  3. The next time someone questions my fee (or today someone asked me how far I would push in filing a return) I'm going to show them the picture of me getting on the plane and getting off the plane and tell them not to mess with me! My kids now think I'm badass, so it was worth it.

  5. Don't you think ATX could have gained some trust back by giving the promotional rate to all previous users automatically instead of them having to find out from other sources and asking for it. I call that trickery!

  6. This is why Amazon Prime is totally worth it. I avoid people whenever possible.

  7. When I renewed with ATX I was originally quoted the full price, but when I mentioned that I heard they were offering a discount because of last years mess, my rep said oh, you want the promotional rate of 995.00 with the defered payment option, I said I sure do, and that was all there was to it.

  8. That's a good tip about the head covering. I did notice the 'wind in your hair' look and also that many others were wearing caps. Now I know why. Yes, tandem is the only way to go for me! Skydiving goes much faster than descending in diving and, in diving, you can always just stop where you are and, in fact, go back then or at the end of the dive. With skydiving, one is committed once leaving that plane so I want to be very closely attached to a pro! Yeah, play the video, put on your website, have a nice framed photo in mid-air. "Don't mess with me - I have guts!" Well, maybe something more gentle to go with your true nature.

  9. In most homes nothing much happened for the next several days as entire families were glued to the TV and, as Jeanne said, mealtimes came and went. It was pretty much nonstop TV from the 22nd through the shooting of Osswald, through the lying in state and the funeral. I honestly think that anyone who lived through it and remembers it; has never felt the same. Regardless of political affiliation.

  10. I asked my mom and she can't recall what I was doing that day, but she recalls what I was doing on JFK's inauguration day.....she was giving birth to me!!! 1/20/1961.

  11. At that time, I was working for the State Comptroller in the Dallas regional office. On the day of Kennedy's assassination I had gone to Austin to visit a friend. My friend was in the process of having a new house built and we went to see the builder. When we got there, the builder was crying and told us Kennedy had been assassinated.

  12. Just under 3 years old, but that day is my earliest memory. The TV, my sibs trickling home from school and dropping to the floor in front of the TV, no one moving, no one getting up to turn on lights as it got dark. Too young to appreciate the horror of what had happened, of course, but I remember how stunning it was to me that no one was moving or talking or turning on lights, that dinner time came and went and no one cared.

  14. It does create a trust issue. Does it make you wonder if maybe they gave a better deal to others, under the condition that they not post it online?

  15. I was in class (high school sophomore). CS Lewis died on that same day in England, but it was hardly mentioned in the news anywhere.

  17. I wasn't here yet, either. But I have a friend who was born on that day. Is that news worthy? Old farts?

  18. sucks that buying a tax program is now like buying a car - you have to negotiate and hope you get a good salesperson willing to work with you. At least with a car you can just walk and go to a different dealer. when I was deciding what to do for 2012 I priced lacerate with 2 different sales people and the prices were about $1000 apart.

  20. I'd put this one on the back burner because they may or may not be divorced by 12-31-13. At the moment, you can't file a return for 2013 for her anyway. Once the year has ended and the couple's marital status is determined, it will be a lot easier to make a decision as to your involvement (or lack thereof) with their tax preparation. Take care, Cathy

  21. I agree with you. It is sad. For years, ATX had a good product and reputation. The problem with many of us, is that we too have to serve many clients. If we drop the ball and mess up, we lose the client. Rarely do we get a do-over. Many of us will pay our clients penalty if the fault is ours. I asked for a refund last year and was told that the refund policy was based on some formula, that as it turned out, meant that our refund was zero. Nada. Nothing. So, that was then, this is now. Everything is fixed, great, wonderful. So why are we not enthusiastic?

  22. The secret is the instructor does all the heavy lifting and I was just along for the ride! I could see from Springfield, MA, to Long Island Sound. We flew over to greet my daughter in the air. Didn't see my son until we landed. If you jump, wear a stocking cap or ear plugs as the wind is whistling by at 115 miles/hour and cold at two miles up. And, I'm scared of heights too after being on a collapsing balcony, but I still love roller coasters. Skydiving was less scary than a roller coaster. I like the idea of playing the video for my clients.

  24. This has been my policy for all 7 major holidays for the past 30 years. We do not do ANY business on the Holidays for the reason mentioned in the picture. It would need to be life or death situation for us to do any business. On the other hand, I have been in line at 3:00AM on Friday after Thanksgiving to get some great electronics and technology deals.

  25. What have we become as a society? Now shopping takes priority over spending a holiday with family? Did you see Walmart cancelled all employee vacations for that day. No excuses. I have never shopped on Thanksgiving or Christmas at a retail store.
