  1. Take a look at the912project.com, Eric, and don't give up hope -- or the ones who want to destroy this country will win. They need to be reminded that they work for us. What is irresponsible is the size of the government and the out of control spending. Scale it down to any company or individual -- if any of us had clients doing what the country is doing, we'd tell them flat out to cut spending. Stop the hemorrhaging first, and retrench. Tax cuts -- serious, deep, wide-ranging ones -- may be one thing that would force the spending cuts; congresscritters would be able to "lay blame" instead of taking responsibility. Lack of responsibility (personal, corporate, national), needing to pay off the special interests, and ignoring the Constitution are roads to ruin.
  2. Got an email just now, from someone asking if I can tell them how to check on the status of their refund due from the paper-filed 1045 that they sent in ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO!!!! Think I'll just drop EVERYTHING and go research that one! Whaddya think? Quarter past one and I haven't had _lunch_ yet, when breakfast was one slice of toast at 6:30AM. Maybe the bad mood is partially lack of food.... Catherine
  3. I guess the thing I've been saying most often is "No, you're not too late; I put you on extension two days ago." A couple of those folks might actually get filed by 4/15. But most won't, and now I don't have to worry about it! Catherine
  4. I'm just guessing here -- but if you e-file, and the bank account information given is for a "live" account, I don't see how it would _not_ be debited. Remember, my advice here is worth every penny you've paid for it! Catherine
  5. Happy Easter! And also wishing each of you your very favorite Easter creature -- peeps (yellow, blue, green, pink), chocolate bunny (milk, dark or white), chocolate eggs, creme eggs, whatever.
  6. I just tried this. If you undo the estimate tag, the other tags are protected IF THEY ARE EARLIER IN THE DETAIL LISTING. If they come later, the tag is lost. I wonder if this is actually a problem with the order the items come in? Catherine
  7. It's because we've back-burnered those returns....
  8. I play fiddle (or try to, anyway; don't scare the neighborhood animals much at least). There are several yahoo groups geared towards adult fiddle players. Tunes, techniques, questions, encouragement, instrument care, whatever. There are groups for just about any interest there is.
  9. Go to a field. Right-click. Top choice is "Mark As Estimate". Then when you error-check, you get a list of all estimated values.
  10. Usually there is a quarterly "maintenance fee" of which _part_ is RE taxes -- but frequently not spelled out as such. The "wear and tear" and management portions are nondeductible personal expenses -- but is you own/rent enough weeks, those would be rental expenses.
  11. I shouldn't think it would affect us here. But some of us use Yahoo Groups, as well, so those would be affected. I'm going to have SO many Yahoo fiddle group posting to plod through after next week...... haven't even peeked at them since early February!
  12. Sounds like, in that event, we'll have to seriously query the TaxWise users (and/or get demos for ourselves) and see who wants to use that format and who wants to jump to a product like Drake. I really _like_ the ATX forms-based format. Grrr!
  13. Thank you for posting this, KC.
  14. Thank you! It's hard to believe that there is even _one_ source of income that isn't taxed. When you have to report someone's raffle winnings of $25, to find a place where a couple of hundred gets ignored really makes you doubt that you're seeing it right. Catherine
  15. Client has a timeshare that they rent out. Only one week per year, and only a small amount of income (management company takes 40% as a fee; nice gig if you can get it). How do I report this? It falls under the "seven days or less" for passive rental activities. Does that mean Line 21? Or is it still Sch. E? Catherine
  16. Without my dear colleagues who help me so much, I think I'd end up taking up gardening instead. Because I surely couldn't do as good a job with taxes as I require of myself! Happy Birthday all of us, and thank you all!!!
  17. Hmmmm -- great question. Haven't tried it. Will give it a shot and post the results! Catherine
  18. Happy Birthday wonderful forum!! And thank you to Eric for setting it up!! Catherine
  19. KC -- I hope you have an absolutely WONDERFUL birthday -- with many more wonderful birthdays still to come! Thank you so much for all you do for us here; your kindness, vast knowledge, and wisdom are so very much appreciated! Catherine
  20. An interesting and appropriate essay for this weekend: http://cruciality.wordpress.com/2008/05/21...last-judgement/ I was fortunate enough to have been introduced to the works of Fr. Capon years ago. His "The Supper of the Lamb" is a book on cooking, theology, life, the universe, and everything. I recommend it to _everyone_. I'm just starting to investigate his theology books now, almost three decades later. Catherine
  21. Once we get past the 15th we can take another look at it if you'd like 9and if ATX tech support doesn't solve the issue for you). Good luck! Catherine
  22. Hi all -- Whenever I have any questions as I'm doing a return, I mark the item as estimated. That way, when I do my error checks, it lists any that I've forgotten. Twice today I noted a new twist: a couple of clients had interest income and dividend income entries for last year that were missing this year. So I put $1 in the fields noted those amounts as estimates while I was getting info from the clients as to whether those accounts were closed or information was missing. Got word back that accounts had indeed been closed, so I could delete those items. When I deleted ONE item, ALL items in the detail and input screens that had been marked as estimates were no longer marked as such. Not good!! It makes me wonder if there are other instances of items that were estimates that escaped my review because the tags were gone. So be warned -- your estimates might not be tagged as such if you have deleted any other items. Catherine
  23. If it's a "regular" grantor-type trust (like "John Smith Revocable Trust, John Smith TTee") that is disregarded for Federal purposes, ignore it and just file the Mass Form 1. Every year ATX has a major problem with Mass returns. The stuff that is supposed to flow does NOT. And they have never found the problem when I went to them, so I stopped bothering and just override. If you over-ride on the worksheets the info will then flow to the forms and you can still e-file. But this is a big issue with them, and a recurring one. No solution has been presented to me except for overrides. Sasha -- let 'em know!! Catherine
