  3. IR-2019-209, December 17, 2019 WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service has launched a new online assistant designed to help employers, especially small businesses, easily determine the right amount of federal income tax to withhold from their workers' pay. Known as the Income Tax Withholding Assistant for Employers, this new spreadsheet-based tool is designed to help employers easily transition to the redesigned withholding system (no longer based on withholding allowances), which goes into effect on Jan. 1. It does this by helping them easily implement new income-tax withholding requests from employees who fill out the completely redesigned 2020 Form W-4, Employee's Withholding Certificate. 8. My understanding is that if they are W2 income, they are eligible wages for 401K purposes. This is dangerous water your client is treading in. They should know the rules for the plan because if they don't, and some employee has a smart lawyer relative, it could get very expensive. If you are preparing their payroll, your E&O might be on the line if/when it comes time for depositions. Tom Modesto, CA

  9. Thanks for the help, everyone. I told them to review their plan document which should explain what is included in the contributions and matching.

  10. Read the plan document. It must specify the definition of "compensation" for each of the specific purposes of employee contribution, the match, and for nondiscrimination testing.

  13. John, you've got to stop using those silver discs for sanding wheels on your electric drill/screwdriver. By the way, where'd you get the adaptor for the big hole in the center (I have not been able to find one). About the deficiency of password protection, start using the PC pronouns for openers; you know: xe, xur, sie, hir - stuff like that. A sane hacker who doesn't speak Chinese-flavored Lithuanian would be expecting your birthday, anniversary, dog's name, etc.
