  1. As you no doubt have noticed, I've updated the forum rules to include a couple lines about political discussions. Agreeing to the updated terms is necessary to continue participating on the forum. The internet is a big place, and there are endless forums and message boards to discuss politics. If you are interested in having a good argument over these things, please seek those places out. Or just continue to make family and friends uncomfortable with unending rants on Facebook. If you're no longer getting the response you crave on Facebook (perhaps you've finally alienated everyone who disagrees with you), this forum will not be a new audience for you to antagonize. All political posts will be hidden, no exceptions, so do the mods a favor and don't waste your time or theirs. To those who disagree with my assertion that it's possible to separate the discussion of tax law itself from the political ideals/ideologies that surround the implementation of those laws, then this thread is for you. Let's talk about it.

  3. I heard yesterday about this from the Nashville Liaison Officer. The scam surfaces as an e-mail to the practitioner from a plaigerized known e-mail contact. Is it true that the IRS collaborates data from all PTINs and makes their phone number and e-mails available to anyone via a $25 CD? If so, the IRS could help eliminate the scam by ceasing this practice described above.

  5. Even more important, Krispy Kreme will be "selling" a dozen doughnuts for $0.80 tomorrow, July 14, in honor of their 80th anniversary. Not all locations may participate according to the article that I read, so you might want to check before you go, but what a bargain! Two tons of fat and sugar for less than a dollar!

  8. The catch with Krispy Kreme is that you've got to buy a dozen at regular price before you get the dozen for $0.80.

  9. Then how do you manage to pay your IRS taxes due with cash? As far as I know, 7-11 is the only agent.

  10. But if I have to drive 70 miles round trip to get the free slurpee - do I still count that as free? That is as close as the nearest 7-11 is to me.

  11. I spent the Fourth of July in WV with Appalachia Service Project making homes warmer, safer, and drier. It was very ASP appropriate that we watched the fireworks that were in the Walmart parking lot from the Lowe's parking lot, the two places we shopped the most, and probably the two largest employers in Nicholas County.

  12. I would, in most cases, state that the taxpayer is the one that determines what is ordinary and necessary for his business. After all it is his business and his tax return. If the expense is material and questionable the taxpayer should be advised by the preparer and if the taxpayer insist on deductible then preparer should withdraw from the preparation.

  14. We are in the limbo of the IRS saying you can file without self-assessing the penalty but the IRS may assess the penalty for you... BUT they can not enforce collection of the penalty (which is not new).

  15. The law is the law. And until the law is officially changed, we must abide by the law.

  16. "Them" don't tell me how to do my job. Penalties apply. If it's repealed and they back up the truck, everyone will get their money back.
