  1. Young Frankenstein is my one of my favorite movies. I think of this scene often whenever I say "Could be worse."

  3. One of the Greats. Remember his line as Leo Bloom in The Producers...."They always blame the accountant." And, "I'm just a small man, I count other people's money because I'm smarter than them...I want, I want."

  4. We've installed solid state drives in all of our computers, recently, and today we installed a new gigabit router and a gigabit business class switch. Already opening ATX client list on a workstation is faster, and, of course, the SSDs make the computer faster than they were when they were brand new. Next, we're going to rewire the entire office with latest Ethernet cable. The cable we have now is almost 20 years old and some of the ends are starting to crumble a bit. The 500 GB SSDs were only 145 each, the router was 90 and the switch was 20 after a 10 dollar rebate. The wiring will probably be the biggest expense.

  6. I do, too! That really was one of the *best* movies ever. Right up there with my other favorites, "Real Genius", "Undercover Blues", "Joe versus the Volcano" and "Amazon Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death".

  7. Did you run the personal 2015 tax calculations and 2016 projections related to those various scenarios? Which one works out better? What stands out is that if this is a typical year for the S corp, it has significant ordinary income, distributions of almost that same amount, and relatively low shareholder salary in comparison. Have you considered that the salary may be considered unreasonably low and should possibly be raised? Besides the reasonable comp issue and even though it will mean higher payroll taxes, it would be wise to increase the salary so that earnings reported to social security are higher and increase benefits at retirement. I had a client that refused to do this for many years, and then the year before he was ready to sign up for his benefits he asked me how he could impact those figures. Sorry Charlie, too late now.

  10. They can use any number to show up on your caller ID. One time I received a call that showed that it was coming from my own phone. When I get a robo or telemarketing call I usually save it under the name of "Z" so that it appears at the end of my address book and when I get a call from Z, I just open the phone and close it. Even though a lot of those calls come from different numbers, the Z helps a whole lot.

  13. You may not have to totally rewire. If you have Cat5 or higher, reworking all the terminations and using patch cables will accomplish your quest. To have full Gigabit compatibility, all 8 wires in the Cat5 must be terminated properly. Changing the actual cables will have very little difference in speed. In fact, the difference will just barely be measurable and not noticeable as a user. Did that here at the firm, made sure all lines were passing info at Gigabit speed and noticed a huge difference. I found several places where Cat5 cable was connected in the middle of a long run with wires just twisted and taped. That wire was replaced. However, if I had simply terminated both ends with a jack and used a 1ft patch cord, I could have accomplished the same thing. It was just easier to pull a new wire. (access was easy)

  14. Kodak (name licensed to JK Imaging) SP360. I mount it to windshield using their suction cup mount. Records to SD in 10 min (IIRC) loops. Has a setting to power on and off with the vehicle. Fun little gadget to use for many things. Stuck it on a letter when our daughter was marching in her HS band for a night parade. They twirl the letters... Underwater case is fun to use. Mount it on one of our dogs - to their harness - when we walk, for fun at first, but now for security. Plenty of loose dogs around, and we do have to pepper spray the loose ones from time to time. There are many cameras now marketed for driving. I have seen them at Costco. I like the 360cam since it shows more, including me. On the other hand, not showing me might be better if I mess up, but that is not my concern. If I mess up, I can accept that. I just want to be sure the truth comes out. Same with the cams around the house. I am really not the worrying type, but it is so easy to record things, and is a nice peace of mind.
