ATX SAYS MEMORY ISSUE WILL BE FIXED FOR 2014 SEASON
Jack from Ohio replied to Lee B's topic in General Chat
I have heard this for 3 years running. Why should I believe it now? I wasn't asked to be a beta tester this year, so I can't help with heads up info about the program. SKEPTICAL -
For two tax years, we have had ZERO luck getting late filing penalties abated. The IRS has become stiff-necked about it. Send the letter, charge your client and move forward. You did not delay 2 years. It has been caused by indifference or neglect on the part of the taxpayers. Don't let them draw you into the problem by pretending to be the victims and playing on heart and sympathy. Draw the line and sleep well.

I am getting the feeling that the "...continuing education credits..." must be courses that NY has approved. I would guess that all the CPE that E.A.'s and CPA's have to take is irrelevant? I will continue with my training and seminars just as in the past and will wait for the letter from NY saying we have not complied. There may be 5 clients available for a NY preparer by tax year 2015 filing. If NY will not accept CPE approved by the IRS, then I feel that we have no need to do NY tax returns. Glad I live in the Midwest and not on the liberal infected coastal areas of our country!! Rant over. -
And this surprises you how??

New York requires a fee to sign up if you do more than 10. At the firm we do about 5 every year. It seems that if you do less NY returns, they require more CPE. How are they going to police it? (never mind the numbers, I will have 40 hours before Dec 31 for this year alone) Seems like some people from California have taken up residence in the NY tax office. -

Seriously? -
Depending upon which processing center it goes to, it may take as much as 48 hours to get acknowledgment for 2012. Go to MYATX and check the status. Probably no issue. Patience. ATX Blog has information about KY having e-file issues. Check out the blog.

FYI: The contractors cost is 1/4 of the amount charged by the IRS. THAT is the basis for the lawsuit.

Wanna take a bet about getting ANY refund??

There is a scheduled power outage for the whole building for necessary repairs or maintenance of electrical items. E-File processing just happens to be in the same building. This has been happening for 30 years or so. Nothing to see here. Just normal maintenance. You can e-file as normal. The transmitter will simply hold the returns till the system is back online. Business as usual.

YEP! Just like I said.

Now you see my skepticism... Starting off with an early release of installation codes... After all the BIG talking they gave me the past two years, this is not a surprise when I look at their actions in the last 2 years.

Then what does this mea? IN Sch 6, line 5 states: "Credit for taxes paid to other states: Enclose other state's return." Is my English bad?
-
I attach pdf files to returns on a regular basis. As I stated, there is no option to attach ANY pdf files to the IN return. Indiana does not have a method to fax the information. Indiana does not have a website upload option, as some states do. Yet the form and the orange warnings say to attach the other state return. "...the pink warning will be modified for 2014 to be more specific about what it means." This from 2 higher up customer support people at CCH. Two calls in an hour. Their compliance department went to the source and found the answer. I sent an e-mail to three people at CCH. Seems I can still stir up action... If paper filing, attach the copy. If e-filed, save the copy in case IN asks for it. This is from IN tax department. If IN asks for it, I will bill the client for sending it and give them the address of the IN tax department to file complaints about their lame methods for e-file.

Funny, I was not asked to be a part of the Beta Testing this year. I wonder if I was too brutal to the software and too honest with them last year?? Nonetheless, I am seriously SERIOUSLY considering a change for 2014 tax season. The software issues in 2012 and the residuals for 2013 cost my personal practice over $2K in revenue for tax year 2013. From all the responses I have received from management at CCH, pricing for 2014 will not take into account ANY of their previous KNOWN issues and shortcomings. Film at 11:00

Because Americans have become addicted to having Uncle Sam save money for them, then they spend the money at Christmas or early January, and expect to get their refunds in a few days to pay the bills they have racked up. We hear it all the time... "I need that money to pay.. ________ .(fill in the blank with most anything you can imagine) Financial and budget responsibility is non-existent in 85% (I may be generous there) of the American public. Until those two issues go away, Congress will not do the things necessary to reduce the ease of which fraudsters can steal money. Refunds should be delayed until at least May 1, to allow matching and checking. However, the vast majority of Americans would never stand for it. Hence US taxpayers lose Millions each year.

Does not matter for inherited IRA.

I agree with Catherine. Line 21 NOT subject to SE. See my later posts... Edited 1-10-15

We are seeing 12 weeks to 6 months depending upon how much the processing agent has to read and understand to process the return. The experience and skill of those that process amended returns has become pathetic.
