  1. Technically, for a rollover the code is correct. If the client took the money out and rolled it over to a new IRA, the old trustee has no information other than the distribution that they have properly reported. You will need to fill in the rollover box on the 1099R you input and complete the explanation stating that the money was rolled over. The code G is for trustee to trustee transfers only and does not apply to rollovers.
  2. I updated a few days after it came out. I immediately had an issue with one of the workstations not working at all (panic attack!) but I was able to get it back without a lot of difficulty. Since then, I can't say that I have noticed much difference. The completed box may work but since I have not had time to go back and try to mark all the ones that I lost I can't really say. I just still feel like I am working through molasses. Particularly on a complex return, I have to stop and wait for the computer to catch up on input, and loading takes forever!
  3. I would calculate the mileage expense and then treat the lease payment as reimbursement from employer. Depending on the numbers this could result in deduction or possibly even income.
  4. I filed some 1065s already this year without a problem.
  5. Not all states require an attorney to handle an estate. In Virginia the executor handles everything and just files th inventory and accounting with the commissioner of accounts, who may be the only attorney involved. I have never known the commissioner of accounts to mention to the executor that they need to file a 1041.
  6. If this is a systemic problem for all FTHB with repayments, you might be able to get the Taxpayer Advocates office to look into it. Systemic problems are supposed to be part of their mandate.
  7. My fear is not that I will file the wrong return - it is that I will miss filing a return that I should file!
  8. Or based on the other questions, I assumed the OP was asking about federal taxes withheld from wages - which of course would be included in the total wages and not deducted again.
  9. ...only works if you get off three times a day (off the computer, that is.)
  10. Apparently the find other things more crucial, even though it looks like this would be a simple thing to get out of the way.
  11. I have e-filed a 1041 already using ATX, however, I did not have to worry about estimates and I believe that was what the OP was about.
  12. Cheers, JB. Thanks for inviting us to have a drink with you.
  13. And to correct KC's typo, it is spelled farrier.
  14. I would rather our elected officials actually worked together and passed a real budget that cut spending appropriately. Since that obviously is not going to happen, at least spending has been cut a little bit.
  15. I had one (with EIC) that I have been checking since early Feb. Acceptance date was 2/2/13. Finally, today, it shows refund approved. Hooray! She will now hopefully quit calling me to ask why everyone else has their money and she doesn't!
  16. And now that we can easily attach PDF files to e-files, I would attach a statement showing her insolvency immediately before the cancellation of debt. It couldn't hurt, and you should have it prepared in your files anyway.
  17. I am using the print packets, but checking and unchecking things when I bring up the print manager. So far, this is not causing me problems, although I am having to get used to where things are because it is a little different than the old ATX. For instance, the detail sheet for form 4562 is now under form 4562 instead of being under the worksheet for 4562. I agree with whoever said this was a strange year. The problems seem to vary so much between users, even users with similar hardware configurations, that it is almost like there are many different programs out there instead of one program. Wierd.
  18. Glad it has gone so well! Nice to have a break before you go back to the doctor.
  19. If you are using Word to create the document, I think that you can save the file as a PDF file.
  20. You should be able to create a PDF file and attach it to the efile
  21. I would like to be your friend.
  22. Thanks, Eric. Probably all of the rants about ATX are increasing the bandwidth we use. We appreciate this forum, and all that you do to look out for us!
  23. I wonder how things would play out with the economy and social security if EITC was eliminated, and instead there was no SS tax levied on the first $50,000 of earned income, with no cap on the other end? But when it is time to draw on SS, you still calculate as though the first $100,000 was the basis. Would that generate more or less for social security?
  24. It was a thread on the official ATX forum that showed pictures of things that are slower than ATX. They were old computer systems - punch card, ticker tape, etc. Somebody over there must not have thought it was funny. But I did. Glad I saw the link before the posting disappeared!
  25. Actually, ATX has said that there is a fault in the program causing this message to appear erroneously. This is one of the issues preventing users from having multiple returns open, and is supposed to be fixed in the next program release 12.10
