  1. I don't think I've ever delivered a duplicate return in physical format. They need it for their mortgage application so they want it digital. I like delivering a physical copy when they pay me. It provides them with a physical product in return for their payment which I think is a psychological appeal for many. Even friends who do their taxes on Turbo Tax admit they like to print off a copy.

  2. Only a few of my clients want digital copies. I wish that all of them did, but I may try to push it more because of the incredible waste of paper for the coming years.

  3. I sure don't want paper. I print/scan everything (taxes, bills, orders, receipts, etc.) to PDF and make sure my drive is backed up, both at home and at work. We just threw out all of out filing cabinets at work and reclaimed the file room as a work room.

  4. The year after NY's last revision, CT also revised -- from two pages to five. Totally unneeded. I think I'll push electronic copies to everyone this year. (I still have two 2017 folders that clients haven't picked up that I'll mail before the end of the year.) I have a few clients who use my portal, so maybe they at least will take electronic copies.

  5. Just asking if anyone has much experience with Letter 6042C. It's issued by Integrity & Verification Operations in Ogden, UT to verify information on an entity return. If I read the instructions correctly, the "Declaration" page is only supposed to be submitted if the person responding is NOT affiliated with the entity. Can anyone tell me if I'm correct, or must the "Declaration" page be submitted with all replies? (Neither the letter nor the IRS instructions on-line are clear about this issue).

  6. $30 paid up-front before we'll re-print and mail. Gee, when they go back to look they never call back.... As for multi pages - MA went to four pages last year. Was only two not too long ago. Only the *middle* third has any info. Total tax at the bottom of page 3 info; withheld tax at top of page 4 info. Impossible to compare without flipping pages. Grrr!

  7. Clients lose any paper you give them. I charge $20 for replacement copies of tax returns. That seems to be the tipping point to motivate people to look...

  8. My basic state return went from 2 pages to 5 and was mindbogglingly stupid the way they spread everything out. I simply don't understand how this is superior or eco friendly.

  9. The right registry hacks can really improve the user experience... well, for a computer nerd like me, anyway. Or you can use a tool like Ultimate Windows Tweaker to make the hacks for you. It has an option to backup the registry and create a restore point.

  10. Amen. I don't know enough to dare to tread in there.

  11. If you aren't e-filing, make sure that the "PIN" and "EF" screens aren't included. The client's signature is generated from the "PIN" screen for S corps. For your signature to be printed on the return, exit out of the return and on the main Drake screen, go to the Setup drop-down menu and open the Preparer(s) setup. Open by double clicking on the preparer for yourself that shows the PTIN #, not the ADMIN one. ON the next box that opens, you should see a checkbox on the right side that says "Alternative Electronic Signature". Check the box to print your signature on the forms, and then click on SAVE at top left of that box. This is a global setting, so any returns you print while this is checked will have your signature printed.

  12. I printed a test page. This will be my 37th year in 2019. In my wildest dreams I would never have thought the Service would sqush (this is the Southern form of squash you Yankees !) the Form 1040 on a half full page. Maybe as Abby suggests we can add some snappy add on the bottom.

  13. In my test print 1040 page 1 half page,1040 page 2 half page, schedule 1, 3/4 page, schedule 4 almost 1/2 page, schedule 6, 1/4 page. I was hoping ATX would combine a bunch of this into 1 page. This is assuming that you are not duplexing. It would seem to me the keep pricing up where it needs to be the more pages a client sees the happier he is.

  14. I'm going to see if I can get some advertisers to pay for ads in all of that blank space.

  15. I was going to point that out Abby but Catherine beat me to it. And Taxman are you saying the 1040 is not going to fill a full sheet. Good grief. It sounds kinda naked.

  16. I test printed a return yesterday. Half pages, third pages 6 schedules. What a waste of paper. My cohort said same amount of toner just more paper. Add in QBI worksheets and forms more pages. I agree no new ones this year. Just my 2 cents
