  1. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/important-update-about-your-eservices-account Revised Information for e-Services Users 02/06/2017 In an era of increasing cybercrimes, the IRS must strengthen the security around our online tools, including e-Services, to protect taxpayers. Between December 1 and December 16, the IRS mailed Letter 5903 to certain e-Services users who have access to sensitive data and asked them to revalidate their identities within 30 days, either online or by phone. If you received Letter 5903 and did not revalidate your identity within the 30 day time frame, we have suspended your e-Services registration account for security purposes. You will be unable to access your e-Services registration account until you revalidate your identity with the e-Services Help Desk. How will I know if access to my account was suspended? If you attempt to use your username and password to access your e-Services registration account and it has been suspended, you will receive a generic error message asking you to contact the e-Services Help Desk. How do I validate my identity through e-Services Help Desk? You must have Letter 5903 when you call the e-Services Help Desk. It contains a unique security code that you must provide to the Help Desk assistor. You must provide the code from your letter and answer a series of identity-proofing questions to authenticate your identity. If you cannot authenticate yourself over the telephone, you will receive instructions to register through Get Transcript or visit a Taxpayer Assistance Center to verify your identity in person. What documents do I need if I must go in person to a Taxpayer Assistance Center to revalidate? First, if told you must identity proof in person, you must make an appointment to visit a Taxpayer Assistance Center by calling 844-545-5640.You must bring government-issued picture identification, such as a driver’s license, AND either a social security card or an original or certified embossed birth certificate. After you successfully revalidate your identity at a Taxpayer Assistance Center you will need to contact the e-Services Help Desk to have your e-Services registration account reinstated and your password reset. What do I do if I did not receive a letter? Letters were mailed to e-Services users who have accessed their e-Services account in the past year and who can access the Transcript Delivery System. Letters were mailed to the addresses we have on file for you. If you have access to TDS and have been active in the past year, you should have received a letter by the end of December 2016. If you did not receive a letter and your e-Services registration account has been suspended, contact the e-Services Help Desk for assistance. What do I do if I validated my identity but my account is suspended? If you validated your identity, you need only call the Help Desk for a quick reinstatement and password reset. How do I validate my identity online? You can register through Get Transcript Online, which allows you to validate your identity through our identity authentication process called Secure Access. The purpose is solely to authenticate your identity. You must have an email address, knowledge of your most recently filed tax return and financial information from either a credit card or other loan numbers. You also must have a mobile phone in your name to complete the process in one session, or you must request an activation code by mail. Before you start, please review Secure Access: How to Register for Certain Online Self-Help Tools. If you successfully registered through Get Transcript online after January 28, 2017, you must call the e-Services Help Desk to have your e-Services registration account reinstated. Important: Do not try to use your IRS Letter 5903 security code as your authorization code for Secure Access. The Letter 5903 security code is only for those who call the e-Services Help Desk; not for those validating their identities online. What about the emails requesting e-Services account updates? These are scams. Currently, there are several variations in circulation. One version seeks to capitalize on IRS efforts to strengthen e-Services. The IRS will not send you an email asking you to click on a link to update your account. These phishing scams that attempt to steal your e-Services credentials, are one reason the IRS is undertaking efforts to make the authentication process stronger. I thought Secure Access for e-Services users was delayed? At this time, our goal is to validate the identity of e-Services users who have access to taxpayer data using robust identity proofing techniques including Secure Access online or phone authentication with a unique security code sent to you by mail. We expect to fully implement the Secure Access identity authentication process for e-Services this year. Secure Access is a two-factor, or two-step, process that will require returning users to enter their username and password plus a security code sent by cell phone to access their accounts.
  2. This has been the biggest benefit of scanning records first and entering from the scan. Even W2s can have tiny bold-faced numbers that are hard to read. I'm always zoomed in. I can also keep the lights in my office lower.
  3. You should also probably check the zen jiggle box. And you can minimize to the system tray by click on the green down arrow.
  4. We stopped using our spreadsheet and just use ATX. We assign sequential client number as they come in and sort on that column. Also have three user defined columns: Date In, Date Done, Year End.
  5. Steps to take if you become a victim If you are a victim of identity theft, the Federal Trade Commission recommends these steps: File a complaint with the FTC at identitytheft.gov. Contact one of the three major credit bureaus to place a ‘fraud alert’ on your credit records: Equifax, www.Equifax.com, 1-800-766-0008 Experian, www.Experian.com, 1-888-397-3742 TransUnion, www.TransUnion.com, 1-800-680-7289 Contact your financial institutions, and close any financial or credit accounts opened without your permission or tampered with by identity thieves. If your SSN is compromised and you know or suspect you are a victim of tax-related identity theft, the IRS recommends these additional steps: Respond immediately to any IRS notice; call the number provided or, if instructed, go to IDVerify.irs.gov. Complete IRS Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit, if your efiled return rejects because of a duplicate filing under your SSN or you are instructed to do so. Use a fillable form at IRS.gov, print, then attach the form to your return and mail according to instructions. If you previously contacted the IRS and did not have a resolution, contact us for specialized assistance at 1-800-908-4490. We have teams available to assist.
  6. I roll over as needed until 4/1. Then I go to rollover and check the Not Rolled Over box and roll over the rest to file extensions. Do the same for entities except we do it on 3/1. Even with the new due dates, we find it more logical to do all entities on 3/1.
  7. You guys were scaring me because we get a lot of 941 account transcripts. Glad to see we still can! Bulldog, when I choose Account Transcript for a business client, the tax form list changes to 941, 1120, 940, Civil Penalty and 1120H. The 1120H is a drop down box that has tons of forms listed.
  8. I have to write my signature date on every 8879. I also have to enter it in the EF info form. Now I don't.
  9. Thanks for the date idea! I knew there had to be lots of ways I could use this.
  10. I thought you had to calculate the retained value even if the parent continues to live in the house.
  11. And it's a 'quit claim' deed not 'quick claim'.
  12. In the past, I've called the local storefront tax shops and asked what a 1040 & Sch A with state would cost. Might be time to do that again. Gotta know your competition.
  13. I've never had one die. Tried a Canon scanner once and it died in less than 2 years.
  14. They feed right thru my ScanSnap S1500.
  15. 250 in my area which is less than Block or Liberty. Rural area but we have more millionaires per sq mile than most places in the US. I got a lot of little old lady clients one year because a firm in town set their minimum to 500.
  16. And when you discard/re-add you can just close/reopen and the county will be repopulated.
  17. I stand corrected. You don't have discard and re-add. Rollovers use the customized master. You only need to discard/re-add for returns that were rolled over before the customization.
  18. Just discard and re-add the 502 and 502D. You just have to choose the county and town on the data page.
  19. I can't believe how much you all like inhaling chemical off-gassing of plastics and other materials. I try to avoid those chemicals at all cost in every product I use.
  20. I haven't used them in over a year. I never used the EIN one because I delete the 1099G. (I'd consider that a tip.)
  21. Creating Links Between Fields source: http://files.cchsfs.com/doc/atx/2014/Help/14.3/Content/Both-SSource/Creating Links Between Fields.htm Use the Start Link and Finish Link feature to create a link between two fields on any form (including schedules and worksheets). This function, represented by the Start Link/Finish Link toggle button on the toolbar above an open return, links text or numeric values from one field (source field) to another field (destination field). After a link has been established, changes made in the Start Link field are reflected in the destination field. When checking a return for errors (Check Return), the Finish Link field (destination) will be marked as an overridden field. Start/Finish links automatically roll over from prior year or prior period returns. To create custom links: Select the source field. Do one of the following: On the toolbar, click the Start Link button. From the Edit menu, select Start Link. Navigate to the destination field on any form, schedule, or worksheet. Do one of the following: On the toolbar, click the Finish Link button. From the Edit menu, select Finish Link. If it takes longer than 40 seconds to finish the link, the request will be canceled. Destination fields have a green background. Creating links between fields: example of source/destination fields Canceling Relationship between Two Linked Fields To undo the link between two fields: Place the cursor in the destination (green) field. Do one of the following: On the toolbar, click the Restore button. From the Edit menu, select Restore Field. Press Ctrl+R. When the green background disappears from the destination field, you know the link has been removed. Exceptions: When Fields Cannot Accept a Link The following fields cannot be linked: Input or Detail Sheets Itemized Lists Circular references or mathematical loops Whenever a field cannot be linked, you'll receive a message that will alert you to this exception.
  22. We need a tips and tricks sticky post to share this kind of stuff. Here's the link: http://files.cchsfs.com/doc/atx/2014/Help/14.3/Content/Both-SSource/Creating Links Between Fields.htm This solves a couple issues with MD forms (paging Richcpaman!) like automating the county name on the 502D worksheet and the new physical address field, but I'm sure I'll find more uses for it. And if you knew about this and didn't tell me, this is for you ಠ_ಠ.
  23. This seems to imply that it is subject to SE and should have been on a W2.
