  1. I don't have the program in front of me, but maybe you click on the ex-bunny on the depreciation box and you will have a chance to enter the new asset.
  2. You cannot use CEZ two times. I agree that we need one Schedule C because they are related.
  3. Maybe you should ask her how many credits she took in 2012 for each semester she attended and then compare to what the U considers a "full time load".
  4. Read carefully the three conditions and you will see that most students qualify even when they are under 24.

    System error

Power down the computer for 1 minute.
  6. Add it to the basis of the house. No deduction.
  7. I like the reponse that JOHNH gave a couple of years ago, which made me laugh because he was joking and I liked it... "Check the cables and make sure the printer is on".
  8. In this case, I asked the taxpayer to ask the attorney and the attoeny said to me "it is liquidated damages." It is a breach of a tacit contract. Employee was fired unjustly and they XXK amount of money in back pay and an exact amount for "liquidated damages" based on the new labor or family law of 2006???? (I wasn't paying that much attention). I asked the attorney if they were asking for "suffering" compensation and she said "NO". At that point I knew it was a line 21 item. TP got two forms, one W-2 for XXK amount with deductions and a 1099 for the same amount as other income. I just wanted to double check with the attorney if suffering was involved to make a portion of the 1099 not taxable but she said no. Thank you for the replies, you guys are the best!!!!
  9. Do you know if Liquidated damages are taxable?
  10. File with the SS#. You will not be able to efile if W-2 shows a different number for SS# (if filer).
  11. When I roll over a return (maybe this is happening only to me), I am told that form MD502 (for example), is not ready and that it will be rolled over when available. I guess my rollover program compares the forms installed in my ATX 2012 and gives me that info. So, I was telling my MD clients that MD was not ready yet. By coincidence, I added that form to a new client and I noticed that most MD forms were "available now" but my program was not downloading automatically. I added all the MD forms to download and they all, all of them, were added to the client I was working on. Needless to say that I had to rollover the client again because I didn't want to discard 100 forms. I checked my other two states DC and VA and there were also forms "available now" that my program didn't bother to update. So, I created a dummy client and I clicked on all of them and now I have them. I have never used automatically updates until this year and I guess I will go back to hand pick my forms. FYI.
  12. I am in DC and cannot efile DC or VA. "other preparers" are not using ATX, are they?
  13. I installed the program late december and then I went on vacation, I did my first updates around Jan 10. I don't have any major issues. I DO NOT USE CLIENT LETTERS OR ANY OTHER FANCY THINGS. How about you? When did you install, when did you do your first update and how are you doing? Please DO NOT elaborate on the issues since this post is to see if there is something we can learn for next year.
  14. Chowdahead, are you using XP or Win 7? Adding more than 4G memory won't help in XP. I am using windows 7 and I have no issues, except that the relationship cannot be deleted or changed to blank after you remove the dependent. Rollover manager rolls over a return very fast... too fast that at the beginning I thought it was not working.
  15. If you enter the wrong date of birth, then you will be rejected because the date of birth of the TP doesn't match the database. So the 25-65 requirement is not an issue here.
  16. Since 1040Xs are carefully reviewed by the IRS, why don't you test the waters by amending one year?
  17. Don't change the drivers for the printer, that will not solve your issue. Do you have another printer that you can print to? Are you admin for the ATX program? Are you admin to the computer? If you are not admin to the ATX program, you might not be able to change the print settings.
  18. She cannot amend from MFJ to anything else at this point. The IRS will try to collect from both or whoever they can get their money from first, which could be the wife. Check the innocent spouse relief and maybe the wife will get a break.
  19. Then it is the settings on ATX. Maybe you will need to uninstall and reinstall if you don't find the settings that need to be changed.
  20. Are you printing backwards from Word, acrobat reader and ATX?
  21. By the way, nice topic and nice name you have chosen. With a topic and name like those, I think you got a warm welcome after all.
  22. To the original poster.... please use manual updates of the forms and run the program after you have opened it and don't open any clients until the update has taken place. I normally do two updates a day during Jan and Feb and I do one daily. Automatic updates could cause some damage from time to time.
  23. Thank you. So we have to pay for that service or do we have it for free as before? I am not at the office but I will check tomorrow.
