  1. Does your printer print Duplex? Go get a ream of 3 hole paper. 150 double side pages will fit in a 1/2 inch binder.
  2. I agree 100% with both.
  3. The Brother printers I referred to do duplex and even copy and scan duplex. In my book, best choice out there.
  4. RUN FORREST RUN!!!
  5. MFC-8680DN by Brother or it's newest version. I have used mine for 4 tax seasons now. New High Output toner carts are $89. I refill them at least twice for $12 each time. Refill gives me the same number of copies as the new cart. Print, copy, scan & fax. I paid $349. Newest versions are about the same. Here is the latest version. The carts can be refilled the same as the ones I use. http://www.staples.com/Brother-MFC-8710DW-Laser-Multifunction-Printer/product_728463 $313 + tax.
  6. Don't use the disk for installation. Download the latest install file from the support site. If reinstalling with the other program still there does not work, you will have to delete the old program before reinstalling. This is more than using the uninstall function of Windows.
  7. Always use the latest downloaded file from the ATX site. Don't get me started on CCH's "tech support."
  8. 2% per month will not get you into any trouble with State. Be sure that your invoice states that the 2% will be charged and then follow through. You will be amazed how 2% actually charged will motivate people to pay you.
  9. Much too cushy and nice. State the facts clearly and concisely without all the "fluff." She will either pay you or not. Either way, you should fire her. Your letter should include the fact that you won't have time for her this coming tax season. She is leeching on you. You need to stop enabling her to do that.
  10. And black helicopters full of blue helmeted troops are circling above just waiting to pounce... Get REAL!! Dept of labor has NOTHING to do with the IRS. IRS regs are all that matter. Paranoia is a slow steady brain killer!!
  11. For certain employers, types of coverage and situations, there is transition relief from the requirement to report the value of coverage beginning with the 2012 Forms W-2. This transition relief applies to the 2013 Forms W-2 and will continue to apply to future calendar years until the IRS publishes additional guidance. (Note: employers generally are required to provide employees with the 2013 Forms W-2 in January 2014.) Any guidance that expands the reporting requirements will apply only to calendar years that start at least six months after the guidance is issued. See the “Optional Reporting” column in the below chart for the employers, types of coverage, and situations eligible for the transition relief. http://www.irs.gov/Affordable-Care-Act/Form-W-2-Reporting-of-Employer-Sponsored-Health-Coverage
  12. Use it in your garden!! The ultimate recycling!!
  13. I have reduced from 4, 4 long drawer filing cabinets to 1, 4 drawer cabinet and after this season, there will only be three drawers used. 2 for current clients, one for former clients. Micro-shredded paper is perfect mulch in the garden. Start with everything not wanted pulled or killed, and 2 inches deep or more will stop 95% of anything growing. It also holds moisture and over the winter just disappears. My garden looks like it has snowed in it.
  14. These letters are only sent to preparers that have numerous issues with returns they have prepared. As manager or owner, if the hammer falls, it will get you as well. In addition, these letters are the 3rd or 4th communication about these items. This should have been taken seriously 2 years ago when it started. Just remember, for preparer penalties in a firm, the scat runs UPHILL from the IRS.
  15. That will necessitate a trip to WI after tax season! I think I will refrain from travelling to WI during the winter months!!
  16. Just exactly how is this information going to be sent to the IRS? Don't overthink this and turn off your logical mind. The IRS will ONLY receive the W-2 information. GOOD GRIEF!! Has the IRS struck such deep fear into all of us that we think they are monitoring all conversations? Don't overthink it!!!
  17. Moving toward not keeping ANY paper. Digital is too easy. Archive takes up 1 cu.ft of space. Total security of 10 years of records only requires a fire safe about 3 ft high. The only thing in the client's folders are demographic info and special notes. This is the second year of my moving this way.
  18. Don't go congratulating till the date is actually here and things get started.
  19. The date is not here yet....
  20. Don't overthink this provision. As long as the employer adds it to boxes 1, 3 & 5 and withholds tax appropriately, what you call it is totally irrelevant.
  21. Same as last two years. This will be the norm from now on.
  22. Link is bad.
  23. I have several personal-professional opinions that will prevent me from ever participating. I wait to hear your feelings after tax season is over.
  24. Turbo-Tax does not meet the definition of "a good client" by any set of standards. The people who start with Turbo-Tax are only looking for cheap costs and maximum refunds. They rarely give a damn about rules and laws. NO WAY will I ever be connected with them. My advice is the same to the OP. RUN FORREST RUN!!!
