  2. I knew I could depend on everyone's support. This job started as a strip the wallpaper and paint, she said it would only take 2 days like they said on the show. Not my bathroom...so I come to find that the walk in shower water control was loose. Needed to open a wall to get in there and brace everything. Then she thought an efficient water flow toilet would be nice. That medicine chest you see should be recessed, I'll be fixing that. New fixtures on the vanity may as well be done as my new knee pads are getting broken in. It's like a new client who says, I don't have much, won't take long at all, not long at all. It'll be a week for this one, but at least I could say, she's appreciative, and that's a lot more than you get from many clients. Thank you all, you made me smile, makes me forget the back pain.

  3. I just happened to think. An out house with a picture window might be a novel idea.

  4. I did that. Replaced one. Took me three whole days. It was done correctly, beautifully and only 2 nails showing in the aluminum wrap. It was the first and the last I will ever do. Hired the next 2 (much larger and more difficult) done by a professional. They arrived at 8:00 and were totally finished and completely cleaned up by lunch time. My time is better spent doing other things.

  5. Looks like I'm going to be replacing windows in out house. I ordered one to see if I can do it and if it goes well, I'll do the rest. I have never replaced a window before. Google sure does make it look easy.

  6. Yeah Margaret I did mean ouR house. Sometimes my fingers work faster than my mind which is getting slower and slower. Since you mention it, this house did have an out house when it was first built in 1939. Electricity nor water was available at the time. My grandfather built the house and used windows and doors from another house that was torn down at the time. I have no idea how old the windows are. I replaced the doors several years ago.

  7. Yes, sometimes, nearly always, leave such things to professionals. Uh, Gene, you did mean ouR house, not ouT house, right? Or not

  8. If you want a notice, ignore the 1099-Q. id enter it on line 21 and back it out with a notation, funds used for education expenses Dependent X. ive been saying this since 529 plans came out, but there's a reason for the checkbox and that the plan has a beneficiary. But no one ever ever takes out the funds in the beneficiaries name. Ever.

  10. The American Institute of CPAs has filed suit to block a new voluntary tax preparer program being rolled out by the Internal Revenue Service. The AICPA called the new program "an end-run" around a court ruling that struck down the IRS' attempt to regulate preparers last year. 12. I want to join the 21st century and be like the cool kids, so I aim to just get used to the new look and functions. I found "sticky notes" and loving those. They don't cheerfully flutter when the back door opens, but one can't have everything.

  13. I will not do it until the Fed's legalize the product. I will not take on the risk. There are more adventurous preparers out there who might, but not me. I am not making a moral judgment, I am just not going to risk my license for a trade that has unsettled legal implications. Tom Newark, CA

  14. Received a subpoena today! Some guy is suing my client over some profit sharing thing over this one construction job. I have to submit (by mail) to the plaintiff's attorney the financials, my invoices to the client, and some job costing work papers. I sent a copy of the subpoena to my client and yelled at him over the phone that I did not appreciate being hauled into his mess. On the advice of my attorney, I told him if he wanted to object to the subpoena then he would have to pay his lawyer to do that. Otherwise I would be complying and sending off the requested documents. I also spoke to the plaintiff attorney and asked why he wanted my invoices. He said to see how much of my fees were allocated to that job. None. He was pretty nice and assured me that I wasn't under any threat. My attorney assured me of same. I am just livid.

  15. The question of ATX vs Drake would be best answered by downloading 2015 version for both and seeing which one suits your work style best, which one would take you less time to do a tax return. ATX has PaperlessPlus FC software, but, as you learned, these FC softwares often store pdfs in a manner that requires you to have their software to access. For that reason, and because I'm cheap, we have always just manually created folders for clients tax returns, records and other documents. We are almost entirely paperless now and we can easily access the pdfs without the need for any software, probably faster too.
