  1. I am pondering a new computer purchase, and was told to go to Windows 7. After searching the net amd going from web site to another all I can find is computers with Windows 7 64 bit. I was told back when Vista came out that the tax packages would not run properly on 64 bit. Has anyone on this board tried a 64 bit machine? If you have could you please inform me as how the program runs on it. Thank you
  2. It is not needed due to no taxable income, but what to do. The program puts the $3000 on the 1040. Should I override it with a -0- and override the schedule D.
  3. I have a client who for the year 2009 has a capital loss carryover, and only income of $11,050.00 which he will have no tax on. Do you still have to show the $3,000.00 loss on line 13 and reduce his carryover for 2010? Thank you
  4. I know their website was down yesterday, I spoke to support and that was OK.
  5. What is the company name and website?
  6. One way to avoid that from happening, is to print the invoice out, and then delete it before you make the e-file record. A few years back they had a survey asking for amounts billed, and I don't believe anyone gave it to them.
  7. I had a client call me today and said he purchase a mobile home. He was told by the RE broker that he would be entitled to a 10% credit on his taxes for last year. Is there such a credit? He is not a first time home buyer, and it was purchased before Nov 2009. TIA for any help. PS How do I do a search on this board for this topic. I tried 'home buyer credit' and got a vast array of posts for any that had home, credit and buyer in it. How can I do a better search?

    TaxWise

I called last week and was told it was to ship on Friday Dec 11
  9. Since you only do 50 returns or so and e-file is not a major concern, you might take a look at TaxAct.
  10. Are there any credits for new energy efficent boiler for 2009?

    PHONEBOT

Has anyone had any experience with a program called PhoneBot. It is a computer answering machine for your telephone. It is quite an extensive program which if it works as they say it will be a great help to me. All comments will be appreciated. Thank you
  12. He would have to report it as a bsiness on Sch C
  13. New client, has net income on sch C of 150K, owns 6 rental properties, showing a net loss for 2008 of 26K. Due to high income cannot take rental losses this year. I have thought of putting him as a real estate business , but this means any future profits will result in self employment taxes. And was wondering if IRS would go back to prior years and claim him as being in the re business and require amended returns using sch C in place of Sch E’s. My question is, is there any advantage of putting the rentals into a S corp? Right now he has no protection from a LLC or S corp. Any comments will be appreciated. Thank you
  14. What I do on the multiple states is to link the taxable and tax fields to the resident state form that requires them. This has worked fine for me.
  15. I have a couple of questions in regards to TRX now selling ATX. First is that if we all switch to TRX, will CCH keep up with jATX if they are not selling at a profitable price like they are doing now? Or will CCH abandon ATX? Right now ATX is an excellent program and still have a few features missing which I can see them coming up with in the next year or so. Will they keep improving the program if they are not making money on it? Next question, is Mel in Hawaii still programing a new tax package, or will TRX make Mel stop.
  16. I also have a small practice, about 80 returns, I purchased a Brother DCP7020 laser printer before last tax season and it has been an excellent scanner and copier. I don't use it for printing, I use a HP laser jet 1320. Only paid around $150 for the Brother. It came with PaperPort document manager. I had a HP scanner prior to te Brother and it dinent even last 1 tax season.
  17. I HAVE A CLIENT THAT A WRONG ADDRESS WENT ON THE RETURN AND SHE IS WAITING FOR A CHECK. IS THERE ANY TELEPHONE NUMBER I CAN CALL TO CORRECT THIS, OR A FAX NUMBER WHERE I CAN SEND A FORM 8822. THANK YOU
  18. LIKES AND DISLIKES ABOUT TAXWISE I like the Acks, have yet to have a problem with them, and there is a record in the client record stating date accepted and other things. I like the way it lets you know if anything is missing on the form by way of a red ! or a blue check mark if all is OK. There is a way to get to any field which is needed by pressing CTRL-E I like the double checking of bank account numbers, you have to enter them twice if they do not match you get an error message. I like the speed in starting up the program, and opening a return, and printing a return. I don't like the client manager, you cannot show only what you want to see. I like the way it handles multiple states. I don't like the way you have to go from one form to another, when you go back you are positioned at the top of the form instead of where you left off. What I mean is there is no BACK button or no bunny hop. I also miss the linking feature in ATX it was great in multiple states and in Corp returns. I like the way it updates the program, when you get acks if there are any updates it retrieves them. And they have forms a lot earlier than ATX. The only form I had to wait for is a 1040V from Rhode Island. Another thing is on the TRX website all earlier years of TaxWise are available along with activation keys. So if you have previous years to do you can download the programs and get them done. I LIKE THE 'WHAT IF' MODE, IT LETS YOU SEE A DIFFERENT SENEIRO. AND YOU CAN SAVE IT FOR FUTURE USE IF YOU AREA NOT DONE WITH THE RETURN. For $299.00 I received the full TaxWise program with unlimited e-file both individual and business, with all states. I admit it took getting used to but I think it was worth it and I am going with it again next year. I was told by TRX to make suggestions and if they think it is a good one they have a lot of clout with TaxWise and will try to get the changes.
  19. i HAVE ONE THAT IS A POLL WORKER AND IT IS TAXABLE ON A SCHEDULE C
  20. Client has a net capital loss of $1300.00, only income is $2000.00 on W2 and $1800.00 SS income. To report the sales of stock Schedule D has to be files. The Schedule D flows through to the 1040. But he can't use it due to not enough income. I have looked and cannot find where he can keep this loss for future years. Can someone tell me where I can find out if he can use this in future years or not. Thank you
  21. A man owned a small farm in North Carolina. The North Carolina Wage & Hours Department claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him. "I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them", demanded the Agent. "Well," replied the farmer, "there's my farm hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $400.00 a week plus free room and board. The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $300.00 per week plus free room and board. There's the half-wit. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10.00 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of Bourbon every Saturday night. He also sleeps with my wife occasionally." "That's the guy I want to talk to.....the half-wit", says the Agent. "That would be me", replied the farmer!
  22. I have a client coming in tomorrow, who is a day trader. I have never done one before, how do I send the brokerage house forms to the IRS. Thank you
  23. I have tried to e-file a CA return and got the following rejection 0686] - The Taxpayer on this return is ineligible to participate in the Self-Select PIN program. Our records indicate the taxpayer did not file a prior year individual income tax return and does not have a shared secret (Prior Year California Adjusted Gross Income). They may still e-file by signing a California e-file Return Authorization Form (FTB 8453-OL). (CA) [0670] - When the PIN Type Code is equal to "S", the following fields must be present: Taxpayer Prior Year Adjusted Gross Income, Taxpayer Signature (PIN), Taxpayer Signature Date, Jurat/Disclosure Code, PIN Authorization Code, and ERO EFIN/PIN. Exception: When the filing status is married filing jointly, the taxpayer date of death field is significant, and the spouse/RDP date of death field is not significant on the tax return, only the following fields are required on the Authentication Record: Spouse Prior Year AGI, Spouse Signature (PIN), Taxpayer Signature Date, Jurat/Disclosure Code, PIN Authorization Code, and ERO EFIN/PIN. (CA) This is my first CA return, I had the CA 8453 completed in the return Any help will be appreciated Thank you
  24. I have been using WinFax for years. Its a one time charge (purchased the disc for only $13). You can fax from a scanner or from your computer. And it saves a copy in your computer.
