  1. I don't EVER volunteer to send the paper returns to the IRS. I give them the envelope with the returns and ask them to take it to the postal office. If the postal office or the IRS looses that return, the client would not claim that I never sent it. I don't recommend drop box for our type of business.
  2. Thank you. I forgot that detail. I have that problem with cleaning people because they make little money and their insurance is very expensive. Most of them refuse their employer's insurance and go to the exchange or uninsured.
  3. Make it short and simple. With one hand give him his paper and with the other open the door. With your head and neck show him the open door and politely but firmly say "Adios Amigo". (Make sure you pronounce Adios as Arios). If that doesn't work, just tell them the truth such as: You are not organized, you are using business money for personal expenses and you expect me to take deductions, you are always late with the information when I ask you, I don't feel comfortable with these expenses, etc. Careful with saying "You need someone more experienced", this person will go and tell everybody that you don't know anything and bla bla. Remember the rules of marketing.
  4. I read the whole thing and I still don't understand. Poster said that she was at the 150% of the poverty level. If yes, she qualifies for PTC. If I am not mistaken, whoever is under 400% of FPL qualifies. If a representative asks me how much does your insurance cost at work, my answer would be $10K. If the representative takes that amount into consideration, it will be unaffordable unless I make more than 100K a year. If I failed to let the representative that I only pay $200 per month and that my employer pays the rest, the representative will get me insurance through the exchange. I am lost on both paragraphs? Thank you.
  5. During the ATX storm, I predicted that the software was going to be good every year after because they fix all issues during that one year. I also predicted that people who left were coming back in a couple of years BUT I underestimated the power of marketing from Pro Series. People are not coming back because Pro Series made them a very good offer for 5 years. If I am not mistaken, they are paying less for Pro Series for 5 years and there is no motivation to come. How is the software this year?
  6. carry forward 3K and final de la conversacion.
  7. does the person have a ss number? Does the person live in the United States? Does the person have Earned income. I love when my clients ask question without giving me some information, BUT I love it more when it comes from a tax professional.
  8. Interesting. No more EIC on amended returns after an ITIN holder gets his SS card. I don't understand the last sentence of the article. Will the IRS have until May 15 or Feb 15 to issue EIC check because returns will be reviewed more careful next year.
  9. Very useful but you need to know about the 8.05% of your income vs cost. Is this correct? If you live in MD or any state that participated in the Medicaid expansion, you will get help from the exchange so technically health insurance will be affordable to you because they will help. So the only exception for US Citizens living in MD will be that the income is below the filing threshold if you didn't have insurance all year.
  10. If I am not mistaken, we have to be very careful when we check the box on form 1040. As RitaB said it means "LEAVE US ALONE WE ALL HAD INSURANCE ALL YEAR". It also means "WE ALL HAD HEALTH INSURANCE ALL YEAR... END OF CONVERSATION". So the software will honor the second quote and whatever you do inside form 8965 will be ignored. When the IRS checks the return in 2 years, our clients will show that didn't have any health insurance and will get a bill and/or a letter.
  11. It seems that option 1 is checked automatically by the software if they qualify. Option 1 yes is greyed out for me on all returns. It is either check or blank. For option 2, you have to select what kind of hardship for each member and select what months the hardship was present. Let's say that I only make 1K every month for 11 months and I have 3 children. Then I hit the Powerball on Dec 15th and I have 100 millions in December. Since not only am I lucky but I am also smart, the first thing I need to do is to get health insurance for December for me and for all my dependents. So, in this case, option 1 is not available to us because we are reporting 100 millions and 11 thousand dollars on our return. So we go to option 2 and we select that insurance was not affordable to us for those 11 months. If you don't select the months, you will get that yellow message.
  12. Yes, provided she was full time student for 5 months. "Part year" could be one day or 364 days.
  13. Don't look for a new video card. Look for a faster internet connection. I play cards with two computers. One connected to my regular cable fast connection and another connected to a mifi (hotspot). No matter what computer I use on the hotspot (which is slower than my cable connection), I get that ghost image on the slower connection. Sometimes it stays for a while and sometimes it goes away if I reload the page.

    IS A 1095 A MUST HAVE

I think these are the few questions that are key: Did everybody on your return have health insurance all year in 2015? yes Where did you get your insurance from? From my employer. I would check the box and efile. Did everybody on your return have health insurance all year in 2015? no. Are you going to pay the fine? yes fill out the penalty form and efile. Did everybody on your return have health insurance all year in 2015? yes Where did you get your insurance from? From the exchange. I need the form the exchange will sent you. NEXT.
  15. Catherine, Please remove the link. If there is information you would like to share, please post it as text.
  16. You are right Gail. Most IRS communications are written upside down anyways.

    EA Card

I just got a letter not a card at all. I meant, I ONLY got a letter, not a card when I re-enroll in March 2015.
  18. I am glad 3 people like your answer because I was about to reject the K1 because I thought that that entry in Box 14 C is for farm income. After I went to ATX and I enter the information, Box 14 code C is for "gross receipts", which doesn't play in tax calculation. So I guess the K1 is correct.
  19. I have a client who shares 50% of partnership. He does all the work so he has 90K each year as guaranteed payments. This year the company made $100K so his K1 shows 5K ordinary business income line 1 and 90K as guaranteed payments on line 4. On line 14 Self-employment earnings (loss) the K1 has two entries: A 95K C160K Is that a mistake since the partnership didn't make more than 100K even with the other partners income?
  20. I have been looking at the IRS website and I have not found the difference between Acceptance Agent and Certifying Acceptance Agent regarding ITINs. Do you know the practical difference?
  21. I wonder if Intelius will help for someone who married in El Salvador. Or someone who married in the U.S. and got divorced in El Salvador. I can only imagine how they could track marriages that took places in dirt road and mosquito infested churches like the one in my ex-village. Remember that as long as marriage was recognized in a foreign country and as long as that married didn't violate local laws, it is legit. As I said before, there are too many places where you can get married in this planet and there are also so many places to get a divorce that not even intellius know what it is doing in some cases.
  22. Well.... if you saw it on line, you will never be able to lay your hands on it. (sorry, couldn't resist) NATP sent an article about that this week but I only glanced at the title.
  23. I agree that we need to strictly follow protocols from now on. I wonder if the change of address letter is sent to the old address or the new address. It should be sent to both and maybe that's why people a receiving more that one with a single event. So, I file with these two addresses: Year 1: 4215 L Street Year 2: 6545 Ogden Street In an effort to combat identity theft, the IRS should send a letter to both addresses. If they send it only to the new address and I have been a victim, I will never get that notification. On the other hand if I don't follow protocols and I assume that computers should be smarter than the person at the IRS (because I am definitely that smart if I don't follow protocol) and use: Year 1: 4215 L Street Year 2: 4215 L Str I will get two letters and me being not that bright, I will say, Why the IRS is not smart enough and sent me tow identical letters. As you know, Federal employees are forbidden to make any changes on the forms they receive (Even if they know the information is incorrect) and they are supposed to keep every piece of paper they receive.
  24. Correct John, but how can I prove to you that I am single? Most of the posters agree that the bigger problem is that married people come to us as single. The only country that requires an affidavit of "singleness" is Cuba and with the new events, that will be abolished.
