  3. I had to schedule a payroll tax deposit today due to the termination of an employee by a client ( Semi Weekly Depositor ). EFTPS now requires your password to be 12 characters or longer so if your old password was shorter you or your client will be forced to change.

  4. I've seen them demand - and have mailed to them with the letter requesting it - Form 1310 FOUR times before they finally get off their fat duffs and ACT on it. It's as if the entire agency has a grudge against Form 1310 and orders from On High to stall, delay, obfuscate, pretend it wasn't received, and re-demand it. Not new; I've watched this recurring debacle for twenty-five years at least. It's one of my biggest complaints about the Service.

  5. "Between Nov 27, 2023, and Jan 19, 2024, tax pros may be randomly selected to participate in a voluntary phone survey. This is not a scam. Please don’t hang up. Responses will help the IRS improve services to the tax pro community and the taxpayers they serve. The survey will be conducted by ICF, an independent research firm hired by the IRS. It will take about 20 minutes to complete, and covers topics including e-filing, due diligence requirements, data security, and electronic document submission. All responses are anonymous and confidential. Tax pros will not be asked to provide any personal info about themselves or their clients If tax pros are contacted, it will be Monday through Friday between 8:30AM - 6:30PM local time and they’ll see a Kansas City (816) area code on their caller ID." Hopefully this result in some useful changes.

  6. I only respond to surveys when I know my response is going to affect outcomes or future actions. You know, things like political surveys, Medicare Supplement signups, car warranty advisories, bank customer service follow-ups. All those things that really have an impact…

  7. Since they're not on my known caller list, they will reach my voice email. They're free to speak to it as long as they wish.

  8. I agree, I am comfortable with 5 minutes, 10 minutes max.

  9. 20 minutes is just too long for a survey.

  13. I suspect the password, post other login, is to protect the data at rest. That is the most important, as that is where it is more likely compromised (compared to someone gaining live access). It makes perfect sense to require new/reset passwords to meet whatever "new" formula they desire, rather than make all change at once. Sort of like we have to still support the pre Trump W4 (with allowances) and the post Trump W4 (with implied allowances). I actually deal with this almost daily as for me, any change to any of the W4 data means we require a current W4. No "playing" with it so see the results, verbal requests for a different setting, etc. (The current admin may be the first in decades not to monkey with withholding, because the prior admin cut below zero, leaving nothing left to play with. Meaning it is not a red/blue issue, both sides have done it.)

  15. I have a new favorite emoji. I found it on my phone but I don't see it here. It is an angry face like JohnH posted, but it explodes into about 20 little heads. I wish I knew how to get it from my phone to here. Best emoji ever. Tom Longview, TX

  16. Too bad they don't let us use emojis in the password. I think I'd use (unless the various hand emojis were permitted).

  18. I’ve been using ID.me with no problems. The only hitch is that you have to scroll down to click a “Continue” button which appears off the bottom of the screen after selecting a rather large box for text or email. (It defaults to text). I dont think they used the available real estate very efficiently. Have probably used it a dozen times since this MFA business began.

  19. IRS has an audit technique guide on legal settlements. My reading of that guide leads me to conclude that settlements due to death are generally not taxable. if the settlement earns interest of course that will be taxable. I always read a copy of the settlement document.

  20. "The party that pays a taxable settlement or judgment to the injured party and/or their attorney will issue a Form 1099-MISC, Form 1099-NEC, or W-2 to report the settlement. In some cases, the claimant and attorney are issued separate 1099s reporting the same settlement dollars.Jun 15, 2023"

  21. I did the same thing this morning, took me nearly 2 hours to print, punch, and prepare a hard copy notebook. I will also be attending Auburn's seminar in Pelham, AL in December. I see people with notebook computers that don't have to print, but the batteries don't last and there are not enough power outlets. The Auburn school is the ages-old "Farm Seminar" developed by U of Illinois decades ago. The material is still well-written, plenty of demonstrative examples which speak to us in plain straightforward language, not some stilted ethereal cumbersome phraseology.

  22. I am currently using BiBERK. E&O plus Cyber is about $450. Online application is pretty simple. Not very good customer service. Hard to get in touch with. I needed something when I moved to Texas and I grabbed them in a pinch. I am looking to change. Not because of price, but because of service. Tom Longview, TX

  23. I have had them ask for a 1310 even on a surviving spouse. Wonder what happened?

  24. I had the same problem as Catherine. Not heard anything. You would think filing as a surviving spouse they would process on. But NO
