  1. There is also a page in the Efile Info for Preparer Notes that gets transmitted.
  2. If you're not using e-file, go to the Filer Info page and enter the numbers there. Follow-up question: 1. Is there a refund amount? You can't use direct debit unless you're e-filing.
  3. Just wait for the CA ack. CA isn't a piggyback state and isn't transmitted to the IRS but directly to the state. The status of the fed return has nothing to do with CA.
  4. Not to be argumentative, but like what? I've just accepted the fact that the software can't check things like the SSA masterfile to validate SSN to names and dates of death. Or compare the customer's W-2 to the one the IRS receives from an employer because those aren't available. If there are resources that might make the software better, please share. I'll write up and email the suggestion.
  5. That would be great but does the IRS make that database accessible? Can't use what you don't have.
  6. ATX didn't allow stepchild because it isn't in the list of allowable dependent relationships for electronic filing. Those are Values: "CHILD", "FOSTERCHILD", "GRANDCHILD", "GRANDPARENT", "PARENT", "BROTHER", "SISTER", "AUNT", "UNCLE", "NEPHEW", "NIECE", "NONE", "SON", "DAUGHTER", "OTHER" The taxpayer might be picky about the "step" portion but the IRS isn't. "Child" works just fine.

  10. It can be e-filed but since there's tax owed, the 1310 isn't needed. On the Efile Info form there's a checkbox below the PIN method boxes, upper left corner, for "Personal Representative". Check the Personal Rep box then put in the name of the rep in the area labelled Section C. The Personal Rep will also enter the PIN information for the decedent, in effect "signing" the electronic return.
  11. Instead of just posting a complaint, how about decribing the problem in a little more detail. Someone else may have had the same issue. And we know there are still ATX employees who contribute, and a few who lurk, who might be able to expedite it.
  12. There's an Election tab in the 1040 efile info form. Write it out there.

    ATX / CCH

Are you talking about ATX Client Write-Up? I don't remember ATX selling anything called Client Accounting Program.
  14. 350,000 glitches. Chances are this has already been posted: WASHINGTON (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service says up to 350,000 households didn't get their $300 per child refund that should have been part of their economic stimulus rebate checks. The tax agency says human error and computer glitches were responsible for the problem affecting a tiny percentage of the 130 million taxpayers expected to benefit from the paybacks. The agency plans to mail out checks in July to those who missed out on the child refund. ©2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved. 15. Where have you been for the last 2 years? There's one company named CCH. It sells three software packages - prosystems fx, ATX, and Taxwise. When you log into the ATX or Taxwise site, it's all the same - CCH. There isn't a company named ATX or Taxwise. Microsoft sells Word CCH sells ATX ATX is the stuff in your computer, CCH is the company that gets your check.
  16. If they weren't going to support the ATX software, they wouldn't have sales people pushing it. Taxwise is so vastly different from ATX, they couldn't substitute one for the other. All that's been acknowledged from the poster's conversation with sales is that they are selling the ATX product and have a 30-day guarantee. If they send you anything other than ATX, you'd be able to get your money back. If you order steak and the waitress brings you smelly fish, you get to send it back. Right?
  17. "Now for an interesting thought. Since they fired everyone from Maine and all original ATX staff, how do we know that they are even capable of programing the new software? " Just so no one gets the wrong idea....NO ONE who works specifically on the ATX program has been let go. Period. The folks in customer support, shipping, and sales were great people and employees, but they had very, very little to do with the "core business". The heart of the software is still beating strongly despite rumors to the conntrary.

    E-File DOD 2008

Yes you can. The IRS will accept a return with a 2008 DoD. But David S was right. If it's efiled and the SSA data hasn't gotten to the IRS files, the return will reject.
  20. That would create a duplicate retun error. Maybe someone borrowed his SSN and changed the name. More likely, the SSA files are wrong.
  21. It'll have to be mailed. IRS won't accept the efile without the iD number.
  22. Did you use the NJ Sch K1 input forms? Once tried to add the 1065 Partnership K-1 to a return. Didn't get very far.
  23. Curiosity got the better of me so I tried it. It worked that same way last year as this except it was a worksheet in the 1040 form instead or the Ed Expense workbook. The software worked but go ahead and blame the goof on it.
  24. The signature lines on it don't need to be used when it's efiled with a regular return, only when mailed in by itself.
  25. The installment agreement is efiled with the return. http://www.irs.gov/taxpros/providers/artic...=173842,00.html
