I thought they meant that if you click on a link in PDF that it will open in Edge and not your default browser. But you're right, most of the time you open your browser first and then search.

Batch Extensions (4868) - is this possible in ATX?
Abby Normal replied to Teresa K's topic in General Chat
My 4868 form customizations make creating efile extensions a lot faster, but still, having to create one at a time is ludicrous. -
Microsoft is back to it's old tricks. https://www.howtogeek.com/774542/windows-11-officially-shuts-down-firefoxs-default-browser-workaround/amp/

I stopped using CCleaner because it was clearing all my settings in Firefox add-ons, which was terrible annoying. I set all my browsers to clear the cache when closing, but I don't clear cookies or site data because it makes logging in that much harder. But Firefox does have an 'Exception List' to save cookies you want, so once I've done that for my regular sites, I'll have FF delete cookies and site data on close, as well.

2021 Tax Organizers - Adding Additional Questions?
Abby Normal replied to ETax847's topic in General Chat
Account transcripts are available anytime and are very useful for estimates, amounts applied forward, stimulus checks and (I assume) child tax credit payments. But, yes, wage transcripts aren't useful before summer, or even fall. They used to be partially useful around late March but recently I've seen them blank into summer months. -
2021 Tax Organizers - Adding Additional Questions?
Abby Normal replied to ETax847's topic in General Chat
I encourage all my clients and friends and family to get an IRS account. I've had one for a very long time and it's extremely convenient. -
I too use the highlighting feature to show clients where to sign when I'm sending them forms electronically.
-
It doesn't allow you to edit the existing pdf but you can use the typewriter function to type anywhere on the document. We use that to put notes on client records or to paste in a calculator tape.
-
I have both the Pro and Standard version (older) but unless the checkboxes are perfect squares, it doesn't turn them into checkboxes. My clients have to type an 'x' in the yes or no boxes. I complained to ATX that there checkboxes were not squares but they did not care enough to fix them. Some of the boxes on the organizer are square and it does turn them into checkboxes that can be clicked. I bought the latest version directly from Kofax but I had previously bought several older versions on eBay for like $30 a copy. You'd probably be happy with Nuance version 3.0, if you can find a copy of that on ebay or Amazon.
-
Adobe free reader has a 'typing' feature, too, but they call it something odd like 'signing'(?) and it's sort of hidden. But I use and much prefer Foxit.
-
You don't need an attorney. You can negotiate on behalf of your client, same as an attorney would. I've done this once that I recall.
-
I use Kofax (formerly Nuance) standard power pdf to concert any pdf with boxes or blank lines to fillable. It's not 100% accurate all of the time, but it's 1,000% better than making one box or line at a time fillable.

I've been pushing that since a client mailed an IRS check to the state, and the state cashed it, but never told us there was an overpayment on the account (thieves!).

I've been on 8.1 since 2013 and will wait until support is dropped to move to 11. I just need an OS to work and not cause any problems. It's my software that makes me money. An OS is just an expense, especially if it's problematic and wastes your time.

Remember when MS said that 10 would be the last version of Windows? I guess 10 was enough of a disaster, that they thought they'd better move on. https://www.theverge.com/2015/5/7/8568473/windows-10-last-version-of-windows

I'm sure you would have to check a box approving the update. Once it's available for your computer, you can just hide it if you don't want it. (Is the hide updates feature still available in 10?) Anyway, I'm sure you won't be forced to 11.

Any who could not tell me about their stimulus payments, were filed as if they had previously received the max amount. So any IRS adjustment would only be in the taxpayer's favor, which makes clients happy... usually.

I've never entered an address from a brokerage 1099. Just abbreviated name and amounts.

I've never needed a 6198 form for a basis restricted S corp loss carryover. If the 1040 was done wrong, just amend it and use the Basis form to carryover the loss.
