  1. What JPDF program are you using? If you have been using ATX for a few years there is a program called PDF factory, this usualy works better than the current one.
  2. I got one also, and can't figure out why. If anyone wants mine I too will ship it to them.
  3. The problem with early renewals is that if they pull the sh--- they pulled this year you are stuck with them. But looking at the posts on this board I don't thing anyone will be doing early renewals. And if you have been reading the board you will be aware of the new tax package to replace ATX, which again will be run by people who care about people. I just wish that there will be more members of this board by end of this tax season. Happy tax season everybody.
  4. I'm getting the feeling that Mel better have a program in place for next year, after this season with CCH they wont be able to sell anyone the ATX package. I am just hoping that I don't have any problems, in past years they have been very few for me.
  5. I am looking for True Document Management, not just a simple replacement for my file cabinet. If all a document manager does is replace the file cabinet, and not add the features that a computer would provide, what is the point? Try going to http://downloads.zdnet.com/ under the download section and search for document managers. They have a good selection .
  6. I use paper port which came with my scanner, and have it set up as a client base. A folder for each client sorted by last name, sub folders for each year. I also keep other files with a directory name that I will understand what is in them. Suck as Personal, Paid bills, product manuals, etc. If your scanner scans in on other programs ATX is wrong you don't need a new scanner just a better program. You say you transfer everything to OCR instead of PDF, what program do you use. I have tried in the past and got a lot of garbage. Also the scan and fill to me is slower, and only good if you expect to do at least 50 new returns this year. And don't forget it will not work on next years program.
  7. I would forward it to the correct jperson. Add a note that it was mailed to you in error. OR if there is an IRS office nearby take it there and tell them about it.
  8. Unless they have changed the law in the past 2 years, it is non taxable. It is probably the last thing that is not taxable.
  9. Mel Please add me to the list. I cannot afford to invest but I am willing to do anything at all to help, but probably only qualified to beta test or help. I am not connected with ATX or CCH in any way except as a software user since 1996. I too am very disappointed at the direction ATX (CCH) is headed. Prices going up, services going down (no free e-file this year) and no forum; all with no warning from ATX (CCH). I am a sole proprietor since 1970 and I only do about 100 returns per year. I am semi-retired now with taxes being my only official employment, so I have plenty of time to help in any way I can. When my tax software costs get to $800, I'll be going out of business. Please include me in your 'private' forum or if you need one. PS: I took a pool to see if preparers used the 1040A and 1040EZ, and haven't found any one yet. In my estimation these 2 forms may be left out and it will reduce the amount of programing.
  10. So with all these preparers and I suppose all the ones that did not answer, if a new program will be made up leave out the 1040A and the 1040EZ and do a lot less programing.
  11. I have been doing taxes for quite a few years, and since I have used computers I have found no reason to use 1040A and 1040EZ. I have always found it easier to just use the 1040. To me it was just easier to fill in a 1040 from the forms view of ATX and took less time trying to remember 3 different forms. Does anyone still use the 1040A? How about the 1040EZ? Maybe this will affect the way any new programs are made. It will be less forms to worry about.
  12. Last year ATX had online support chat. I used it quite a few times and got through within 5 min. But I guess not too many people used it so it went by the wayside.
  13. I have noticed that the backups done by ATX take up a lot of space on the hard drive. As of now I have only 5 returns in the return manager and there is already 21 files in the backup directory, and in the database foldera there are 10. I never noticed thin in prior years, but by the end of tax season there will be thundreds of files. does anyone know if these files are necessary or can we delete some of them?
  14. Does anyone know if TaxWise has a board? Or are there any other boards besides this one and Tax almanac? Maybe we can find out if TaxWise customers are having the same problem.

    Scan & Fill

I don't have it, way toooooo expensive for me. I tried the demo and had the same problem you had and teck support got me out of it. It is a good program if you have 400 to 500 returns and want to get them done faster. But is it really faster?
  16. I have been trying to get a picture to show when I create a new topic or reply to a topic. I have tries several pics, and none will show up. The size is well within their parameters.

    Scan & Fill

It's there you just have to point the program to it. Look in the ATX2007 directory, and look for scan fill the file should be in there. :D
  18. :o Three Things to Ponder: 1. Cows 2. The Constitution 3. The Ten Commandments C O W S Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow. T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore. T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery," and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.
  19. This is not ATX's doings, I used TaxWise once and this was set up in Taxwise so not CCH is taking advantage of it it ATX. :(
  20. From Bloomberg News, but not on IRS site. "Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- The Internal Revenue Service said it may try to prevent tax preparers such as Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. and H&R Block Inc. from offering customers refund loans and audit insurance because they can encourage fraud. The plan, if adopted by the IRS, would restrict tax preparers from passing along tax return information to lenders who provide instant refunds and then charge customers predatory interest to repay the loans. Consumer groups and taxpayer advocates have urged the government to crack down on such practices. " Reply With Quote jReply to above for many years. Not likely to happen, too much money in campaign coffers of Congress from financial institutions to expect such a ban on loans. And, it is an incentive for many low income people to actually file a return, which they would avoid if they weren't getting a bunch of money back in time to pay Feb. rent. Reply With Quote "H&R Block Comment On Proposed RAL Restrictions Thursday January 3, 4:33 pm ET KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--We look forward to working with the IRS on continuing to develop best practices for refund anticipation loans, just as we did over the past two years on the privacy rules announced today, which reflect many of H&R Block’s existing guidelines. H&R Block’s tax professionals are not compensated on the sale of ancillary products, so there is no incentive for them other than serving taxpayers’ best interests. In addition, RALs are currently regulated by 10 federal laws and IRS rules. The typical RAL at H&R Block costs about 2 percent of the principal, or less than the cost of a credit card advance, bank overdraft, or in many cases, using an ATM."

    Ouch

Did you cut a straight line in your pants siting on the scissors?
  22. The problem with the 1040 not bringing forward the name and SS number has beed corrected as of now. I just downloaded and the fix was there. :P
  23. Regarding the machine to process credit cards, I worked for a cowpony who used Peachtree and we were able to process credit cards through Peachtree. Don't know if any other accounting package allows this, but its worth looking into if you have to buy a machine.
