It's not ATX (as far as I know). It's the IRS. I just get them to sign the 8879 as is. That number is the corrected amount, in total, even though it's confusing.

Merrill Lynch Tax Reporting Statement - 1099 Misc
Abby Normal replied to Yardley CPA's topic in General Chat
But it may not be a foreign account. I have all kinds of brokerage 1099s with foreign income but the income is all held in a domestic account so there are no FBAR issues. And none of my clients with actual foreign financial accounts have ever received a 1099. -
Do you know if the taxpayer efiled last year? Stupidly, it doesn't say 1040X when creating the efile, but it is the 1040X.

And you can turn off those blue triangles in Preferences.

Open a case with ATX support. They'll need to fix this. It's probably a very rare situation.

Merrill Lynch Tax Reporting Statement - 1099 Misc
Abby Normal replied to Yardley CPA's topic in General Chat
That's what I've always done. It's been reported to the IRS, just like any other 1099MISC. -
LOL Sounds like an interesting site.

This is the way I've always done it, but I'm going to try the preparer change next time.

I had a self-employed client who was embarrassed to tell me they were on Obamacare, so I assessed the $695 penalty. Got the letter and brought it to me. He got the penalty back and some additional PTC, and I got to bill him for a 1040X. Win win! -
Can you get the energy credit on LEASED solar panels?

No, you have to own them. -

Yes it can. Also, consider making a Roth IRA contribution, including Spousal Roth, to get the Retirement Savers Credit. I have an older client who works just enough each year to max out the Roth, just so they can get the credit. It's hard to pass up on free money!

If you're not using the default windows display settings, that can cause display anomalies in ATX. Have you made the windows display settings larger for readability? -
The sales tax that could have been claimed in the prior year is part of the calculation for how much of the state tax refund is taxable. Sometimes it matters and sometimes it doesn't.

Changes should not be done mid-tax season.

MD added a new form and ATX decided we didn't even need it.

My Social Security number may not be considered "private" (whatever that means), and yes my health insurance, employers and many others have had access to it, but that doesn't mean that I'm ok with hackers in Russia having access to it.

I programmed in basic in the 80s. It was both fun and easy.

Except the downside of having all of your clients personal data including Social Security numbers and birth dates is a whole lot worse than having to just restore your data drive.

Follow these instructions CAREFULLY: https://support.cch.com/sfs/solution/000048310/15000

This probably won't help, but here's the latest video from ATX on conversions: https://support.cch.com/videolibrary/sfs#/videoPlayer/RDFPTCWu3og

Lesson: Do your own cloud to a server you control. Hackers won't even know you exist.

An OS either works or it keeps you from working. You don't make money with your OS, you make it with your apps. I'm still on 8.1 on a 9 year old computer and I couldn't be happier. I may never use Win10 on my computer. Our server has 10 but it just hosts data. I skipped 7 entirely, along with all the failed named OS's from Microsoft like Millennium and Vista. XP was the first great OS from MS. 95 & 98 would freeze multiple times per day. Other OS's I've used in order were NEC, Oasis/TheOS, DOS and Xenix. I don't know what OS's the big mainframes used in college but it was likely something from IBM.
