  1. I only went with 8 because I was getting new computers and I was on XP. I don't think I've ever updated an OS on an existing computer. Strongly in the 'ain't broke, don't fix it' club.

  2. I use only specific organizer pages for the handful of clients that actually use them for their Schedule C or E. It helps to remind them what certain expenses were for the previous year because we know they can/will not look at that return themselves, amiright? I do include the checklist to everyone more as a reminder of what documents are needed and raise questions. I really appreciate the enhanced checklist from Abby. I will possibly incorporate one or more of those next year. The one addition I always have to make under Other is Did you make any internet, mail order, or out of state purchases on which you did not pay sales tax? If yes, what is the total of untaxed purchases made? To efile Ohio one has to answer that question and I won't make up the answer - it has to be on file from the client. Every year I get complaints as to how on earth they would know that and every year I explain, as the year before and the year before that, just how. A handful have finally reconciled themselves and do provide the information early on.

  3. I agree that it would be deductible as interest IF the unlying debt/charges were for deductible business-related purchases or obligations.

  4. A client family moved to Australia 3 years ago and are applying for citizenship later this year. They love it! I may have to do some field research...

  5. And another email this morning; someone got a 1095-A and wanted to know how to get the company to rescind it as she doesn't know what it's for. My husband came home from a trip to deal with stuff from his mom's estate in an ultra-foul mood, and someone in my town is putting a motion to town meeting that needs to be fought and I have a feeling that coordinating the battle is going to get dumped on me. I'm telling you, New Zealand is looking real good right about now. Even with all the earthquakes.

  6. No way would I go with 10. I don't need the headaches. I know all my software and peripherals work with 8.

  7. The organizer questions are sorely lacking and need a major revision. I just put a long post over in the Enhancements forum about this. Attached is what I spent more time on than I really wanted to. I know some of you have your own questionnaire in excel, but that would make an already tedious task, more tedious. ATX needs to work on this. 2015 Organizer Questions.pdf

  8. I would not change existing computers, either. But if getting a new one, best to go with the 10 I think.

  9. I will send out my document checklist (instead of an organizer) and engagement letter as soon as they are ready to go (i.e., printed and collated). I hope by the end of this week. Have already had one phone call and one drop-off for 1099's for clients' vendors. I am SO not ready for this...

  10. Batch adding organizer letters failed, so we have to add the letters manually. Batch printing of organizers fails to print the two letters we added in step 1, so we have to manually print each organizer. ATX has royally screwed this up, this year.

  11. Not using their letters would make the task even more tedious.

  12. I don't use their letters anyway. I have an annual letter that I send and a three page engagement letter that goes to everyone. I haven't printed organizers yet, but will later this week.

  13. Printing them separately turns a two minute task into a 16 hour task. I'd say that's a big deal! And what is this paper and toner you speak of?

  14. Something is wrong when a software vendor can't make their web-based software work in browsers that have the best standards compliance.

  18. Same here on updating OS on an existing computer. I did it once way back going from W95 to W98. I just think there are too many things going on unknown in the background. Not to mention the older hardware being used.

  19. Not ready here either. Several calls today for various reasons. A few appts set up for Feb already. Today, clients wanted Organizers, EOY Sales Tax Reports and Payroll Reports done. I don't even know if the software is ready for that. Have an audit next Thursday and my office is a mess. Will she allow my assistant to be present during the audit process? She can be working quietly in the other half of the office. Anybody know?

  20. This year we won't be dancing until after April 18. Tax season just gets longer and longer.

  22. What I actually meant was that I absolutely love the Surface. However, I have no issues with 8.1 either. I just would not update any of my work computers from Win 7 Pro.
