  1. I, also, have no objection to the PTIN fee. I believe that it separates the preparers who are afraid of scrutiny from those who are not. There has to be some distinction between honest preparers and those that are just trying to make a few bucks on the side. The cost of doing business honestly is increasing yearly. If we are really "a business" we should have some entitlement. These protesters may force me to hang it up before I truly want to.
  2. That's not to say that I don't USE the Save feature. I have it set to every five minutes and I click on the Save button frequently. The precautions that I take are to bail me out in the event of a computer failure. I also do external backups of the entire system periodically. The backup program that I use also allows me to access ATX files directly. I feel fairly safe with the methods that I use for backup, export and security. Just because I have never had a crash, doesn't mean that I won't.
  3. Yes, actually meant "export". Every time I make a major change in a return, I export it to the file in the jump drive. When return is finished, entire return is once again exported. Then, if I wish or need to work on a different computer, return can be imported into the Return Manager. I really don't worry about the Save feature, because I have saved (exported) a copy that I can carry around and/or keep in a safe place away from the computer program.
  4. De......I have no problems with the program, but I am stand alone on all three computers and not networked. Also, I save every return several times to a jump drive as I am working on it. Therefore, we can work on any return from any computer. I know this sounds cumbersome, but it works for us.
  5. Yes, so did I. Unsettling, to say the least.
  6. Ouch!!!!
  7. Tiger Direct and/or BestBuy online.
  8. Too bad they don't have a system to prevent them sending all the "new" offers to customers who have already renewed. Not very good PR. Might have to call my rep when I get home from vacation.
  9. Lots of that this year. Why oh why is right!
  10. This is what my IT person said. He will be so glad! Of course, now he has the Never 10 download on a jump drive if he can only catch the culprits before it is too late.
  11. I ran into this a few years ago. We had to claim it the year that the 1099 was issued; which was not the year of death.
  12. This forum is awesome once again and always. I almost forgot about my Surface 3 Pro, but got that handled yesterday. We really do live in our own little wonderful world.
  13. That is definitely what I LOVED about your post.
  14. OMG.....nope, staying with 7 pro.
  15. I just ran the utility on my third computer and all went well. My IT guy and I thank you again.
  16. Just talked to my IT person and he said to go for it. He has used Steve Gibson utilities in the past and this advice from Abby Normal may help him to solve a lot of problems. So, thank you.
  17. I really like this idea. Now that I recall, his son came in and filed an extension last year and never did come back with his SE info. His excuse, he was getting married in the summer and didn't have the time. I think it is time to rid myself of these losers.
  18. Nope! Could and maybe should do that. Of course, I am never going to get paid.
  19. I had a client whose identity was stolen in 2014. He actually received a letter from IRS re 2015 refund being held BEFORE his legitimate tax return was even filed. So, they are making attempts to stop fraudulent returns. On the other hand; all IRS agents I have spoken to; agree that the PIN system is broken and no longer of any use. When I actually filed this particular client, using the PIN, it was rejected. Had to contact Identity Theft Dept and go through all the hoops again. Good side is: Thief never got the refund.
  20. I have a second year client who called on the 15th of April and told me to file an extension. He said he would bring in the paperwork; which he did. I told him that he would probably owe and needed to get this filed asap. His wife had cashed in three small retirement plans; no taxes withheld. They owe in excess of 1K. We have called several (documented) times and left messages. No replies, No call backs. Where does my responsibility end? I cannot efile the return as the 8879 is not signed. I left a message last night that I would not be calling him again. Suggestions?
  21. I still agree with OP. There should never be a loss allowed here for anyone since it was gifted property. Yes, there most certainly could and probably should be a gain.
  22. Nowhere does It say that anyone is even living in the house. Also, since it is not inherited property, how does anyone ever get to take a loss on personal property?
  23. Don't be so sure. I purchased my HP 2035 several years ago when it first came out and got it at a bargain price. Last year I started looking for a replacement of same model for backup just because I have a supply of toner cartridges for this machine; and also really like it. I had to pay as much for a new one today as I did back then. In any case, have insurance sitting on the shelf in my storage room. When the busy season hits is no time to be shopping for a printer.
  24. I still have (and am using) every HP that I have ever owned. Oldest one is a 1200 LaserJet.
