  2. Mel, maybe you could pass your story on to a local TV or newspaper reporter. Others in the community might like to know about the school's spending habits, too.
  3. I've got 2003 through 2007 running on my XP machine. You aren't trying to restore a 2004 return using the 2006 or 2007 program are you? You need the 2004 program to restore a 2004 return.
  4. Can you buy a cup of coffee for a dollar?
  5. If, for some reason, the state rejects the corporation then you will have applied for an EIN for a nonexistent entity. I would get the state corporate filing out of the way before I applied for the EIN. Some of the attorneys on the board may have a better idea.
  6. I think Murphy was lead programmer on the Peachtree development team.
  7. "there are certain places in the house I would just as soon my better half wasn't snooping around" Gotta hide those Playboy magazines somewhere!
  8. "Open Office, anyone?" I'm using it now for new work. I still have some legacy spreadsheets, etc. in Office 97. Open Office does all I need it to do. Now, if there was just a linux version of ATX...
  9. When you click on PDF you're using the ATX PDF engine which, according to some others on this board who are smarter than me, creates bloated PDF files. You would need to change printers to select PDFfactory as your printer.
  10. I print PDFs using PDFfactory and have never had a problem. If you have an older copy of ATX ( I think 2005 or older ) you should have a copy of PDFfactory on your disk.
  11. If he "donates much of his pension and social security" to the order and if he has mortgage interest, how much in taxes does he pay? Unless it's a big pension or he has other income that you haven't mentioned, I wouldn't expect him to have a big tax liability. I wouldn't put a big effort into saving $100 or so in taxes. If a lot of taxes are involved, give us some more information and maybe we can come up with suggestions.

    C S I

I still have my Osborne Executive. (It replaced my original Osborne One which was stolen.) The Osborne One had a FIVE inch CRT screen and two 80Kb floppies. The Executive was a step up with a seven inch screen (monochrome, of course). Ah, memories!
  13. JB, add my congratulations to the list. Don't let the honey do list get you so busy that you don't have time to post here and keep us up to date with what's going on.

    Bulldog Tom

I just noticed that KC's story about how many dogs it takes to change a light bulb does not include a bulldog among its listings. Does this mean that a bulldog can't change a light bulb?

    How to file

Sorry, Joel. When you said surviving spouse I incorrectly assumed you meant qualified widow(er). Yes, he would file a joint return and sign it as surviving spouse. I hope I clearly qualified my response regarding future years as depending on whether he had dependent children, their ages, etc.

    How to file

Shouldn't he be able to file a joint return for 2003 and 2004? Then, depending on dependents (is that redundant?) he could be surviving spouse for 2005 and 2006, else head of household or single.
  17. It's where you leave your MUDdy boots when you come in from plowing the north 40.

Speaking of JB... Has anyone heard how his trip to the Carribbean turned out?
  19. If you looked rich and about ready to die, you might get more inquiries.

    ATX / CCH

I have been using EasyACCT since before Intuit took it over. Since it's designed expressly for client writeup it allows fast "heads down" data entry from client check stubs, etc. It tracks payments to subcontractors for 1099 printing. It has live as well as after the fact payroll (and it prints to blank check stock). It also prints accounts payable checks on blank stock. I use it for (obviously) client writeup for about 30 clients. I also do live payrolls for six or eight clients and print accounts payable checks for another client. I was afraid it would go away after Intuit bought it (like we're afraid ATX will go away now that CCH has bought it), but Intuit has only improved it. My small firm would have a hard time doing without EasyACCT. --And no, I am not an Intuit employee. Just a solo practitioner CPA with a lot of writeup and tax work to do.
  21. Oreo double stuff for me.
  22. "...does S election stands cancelled from Jan 1 2008 or from date of stock sale transaction, (eg today's date)" If today's date is date of stock sale, then it's not 'kinda late' to be asking.
