  1. Totally!!!!
  2. Form 982
  3. Consult your sales rep or support. I am always able to open prior years and prepare new returns for non-filers. You just cannot efile prior to 2021.

    ATX Renewal

I placed the order in May and paid the price. I know that I want the program, I will use the program and there is no room for negotiation. I got it over with and moved on. I did look at other options in the meantime, but, honestly, I really like the Max program and it has treated me well. Too many other things to worry about.
  5. The problem lies in trying to calm myself down. The client paid electronic estimates. The client thinks that I have a magic want. The one and only time I finally did reach a person; they wouldn't talk to me.
  6. That, too.........I can't afford to purchase the program and replace two perfect condition Win 10 computers in the same year; or in any year. I have my scouts out searching for alternative solutions.
  7. After Quicken 10, you have to subscribe and update each year. Honestly, I have had 6, 7 and 10 and they all work equally well. At least 10 is compatible with Win 11. Have done bookkeeping on Quicken for 30 years. You can still get the disk for 10 if you want to pay the price.
  8. If you purchase a Win 10 computer, be sure that it is at least 8th Generation. Anything prior to that cannot be safely updated to Win 11. I think they are trying to drive us crazy.
  9. I use Quicken 10 for several clients who do not have payroll. I have the disk and it just works and works without any problems.
  10. So be it! At my age, I am not as interested in value as I am in quality and the trust that my family of clients has built up over the years.
  11. I wouldn't do that. I would move forward with the 3 LLC, Sole Proprietors.
  12. So far, the ways that we have found to do it; bypass Security. Not good!
  13. Yes, that has been a consideration. However, she has nowhere to go and no equipment. I will not allow her to continue working from my office and using my equipment since it is attached to my home. She has good work ethics; is a quick learner and could move forward to being very successful in work that she loves, as I do. The present problem is that she has no location in mind yet and I am urging her to make a plan (just in case). Other preparers that I have considered selling or merging my business to, have gotten big heads and the larger they grow, the more expensive they become. I don't want that for my clients. I plan on working as long as I am able. It is definitely time for a Conversation with my Assistant.
  14. Now, just to find a way to update my ineligible hardware to Win 11 before November of 2025. So far, nothing. However, I have a Grandson who writes code for a large Insurance Company; so, who knows?
  15. Longevity is hidden somewhere in my genes as well. However, I am off to the Forest for a week to draw some renewal from the trees and flower garden. I will be in touch daily. Have a wonderful week all.
  16. Update: We cloned the hard drive this afternoon. All went well. Installed the clone and it worked perfectly and passed all the tests. Removed the clone and installed the original hard drive. Again, all is well. The clone is now in a safe place and all systems are go. I have the best IT person ever. He is a client of mine. I take care of his business and he takes care of mine.
  17. Dennis, you had better think about raising that ante. I will be 85 in a few weeks and, truthfully, do like what I do most of the time. At 70, I was only halfway through my career and still working part-time as a Dental Receptionist. I pulled that plug at 73 because my business was really taking off and a few years later in 2012, I took and passed the RTRP test and built an office addition onto my home. These were well thought out decisions and have only recently begun to feel the limitations closing in. When I started this thread, I never expected it to become amazing as it has. At age 70, I set the goal at 80 and look what happened. For nearly five years I have been preparing for whatever comes. Therefore, I am putting those filters in place; but will never willingly walk away until I have to.
  18. My IT person is going to clone my current hard drive next week whild I am on vacation. The clone will be stored in a safe place off site. This is in addition to my full system backups; my jump drive backups of all tax files, etc. It is also imperative with ATX to keep a list of the codes required to install and open each years' program. We even keep a list of our passwords for each year. You just never know when you might need to go back to a prior year. I can't speak for persons who have changed software as I have never deviated from ATX. We also keep paper printouts for several years.
  19. I have been training a very knowledgeable girl, who could be a great success on her own, for four years. However, things have gotten stagnant. She has made no preparations to either take over or move on. I am certainly not going to hand my office and equipment to her on a platter. I guess that I have made things too easy for her. Even my clients would go with her willingly, but I only see complacence. I could quote almost everything that Margaret said except for the fact that we had 279 clients this year; a mixture of everything from simple 1040's to Partnerships. We don't do payroll or other Business entities other than many Schedule C returns.
  20. Yes; and I can and intend to set those filters this coming tax year. I totally agree with everything that you said.
  21. As a person who has been running a business, mostly alone, since 1992; that is not a question with an easy answer. Many of my clients have been with me for all of those 32 years. Because I am tenacious, thoughtful, loyal and hopefully kind; I hesitate to throw them "to the dogs". I also know that working in some capacity is the best and healthiest thing for me. I am more upset with the outside world and the workings of the electronic age than I am with my internal self. Being born left-handed in an age that considered that to be a handicap; I have fought a battle for a great part of my life. Besides, working helps to pay for the things that make life easier and more enjoyable for my husband and myself. "Retire" has never been in either of our vocabularies.
  22. I might be looking forward to only one more year. It depends on the progression of my eye issues. I have already thrown my hat in the ring for 2024, but I have been struggling for the past 6 months or so. The use of frequent eye drops and ointment at night has helped tremendously (depending on the day). This only helps with side effects as there is no cure for Macular Degeneration. I intend to give it my best shot, but honestly, I am getting tired of the spammers and scammers; the computer updates; the computer breakdowns; the constantly having to watch your back for malware, viruses, etc., and the games that Microsoft is playing with our OS. Honestly, it's been a great ride, but it really isn't fun anymore. Hopefully, some R & R will change my attitude. I am tired of waiting for clients to bring in their information, pick up their returns, return calls and take care of issues addressed by the IRS and the States. If it weren't for all of you, I would already be gone. I get my best information here and my best cheering up; as well as the realization that others have it much worse than I do. Thank you again for all of your help and kindness.
  23. Nor do I, for sure.
  24. You are almost certainly asking for a letter of explaination from Wisconsin as Federal pro forma is attached to WI return. I have clients already getting these for various reasons. Also, be sure to be aware that some credits and exclusions are not available to married individuals filing separate returns. Otherwise, I can't help you. I have never been aware of this type of situation. I cannot find any ruling that says you cannot file this way.
  25. Don't forget about adding back the depreciation. I, for one, wouldn't touch this. If you owe, you owe! I have had several sales of rental properties that didn't turn out so badly.
