  1. Mike I have not converted yet but mine will be from TaxWise, regarding the multiple states, no conversion I have ever see will convert more than one state. I did convert the 2008 from taxwise to see what will happen and all my depreciation was correct.
  2. May I ask exactly what you do with Outlook with the other programs mentioned?
  3. Has anyone trie NetTalk telephone line? It can be connected via the router and does not need the computer on. And a one time charge of $69.95 for as long as the unit works. This is wahat worries me, how long will it last. I have tried to go online and get information on it but no one sees to have had one fail yet. I have tried MajicJack, and did not renew it because I could not get a local telephone number and had to have it connected to the computer 24/7. The voice quality was very good. And it worked fine. The only other problem was that they do not notify you when your 1 year is up to renew.
  4. Thank you very much I just ran 2005 and imported the return, opened it and saved it, then closed it and closed the program. Went into 2006 rollover and presto it was there.
  5. I have uncounted the strangest things with ATX and windows 7 64 bit I have loaded 2002 through 2008 ATX programs on my new windows 7 64 bit computer. 1st of all 2004 could not recognize 2003 return that was saved, I don't exactly know what I did to correct it but after going into properties for the 2004 program icon, and checking some boxes it finally recognized it and I was able to use it. Now I am in 2005 and completed a return, saved the return and exported the return. When I go back into the 2005 program the return will now show. I tried to import the return and opened the return and saved it again. Closed the program and reopened it and the return still will not show. Has anyone encountered this and have a fix for me, because when I try to go into 2006 and carry forwart the information for this return it can't find it. I am not a current user of ATX so my quess support will not help me. I called them the other day and all I got from a woman there was that ATX programs are not compatible with windows 4 64 bit. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    ATX 2008

I have a problem, I have been using TaxWise for the years 2008 and 2009, I purchased a new computer which has Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I tried to load TaxWise 08 and 09 on it. 2009 loaded fine and operates, 2008 will not load and I have been told it will not operate on it. I received a call from a new client who needs 5 years returns done. I have ATX 1040 for 2005, 2006 and 2007 all have loaded on my computer fine. I have a CD which has 2008 ATX which was sent to me by ATX for reasons unknown with no packing slip and no code to use the porgram. I have just called ATX and was told by a young lady that 2008 will not operate on this operating system, and she cannot give me an access code because I did not purchase the software. Being a TaxWise customer means nothing to them. Is there anyone on this board who will allow me to use their access code to be able to prepare a return using ATX 1040 for 2008. I remember back when I was an ATX user we were able to make copies of our discs an give them to others along with the access codes. My e-mail is [email protected] if anyone can be so kind and allow me the use of their code. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day/
  7. The best thing about PeachTree is you never have to upgrade. And if you do all prior year companies (data bases) will be compatible.
  8. I make sure they do not do any entries until I bring the data back. They have no need to upgrade to a newer version. The file I return to them is for the new year so they can start posting when I give it to them. I also give them a copy of the old one so they can get reports if they need them. All you have to do is change the name of the company by adding the year to it and you can use ii for reports. When I give it back it has the new payroll tables in it if they have a payroll.
  9. I will be using it, and have done a few returns. I love the way it does multiple states, I did one with 5 states and all the non resident ones carried forward to get the credit on the resident return automatically. I will like it better for 2010 when you can enter on the forms as they said it will do. I have not yet tried the printing. But I know it has to be faster than ATX. I used the 2008 program to bring the clients forward and all seemed to work fine.
  10. I used Peachtree for years. It was easy to teach a client to use. It was very easy to change postings that the client misposted. It was easy to set up the payroll taxes, meaning you never had to purchase a new one every year. What I would do it when the client posted everything for the year I would tke a copy of the company file and view it on my computer and make the necessary changes and do all the adjusting entries and then close the year and give it back to the client for the new year. I used the same version for 8 years. It still works fine today, it is the Peachtree 2002 version. It also came with a Fixed Asset program built in. If you do monthly statements it will do automatic monthly entries for depreciation and other things.
  11. I have been having problems with TRX PRO when doing a return wirh 5 states. The resident state is CT, and the problem has been with the credits for tax paid to other states. Has anyone had this problem. Also in the last 4 days I have had to reinstall the program 3 times, due to different things. One was that when I started the program none of the buttons to go to different things like State, Audit etc. would work. Another was that it was showing 2 resident states, and only showing 3 of the 5 states in the client management. I have successfully updated from Tax Wise all of the clients form 2008, and brought them into the 2009 package. I have 3 days left to sign up and would like to know if there are any other things I should look for.
  12. I have been using TaxWise from TRX for the past 2 years, and purchased a new computer. It has Windows 7 - 64 bit, and TaxWise for 2008 will not load. Hofw can I get copies of ATX for 2008 and 2009 to load on my new computer? If I remember correctly ATX allowed users to make back copies and give them out to other users, is this still OK?

    ATX renewal

They could never combine the 2 programs, one is an Excel spreadsheet program and the other a menu driven program.
  14. I originally had PaperPort 9 which came with my Brother printer, and liked the way it ran and was able to keep my files in good order. So I decided to upgrade to PaperPort 12, and I don't like it at all. It comes with a PDF reader, that I can't do what I used to do with the original PaperPort. First of all it is the slowest loading programs I have ever come across. I like to open a file and copy info from the file but it is very touchy, 9 out of 10 files it will not copy text. The original PaperPort when you stack or unstacke files it did not keep copies, in version 12 if you stack a few files it creats a new file and keeps the old ones, which I think is awfukl. Does anyone use a program simular to PaperPort, which works bettert?

    ATX renewal

In my opinon, I think that ATX should give all of you the 40% discount. you should all get together and demand it from them. :dunno:
  16. Defective McAfee update causes worldwide meltdown of XP PCs Oops, they did it again. Early this morning, McAfee released an update to its antivirus definitions that mistakenly deleted a crucial Windows XP file, sending systems into a reboot loop and requiring tedious manual repairs. It's not the first strike for the company, either. I've got details. by Ed Bott
  17. I have a new client she came to me and gave me all her paperwork. Two days later I was informed she was married and will file jointly. I have already entered all her information in, my question is does it matter if her name comes first on the tax return and her husbands name second? My problem is I use TaxWise and can't change the SS No. I will have to delete the return and start all over if the husband has to come first. TIA
  18. Subject: Compelling Reading (Non-Partisan) This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be - read it!! The article below is completely neutral, ...not anti republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinal has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgements made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering! 545 vs. 300,000,000 EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE. Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years. 545 PEOPLE--By Charlie Reese Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.. Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does. 100 senators, 435 congressmen, 1 president, and 9 Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million who are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes. Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits..... The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .. If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power.. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees... We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess! Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper. What you do with this article now that you have read it......... Is up to you. This might be funny if it weren't so darned true. Be sure to read all the way to the end: Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table, At which he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule. Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts Anyway! Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his ass. Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore. Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid... Put these words Upon his tomb, Taxes drove me to my doom...' When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax.. Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians?' I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times!!! YOU can help it get there!!! GO AHEAD - - - BE AN AMERICAN!!!
  19. I have a client who had a short sale of personal residence, with a loss. i understand they do not have to pay taxes on the loss, bit I can't seem to visualize how to report it on the 1040. If I use Schedule D, do I just over ride the loss, or should I just let them paper file with no Schedule D and attach the 1099-C and 1099-S to show the sale. Thank you for any input.
  20. I have done the following states and never had to register in any of them: MA, NY GA, PA, HI, CA, VA, ME, AZ, NH AND RI The only state that I have heard of in which you do over 10 is NY.
  21. No non resident return needed. I have lived in Ma and went to casinos in CT and Nj and only filed MA returns
  22. I have downloaded the demo, and it runs on my new Windows 7 64 bit computer.
  23. I have been with TRX for 2 years now, using TaxWise. I didn’t want to switch from ATX but when you don’t do that many returns and the price kept going up I had no alternative. I got used to TaxWise and found it does all that ATX does and have found all the forms I needed. As for ATX, I can see that CCH is dropping one function at a time and making extra programs out th them, such as Asset manager. What function will be next? As I see it if the majority of users that were skeptical last year when TRX was selling ATX and didn’t call ATX and bug TRX maybe all of you would have had ATX at a reduced price. I liked ATX and used it for many years, but as Catherine said about the print function, as I see it, it will always be a slow process because it is a spreadsheet based program and there is no other way around it. Using TaxWise I enjoyed having the forms printing very fast. TRX has lost the right to resell TaxWise this year, I guess CCCH figures it can keep all of TRX’s customers who were using it, but as for me I can’t see going back to paying $1,000 for a program when I can get one of $300. I have looked ot TRX’s program except for the fact that it is not forms entry it is pertly good, and they informed me that they will have a forms entry feature for 2010.
  24. I have a client who is 39 years of age, spouse 41, and was rejected for the following. Error code: 1132 Schedule M - Economic Recovery Payments Received (SEQ 0170) does not match IRS records. An economic recovery payment may have been received if social security benefits, supplemental security income, railroad retirement benefits, or veterans disability compensation or pension benefits were received. This client does not receive payments from social security or any government agency. I was thinking of checking the yes box and not pouting any amount received. Any ideas on how to get it through. Thank you
