How to I tell my 1040-v that this is for a 1040-x
Abby Normal replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I don't think it goes to a different address. https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-addresses-for-taxpayers-and-tax-professionals-filing-form-1040-v -
There's a Print Preference in ATX to add bookmarks to the PDF, but I whether the bookmarks show on opening a PDF, is a setting in whichever PDF viewer you're using (Adobe, Foxit, etc.).

Names for bands composed of tax professionals

Parks and Rec fan? -
ATX is finicky software but it's also true that there are millions of combinations of hardware components and various software installed, making it difficult to troubleshoot errors. I've never used someone else's computer that didn't have at least a few and perhaps a dozen bits of software installed and running that they did not even know they had. Uninstalling or disabling this software can solve a lot of problems.

Unless the amounts are larger, I just make it all taxable to the state, if the info is not provided. I used to look the mutual funds up, but the MD portion was always a very small percentage. It's usually better to pay a little tax than to pay me to look it up.

Turn off your security software.

You can delete all voice messages and text messages after downloading or listening. Besides, your cellphone stores all messages and voicemails, too.

I give them my Google Voice number so texts come right to my computer. I can type texts to them from my computer. Bonus: No clients have my actual cell number.

I prefer getting documents as files instead of on paper. It saves me from having to scan them. Of course it needs to be a good, clear, readable file. And anything viewable on a phone can be downloaded and either emailed or texted. No need for a screenshot.

I guess DNR is better than DOA. -

The was a very good band near me that I saw awhile ago called Expensive Hobby. My first thought was that hurts the argument with the IRS that it isn't a hobby. -

What if there are no employees working one day, and tips are still received? Does it still go to the employees?

How to properly back up ATX/Payroll software correctly?
Abby Normal replied to IT Guy's topic in General Chat
But, when you go to the backup function there is no way to select all returns, so it's pretty useless. It's also why so many choose export instead, because with export, you can select all returns. -
If the LLC elected S corp status, the owner could be on payroll but if it's a Sch C, @Lee B is correct.

How to properly back up ATX/Payroll software correctly?
Abby Normal replied to IT Guy's topic in General Chat
If you back up the entire Wolters Kluwer folder, you'll have a complete backup. A disk image is also a great option. ATX automatically backs up returns when you close them, and you can manually back up Settings, but to get everything including forms you've downloaded, you need to backup that Wolters Kluwer folder. I've heard it recommended that you end the ATX Server task before backing up or copying. -

Always good to eliminate those when having problems.

Did you recently install windows updates? There have been many reports of the ATX server not working after windows updates. And if you're referring to the internet server, that could be a problem with your internet.

You can find software to shrink the size of PDFs. Some of it is free. Are you printing to PDF or scanning to PDF, because I just printed pages 1 and 2 of a 1040 to PDF and it was only 262 KB. State probably doesn't the the 1040 Schedule forms.

I threw out my magnifying glass when I started working from PDFs of records. You can zoom in as far as you need to on screen.

Missed Required Minimum Distributions
Abby Normal replied to Tax Prep by Deb's topic in General Chat
1. Not if her husband took it out for that year. 2. Yes, all missed RMDs must be taken out ASAP. The penalties are always forgiven by the IRS. The form provides a place to request the penalties be forgiven. And no you don't amend prior years. It all happens in the current year. -
Lots. Go to Fonts in Control Panel and start checking around. Here's three I found right off: Bookman Old Style Bell MT Centaur
