  1. I have my older girl using Carbonite for her laptop at school -- this sounds like a great deal and I will get my younger girl's computer signed up today. Thanks so much for letting us know! Maybe (if I can figure out how) I'll put our home network drive with all our pictures and music on Carbonite as well.
  2. Well, here's hoping that it works well for all of us! I got a very good price from NewEgg and also went for their extended warranty. Got one of those for my multi-function machine and when something (details fuzzy) went wrong with it a couple years ago, they talked me through some trials, then said, "OK, we're sending you a new one - send this one back in the box the new one comes in; there will be a call tag enclosed." And I was very pleased with that service (and of course hope to never need it again). Catherine
  3. It comes with the scanner software itself, PaperPort, OmniPage, BizCard, and other stuff as well. I don't think there's anything else you need. There may be other stuff you can -use- (and one of the benefits of a TWAIN compliant machine is that it -will- work with other software if you have pre-existing favorites), but nothing else you -need- to make use of the little critter.
  4. Well, I decided to do it, and got myself a duplex scanner. Since the Fujitsu that folks have raved about is no longer made and I read mixed reviews of the quality of its' replacement, I ended up with a Kodak i1120. It's the first peripheral I have ever purchased to run on a Windows machine that worked perfectly, first time, right out of the box. The scan quality is good, too. We'll see how well the customization goes, and how it lasts under the "strain" of a tax office in season. I'll let folks know if there is anything momentous. What I cant' get over is how tiny it is! It's just a little wee box that fits on the corner of my desk, and weighs less than six pounds. It came with cords to plug into any outlet in England or Europe as well as the US/Canada, and quick set-up sheets in about a dozen different languages. I had fun figuring out which language was which. French, Spanish, Italian, Russian -- those were easy. Danish, Dutch, Polish, Finnish -- those were harder. And there are two Oriental languages I'm still not sure of. There are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and one other. And I'm not sure which one is the Japanese and -what- the other one could be! Catherine

If you did something good and reasonably universal, please let me know -- I might want those changes for myself! I'm sure you pulled out the Massachusetts frou-frou.

I'm very glad that it's useful to you. I've tweaked it many times over the years, and pretty much settled on this form. Every year I check for new tidbits -- may have to add in car purchase sales tax and house purchase HUD-1 forms as well. Catherine

I Hope that either my list or the new one in ATX (which I haven't looked at yet) will be just what you need.

  10. My thanks as well, my friend!
  11. Does that mean I'm not even 40 yet?!?! YES!! (Insert happy dance here) :spaz::lol:
  12. I remember having the job of sitting on the floor next to the big B&W console TV, ready to adjust the vertical hold knob when the picture started creeping up. Watched lots of Ed Sullivan and Disney Sunday-night shows from a very steep angle!
  13. At the tax update school I attended last week one person from the IRS said they were going to be doing more of these audits. He used a particular term I can't recall at the moment -- basically, folks who aren't reporting enough income to be living at a decent level in the area where they are located. And as is too often the case, they went at it in a totally ham-handed way. Rather than backing off when they found a family that -had- found a way to survive on low money (by living with family), they tried to crush those poor folks. Because of that poor decision, probably several folks who -are- hiding income have gotten off scott-free, because the IRS refused to say, "OK, you're managing on low funds, good luck to you and goodbye."
  14. All the little poem excerpts are pieces of larger works by Scottish poet Robert Burns.
  15. Well, OldJack, your birthday is NOT listed in your profile, so there is no way for us to know. Add in your birthday, and you'll get timely wishes, too! Since we all did miss it, I hope you had a VERY Catherine
