I have both the Pro and Standard version (older) but unless the checkboxes are perfect squares, it doesn't turn them into checkboxes. My clients have to type an 'x' in the yes or no boxes. I complained to ATX that there checkboxes were not squares but they did not care enough to fix them. Some of the boxes on the organizer are square and it does turn them into checkboxes that can be clicked. I bought the latest version directly from Kofax but I had previously bought several older versions on eBay for like $30 a copy. You'd probably be happy with Nuance version 3.0, if you can find a copy of that on ebay or Amazon.

Adobe free reader has a 'typing' feature, too, but they call it something odd like 'signing'(?) and it's sort of hidden. But I use and much prefer Foxit.

You don't need an attorney. You can negotiate on behalf of your client, same as an attorney would. I've done this once that I recall.

I use Kofax (formerly Nuance) standard power pdf to concert any pdf with boxes or blank lines to fillable. It's not 100% accurate all of the time, but it's 1,000% better than making one box or line at a time fillable.

I've been pushing that since a client mailed an IRS check to the state, and the state cashed it, but never told us there was an overpayment on the account (thieves!).

I've been on 8.1 since 2013 and will wait until support is dropped to move to 11. I just need an OS to work and not cause any problems. It's my software that makes me money. An OS is just an expense, especially if it's problematic and wastes your time.

...request that ATX add the new 511 form, here: https://support.atxinc.com/support/FormRequest We did a lot of these by hand last year and we really need ATX to add this form. Thanks and happy Thanksgiving!

Remember when MS said that 10 would be the last version of Windows? I guess 10 was enough of a disaster, that they thought they'd better move on. https://www.theverge.com/2015/5/7/8568473/windows-10-last-version-of-windows

I'm sure you would have to check a box approving the update. Once it's available for your computer, you can just hide it if you don't want it. (Is the hide updates feature still available in 10?) Anyway, I'm sure you won't be forced to 11.

Any who could not tell me about their stimulus payments, were filed as if they had previously received the max amount. So any IRS adjustment would only be in the taxpayer's favor, which makes clients happy... usually.

I've never entered an address from a brokerage 1099. Just abbreviated name and amounts.

Paranoia.

I've never needed a 6198 form for a basis restricted S corp loss carryover. If the 1040 was done wrong, just amend it and use the Basis form to carryover the loss.

Search ebay, Amazon or some software sites. I bought multiple copies of an older version of one program, for around 20% of what the new version cost from the company who makes it.

We use AnyDesk with great success. Have used many different remote control programs over the years including PC Anywhere, TeamViewer, Remote PC and some I can't even remember.

Things to try: Run the 2014 Admin Console. (Should be in your windows menu under ATX) Start or restart the ATX Server Service in Windows Services. Reinstall 2014 ATX. Download and run ATX database repair batch files. (2014 is no longer available on ATX's sites, so I'm attaching it. These should be downloaded every year, just in case you ever need them.) If these things are too techie for you, call support. ATX2014DataBaseRepair.bat

Copy your data first. Don't use ATX backups or exports. Copy the ENTIRE DATABASE FOLDERS. Then when you install ATX, it will see the database and not try to create a new database. This will work flawlessly most of the time. If not ATX has database repair batch files you can download and run. If you search this forum, you'll see my post from January of 20(?) where we moved all years of ATX to a new Win10 computer, and I provided step by step instructions.

I have screenshots of settings for some of my software, because who can remember all of that. When you only do something once or occasionally, it doesn't get ingrained into your brain. At least, not my brain.

I love the dope slap one! I've used it before when someone pulls a bonehead like typing 'walla' instead of voilà.

Many times, I've corrected carryover amounts internally and not filed an amended return, if the tax didn't change, and the IRS has never inquired. Every year is a separate bucket with the IRS and they do not verify carryover items. They're just not that sophisticated, and they may never be that sophisticated.

Really? I thought the entity would remain intact with the same EIN. I had one a few years ago but the new owners had their own CPAs so I wasn't involved in the nitty gritty.
