. Always remove all unused W-2, 1099 (all varieties) and other forms each year. Keeps things clean, makes the file size smaller, allows the return to open faster, and will not cause problems like you described.
  19. Expect the CP2000. Form 5498 does not include dates of deposit nor the source of the funds. Get all the information together. Copy of the check when she received the payment. This will show the date of withdrawal. Statement showing the date and amount of the deposit into the new account. Statement showing that the new account is a qualified retirement account. Then when the CP2000 shows up, you will have all you need to respond. In this scenario, you cannot prevent the CP2000.
  20. It is with great sadness that I post this. I just received word that Bill Harmon, Tri-Village High School 1974 graduate (we were classmates) and long time resident of New Madison, Ohio passed away this morning at his home in Maryville, Tennessee. He lost his third battle with cancer. He was my best friend in High School, and his early passing will touch me for the rest of my life. Viewing will be Monday, March 30, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Broadway Baptist Church located at 2329 East Broadway Avenue, Maryville, TN 37804. Funeral service will follow. Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 9:30 AM at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery located at 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. He will be interned with full military honors. I will post a link to his obituary just as soon as it is available. Arrangements being handled by Miller Funeral Home located at 915 W Broadway Ave, Maryville, TN 37801 Phone:(865) 982-6041 I am taking two days out of my schedule to attend. Approx 400 miles from here. Gonna be a long week...
  21. That line comes from a Turbo Tax commercial!!
  22. No profit, no SEP contribution.
  23. You are correct. Contributions from Jan.1, 2015 thru Apr. 15, 2015 can be designated for either 2014 or 2015. The client just needs to be sure that the person taking the deposit notates it correctly.
  24. The parent claiming the student as dependent is eligible for education credits. Nowhere in the education credit rules does it mention passing, attending or completing in order to be eligible. The word used is "enrolled."
  25. Have your client follow the instructions on the letter precisely and immediately. Add form 14039 to his return. Fill it in and be sure he signs it as well as the 1040 when you paper file it. Make sure he sends the required identity documents requested. If you e-file it WILL be rejected. We are up to 17 clients having their SS# compromised this year.
