I'm just a one person office. I use a Win10 computer for my work. I have my previous Win8 computer in my office. I don't connect it to the internet anymore. I have the previous computer to that a Win7 at home. I don't connect that to the internet either. I do have a laptop. I bought it when Win8 came out. I upgraded it to Win10. A lot of funny things happened. I won't go into them and I don't have the techie expertise to describe them. Luckily I don't use the laptop for work, just connecting to the internet at home. Many here are more tech knowledgeable than me. For me and my experience, I will not upgrade the OS. I'll buy a new computer with the latest OS.

I can't find in ATX where to do that.

When I go to print client mailing labels, the format is 3 columns. Is there a way to set it for only 2 columns?

Here's How Much Money Accountants And Tax Preparers Earn In Every State

I don't want to look. They all probably make more than me. -
Total Tax cost me $2400. I'm sure off hand what Total Tax has more than Max and less than Advantage.

I've used Bitlocker with my last two computers (Win8 and Win10). But I too like the Symantec (old PGP) shredder function. So I still have the Symantec on my new computer but I don't use if for encryption, just the Bitlocker. Does anyone know if Bitlocker (Windows) has a shredding function?

Reminds me of an old David Bowie song: President Joe once had a dream, so he told them his scheme for a Saviour Machine . . .

I noticed my liability insurance plan has a new form about this with the renewal paperwork.
-
Since I didn't have an activation code for it, I assumed it was something extra that wasn't included in my package. So I just ignored it. I wondered what it was too.

I'm thinking the same thing. I received a PPC notice a while back. I just copied it and made a few handwritten notes on it and called it my plan. I'm just a one person office so I hope it suffices.

I don't have a set policy of raising everyone across the board or a set percentage. I look at each client. If the return is about the same (time wise), I'll raise every 2 or 3 years, $25 or maybe more. If the difficulty increases, I'll raise each year and more in dollars depending on the circumstances.

I tried it a few years ago. I don't recommend it. I had some problems. Since then, I have put ATX on the C drive and let the program put everything in its own files & folders on the C drive as the program wants to. I would install ATX on the C drive and let the ATX program put everything by default to the C drive as well. The program is looking and putting things where they think they should be. I do not want to interfere with that. I do put my client info and pdf copies of the returns and worksheets on my 2nd internal hard drive (E drive in my case). I also have both C & E drives encrypted.

Professional Liability Insurance - Errors & Omissions
Randall replied to Yardley CPA's topic in General Chat
I've always had it. Hate paying the premiums but I don't want to take the chance. -
My question is will insurance companies still be required to issue Forms 1095? I use the form as a convenient documentation for the child credits and Form 8867.

So as of now, there's no fee for 2020 renewal?
-
I thought they brought back the fee.
-
I use it. Very helpful with clients when there's a major change in outcome.

We discussed this some time back. I'm not sure why but the new forms don't require the same numbers on 4a as they used to. If you go to the worksheets/statements, you can see the different amounts correctly. I think you still mark it IRA in the checkbox. It just doesn't show up on 4a. I print out the statements showing all the accounts on 4a and 4b for me and the client. Who knows what the new forms for 2019 will do with this.

I think we're looking at two different windows. I'm on W10. Explorer. Right click on file c or e. Menu pops up. Last item on menu says 'Properties'. Click on Properties. Under General tab.

My windows screen shows both used and free space. It's a 3t external HD.

Just bought a new external HD. Copied files to external HD. Original files show 84gb. New external HD showing this is 363gb. Whoa! Anyone know what may be happening here? Properties window shows 84gb size of file, 363gb size on disk.
