  1. They are in the Birmingham, Alabama area too. Here's the good news - I've got two Liberty Tax Service franchisees as my clients. It seems that they can prepare the quicky 1040A's and RAL's but they can't prepare the corporate tax returns for their own corporations. So I prepare the corp returns for them. They pay their preparers $5.85 to $7.00 per hour. You can guess the quality of their work product. I also have an independent tax prep service that I do the corporate return for.
  2. Cheese & crackers for lunch, but I bet my wife will have something GOOD for supper.
  3. A stove is that coal or wood burning gadget in the kitchen that you cook on.
  4. Gosh, you guys are all old if you remember Computax. Another thing I remember about using them was that you had to ship the input sheets out of state and then wait on them to ship the returns back to you. It made the cut-off around April 5 to allow for shipping.
  5. Maybe somebody stole your identity and filed a false tax return using HRB as the preparer. Lenny the pirate may be the one who "pirated" your ID.
  6. I think technically, the money is income in 2008 because that was when it was received. However, I bet that, because the check was written in 2007, it will be included on the 2007 1099 form. Your problem will be convincing the IRS that the 1099 is wrong and the payment belongs in 2008.
  7. Mike, you stated that you wrote the author of the book and asked a question. Can you not contact the author again and ask for a citation?
  8. I have used a Brother 7820 since the beginning of last tax season. The scanner is a little slow, but otherwise it works great.
  9. KC, I too will be praying for you, your husband, and the rest of your family. Joe
  10. I found that by deleting the 8283, the contribution transferred from the K-1 input form to Schedule A. ATX had automatically put the 8283 in the return. I guess it's not needed for a passthrough.
  11. There is an 8283 in the return, but it has no data on it. Where would you list a passthrough from a partnership in the 8283? And it still leaves the main question - what do I need to do (check a box somewhere, etc) to get the info to flow from the K-1 input form?
  12. I'm working on a personal return with a passthrough from a partnership on line 13 E on Schedule K-1. Can someone tell me why it is not transferring to Schedule A? (Line 13 E is for non-cash contributions (30%)
  13. >>Men and women are not always speaking the same language....<< KC, it's great to see a little levity return to the forum. Taxes can be so boring this time of year.

    Schedule C

Pacun, I'm shooting from the hip here, without any research to back me up. I'd say the $200 rental income goes on Sch E just like any other rental income. However, an allocable portion of the translator's rent expense should go on Sch E as an expense. This will reduce his Sch C expenses and, to some extent, increase his SE income. I'll leave it up to you to determine how much rent expense to move to Sch E.
  15. I renewed early a couple of years ago. (Yes, I know it was the "old" ATX then and not the new CCH ATX.) Then in November the ATX board was full of comments regarding the new year's software that everybody was receiving. One poster even stated something like "I ordered on Monday and got my new software on Wednesday." I had ordered in May and was still wondering where my copy of the software was. Folks who waited until November were receiving their orders before me who ordered in May. That was my first and last time to give my money to ATX early. I'll probably renew with ATX, but I won't buy till fall.
  16. Looks like it's still getting good use here in June.

I have added a photo (actually a drawing) to my personal profile, but it doesn't show beside any of my postings. Can anyone tell me why?
  19. They are both government agencies. How many government agencies do you know of that are user friendly?
  20. I just found out about this board this morning. Glad to see it, and glad to see all my old "friends" from ATX again. PapaJoe
