  1. Yes, time for another gath'ring after tax season and warm weather is here. I thoroughly enjoyed being at Rita's and meeting many of you in 2018. Rita had a great and spacious place, but unfair to expect this from her again when there may be other places we can meet. I have a smaller house, and have 45 unimproved acres about 60 miles from home, but the acreage doesn't have facilities. Depending on location, I'll make an effort to meet.

  2. We might be boring, but we never stop learning If you are using ATX payroll package, you will need to print out the form 1096, along with the 1099s and Copy A at minimal to give to your client. Also when ready to print, make sure on the pull-down menu to select 1099MISC to be able to print everything at once.

  4. Sounds like a consulting fee to the advisor with the employees, advisor employees should of continued to receive pay as a W-2 employee. Advisor with employee just reports it as income and the offset is the wages they paid. MAS

  5. It's been awhile. The license is free. Let me see if I can find an invoice with the pay-per-client fee and get back to you. It used to be inexpensive, such as $3 for verified signatures and $1 without. (Although, CCH charges me more for everything because I'm using ProSystem fx. I've been tempted to buy the cheapest ATX each year, not to use, but to get the lower prices on all the extras, such as web site, portal, etc.!) Just pulled out my November invoice. For a late filer, I paid $5 for Esign, with tax $5.05

  6. Hi @NECPA in NEBRASKA - your sister (and you!) are in my prayers. I bought a Canon imageClass MF269dw as a multi-function machine. It is a B&W duplex laser printer (among other functions) and it is *lightning* fast printing. I've set it as my default printer, it's so fast and the print quality is so good. And it was pretty inexpensive, to boot!

  7. The category is determined by the main form in the return. If you add a 1040, it will be under individual.

  8. I have been messing around with Verifyle and seems to have everything I am looking for. Paying a little extra for the signature feature is not horrible. I would think my clients would have a fairly easy time using it. I have been searching for a simple one stop solution. I am a MAX user so integration options seem to be only iFIRM and I have not heard great things. Thanks for the info on CCH eSign / FileShare. I have used firefox alot, but having more and more requests for e signing...

  9. Pacun, what you write may be true for some or even most people but I have never tried to access IRS through my phone until the agent suggested downloading the IRS2GO which I will now uninstall. And I use Firefox browser for everything online, including on my phone, except to access IRS which, of course, only works well with IE. So no accidental logins there, certainly not 5 times over 4 months. I don't have a clue what actually happened but am confident it had nothing to do with me at all. I'm just grateful that I again now have access. Oh, I don't think IRS allows any passwords to be saved anyway. At least I haven't seen that, just the username.

  10. I didn't lose too many, and I fired all the ones I didn't want. They paid me a lot of money, those PITAs, but it just wasn't enough to keep them. My business will probably disappear in a few years when I'm ready to retire because I do a lot of simple returns. They weren't so simple before last year, but they are now. So, prices went down, average per return went down, volume is still high, many more extensions, and I'm a happier individual. The tax law changes certainly hurt my business. While they helped most clients, they hurt my business. Reductions in withholding caused horrible results in my office. In short, I'll keep my full time assistant employed for the season, I live small, so life is good. And hey, isn't it time for another gathering?

  11. Thinking of you and your sister. What a heavy load you are carrying right now. It brings it all in perspective. Family, people first. Not sure about your printer. I have HP LASERJET PRO M402n. Last year was my first year with the printer. This year is my first year with Windows 10. I hear a steady blipping back and forth on the computer when I walk away for a few minutes and it goes to sleep. After chasing down the culprit and trying to fix it, I finally turned the sound off and it's all good now. That's the extent of my computer knowledge.

  12. I use CCH's FileShare that's included with my CCH SiteBuilder web site. NAEA and other professional organizations offer Verifyle included with membership. See what your tax software or web site or email or telephone provider might offer.

  13. I would want to see the return prepared in the year of sale and subsequent years. Then, if it was not properly reported in previous years insist on amending before moving forward.

  14. For a land contract to be initiated, there must have been an amortization schedule made out, showing interest, principal, and an itemized print out showing the whole loan. It is NOT your responsibility to keep up with that information. Use whatever basis information you can get. Let him pay the taxes. I am already growing weary of babysitting grown, (supposedly intelligent) adults with things like this. (Rant Over)
