  1. I don't usually, but I started studying for EA in May so I held off until I passed all the exams and got my certificate. I started with CE for that designation this week.
  2. For anyone waiting to find out if they passed their SEE 1/2/3, Prometrics has updated their website and we can now find out. No need to wait for the mailman! Just log in and click on test history. The results are there. I'm happy to report that I passed SEE2. I'm so glad I put in those 7 weeks to study for it. I'm hoping to pass SEE1 in August and SEE3 in September and be an EA by filing season.

    SEE1

I agree with that Rita. I thought it was fair also. I would just caution on the questions that have "except" and "which one is not......". I had time left over so I went back through each question and re-read and I did find one that I had overlooked "except" and I needed to change the answer. It may have been cold in there, I was to nervous to even notice.

    SEE2

That's great Jack. I hope I can pass it the first time and not have to back-track. I studied for 2 about 6 weeks. I'm going to try to spread 1 and 3 out about 4 weeks each. i purchased Passkey EA Review and really like it with the practice tests and the website practice exams.

    SEE2

I only did it because I was scared I would pass the others and never pass 2 so I made up my mind to tackle it first. Now the question is... Did I pass it? I won't know that until August... But onward anyway.

    SEE2

I took the SEE2 exam today. I've been studying for a couple months. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm trying to decide which one to try next. Any recommendations?
  7. I got an email to renew ATX and I have never purchased ATX. I did use it when I was employed by another tax preparer.
  8. If the daughter is not claimed on her parents return, you will need to list the parents 1095-A on her return and allocate the agreed upon amount to her.
  9. This could be useful - framed in the waiting area. "This week, the Tax Court reminded us that even though your boss may have an expectation that you dress a certain way while at the office or while working the assembly line at the cracker factory, that doesn’t necessarily mean you can claim a tax deduction for your work “uniform.” http://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonynitti/2016/04/29/tax-court-cost-of-ralph-lauren-salesmans-polo-wardrobe-was-not-tax-deductible/#4d3915b96eb2
  10. Congrats!!!! I'm happy to help with any questions (if I know the answer). Drake also has a forum with many helpful people. Be sure to get set up for that.
  11. An FYI for you or your business clients. I received this notice from my insurance agent..... "Beginning in June, 2016, the Marketplace intends to phase in the employer notice program. This means, you as an employer may receive a letter from the Marketplace notifying you that an employee has been deemed eligible for a Marketplace subsidy and enrolled in coverage. This notification will only occur if the employee has correctly provided the employer’s address and the information is routed to the employer’s human resource personnel. The Marketplace will only determine whether an individual is eligible for these subsidies when he or she applies for coverage. This determination does not establish whether the individual’s employer is liable for shared responsibility penalties, but it may provide a basis for the IRS to assess penalties against an Applicable Large Employer or ALE (a large employer with 50 or more FTEs). For this reason, as well as to help ensure that individuals do not mistakenly receive health insurance subsidies, the ACA gives all employers the right to appeal Marketplace eligibility determinations. An appeal will allow an employer to correct any inaccurate information the Marketplace may have about the health coverage it offered to an employee who was deemed eligible for subsidies."
  12. As long as the coverage gap was less than 3 months in 2015 there would not be a penalty for 2015. Nov and Dec will be considered in 2016 if there is no insurance for Jan 2016.
  13. It downloaded and installed itself to my work computer. I couldn't print or access the internet. I googled uninstall and it was pretty easy to get rid of it, but it's now reminding me everyday to upgrade again.
  14. I got a notice to call a salesman for the best price, no price was listed. I don't use ATX so mine may be different than users.
  15. That happened to me 2 years ago after a vacation. I was notified by my credit card co. to call them and someone had charged over 7,000 in the UK. We got it all straightened out and several days later while viewing my online banking I see transactions being charged on my debit card in the UK. That one required a report with the local law enforcement to reverse the transactions. I know I only used the credit card and debit card at one gas station on the way to and from vacation, so I don't know if the station was hacked or it was hacked some other way. At any rate, keep a close eye on any other cards you may have.
  16. I think in those situations I would file extension and try to get some sort of exemption. I would not say they had it if you know they did not.

  18. Instructions on 1095A.... "You must complete Form 8962 and file it with your tax return if any amount other than zero is shown in Part III, Column C, of this Form 1095-A (meaning that you received premium assistance through advance credit payments) or if you want to take the premium tax credit. The filing requirement applies whether or not you're otherwise required to file a tax return."

  20. He can deduct it on sch A if not included on W2. No SEHI unless included on W2.
  21. Thanks Judy, I think this may apply to MY return next year.
  22. Is there a way to code it as Military wages in ATX. I have one like that, he was stationed in Bahrain. I coded it as Military in Drake and it efiled fine.
  23. The 529 isn't taxable since they had more than 8K in QEE to offset it. It doesn't need to be on either return.
  24. I don't use ATX so I can't speak to what to do with it. Try to work through the worksheets starting on page 12 in the instructions for form 8965. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i8965--2015.pdf
