Clients should not leave me....this is why
Jack from Ohio replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
I accept very few retreads, but the ones I do get full and expanded pricing with NO discounts. The big box stores, TT, TaxCut and freefile get me a lot of retread prospects which means increased earning potential. -
Nope. Only abatement of late payment or underpayment penalties associated with the amount due. The repayment is subject all collection actions of the IRS.

Best one word description on the planet!!!

You needed a different tech. Drake runs peer to peer. Check for malware on your computer. Use Malwarebytes to find it. I will bet you a banana split you have a bug.

I/we efile ALL extensions. An e-file acknowledgment is the ONLY proof of filing that will appease the IRS. Not even certified mailing. We also require a written request from any client that calls and asks for us to file an extension. This is a zero tolerance policy so a client cannot say... "I called and told you to file an extension."

The 1095-A is from the INSURANCE Marketplace. This is the part of this story that really chaps my backside. We have been given the task (imposed on us whether we like it or not) of policing their INSURANCE law. This is why I have increased ALL my clients fees with a separate line on the invoice marked "Affordable Care Act Surcharge."

I tend to ask... "What did you do with all that extra income?" I get a lot of blank stares...

Which shop are you using to get it repaired? I have resorted to a Ouija board... I may want to consider a different repair shop next season.

You assume that clients will read the comparison forms....

How to change state return from efiled to mailed
Jack from Ohio replied to Margaret CPA in OH's topic in E-File
Reasons I do not use the letters in the program. -
I have never seen the field referred to in the rejection code to be in error. Look for teenager with a part time job that filed to get a refund, ex that "says" the child wasn't claimed, and on the worst case scenario, the child's SS# has been used as a dependent on a fraudulent return.

I can attest to this being absolute truth from 20+ years of personal experience. Unfortunately, clergy tend to be the ones more willing to bend and/or ignore Caesar's laws than the average taxpayer.

On a good day, I can have 3 open. Joint and both separates. Makes it a breeze... How many other software packages allow up to 3 returns open at the same time?

Rental property mortgage interest on Schedule A
Jack from Ohio replied to MarkM's topic in General Chat
Simple answer - No. -
I wholly disagree. Speed is #4 or #5 on my list of priorities when preparing a return. Accuracy and completeness are #1 & #2. My pricing reflects my attitudes in this area.

Stock Sales - Short Term A and Long Term D
Jack from Ohio replied to Yardley CPA's topic in General Chat
These two ladies have it totally correct. Only make entries for transactions NOT labeled "A" or "D." -
Positively!! This is the method preferred by those that know more about tax returns than which worksheet the numbers go in. It is intuitive to see a number on the return and be able to jump to the input rather than the other way around as in Drake and most other so called "high end" tax softwares.
-
Yes. Go into the return, make the changes, recreate the e-file. No problems. Have made changes like you describe many times.
-
No. Household income includes Filer, spouse (if applicable) and DEPENDENT's income if the dependent has a requirement to file. I your case, the son answers that he has been covered, but the parents do not consider his income as part of household income.

Doing everything except what I should be working on...

They are intent on driving the firms with more than a few hundred clients away. I have sensed this business motive for the past 4 years. Those users with 500 or less compose 80% of their customer base. The other 20% consume 80% of their tech support time. Again, CCH does NOT understand how to keep a customer base happy. They DO NOT understand customer service.
-
You are completely correct.

Well being a bit of a geek, I have many different things and usually a bunch of things going at the same time. Once you try dual monitors, your computer usage life will never be the same. Like you, no major issues this year.

I am beginning to smell a late April Fools joke from the OP....
