Why is gift tax even in this discussion? If family and friends gave (loaned) him money and he invested it for a profit, then he is returning the loan plus interest. I'd suggest reporting all on his return, calculate the tax on the earnings, and pay out to the recipients their loan plus earnings net of the tax paid.

If you do Louisiana sales tax they have LATAP. Both TNTAP and LATAP work the same way - must be using the same software. If you think those names are cute, Alabama has MAT - My Alabama Taxes.

I use a cheap (around $50) Epson XP-420 inkjet printer almost exclusively for printing envelopes. It has a straight paper path and will take up to a 9X12 envelope. My main printer is a Brother all-in-one which prints, scans, and faxes. Having a dedicated envelope printer makes it easy - no doors to open, levers to flip - just adjust the paper guide to the envelope size and go.

I had an S-Corp client do that about 10 years ago. The attorneys who did all the paperwork (and who were well versed in taxes) had no problem with the corporation holding treasury stock. I don't have a problem with it either.

Another vote for OpenOffice. Been using it for years. Like Frazzled says, it's an adjustment. But there are many things in OpenOffice that are better than Microsoft Office. You just have to get used to the differences.

Not absolutely certain on this, but on son's return Schedule D show cost equal selling price to show zero profit. Son gives 1099-S to father showing same selling price.

House belongs (or belonged) to father. Son - your client - was the nominee title holder. If 1099-S is issued to son, he should report the sale as nominee to his father, so same dollars in and out on son's return. All reporting of rental income and expenses, sale of house, etc. should be on father's return. If the father is not your client, you do not need to be concerned with whether father reported all this correctly or not.

Gene, are you using the "new" website When they changed the name from Dept. of Industrial Relations to Dept. of Labor they created a new website. The old site used to redirect you to the new site with a warning message about the change.

My renewal price was $1,214 plus tax. Kinda steep for updating the 941, 940 and other payroll reports, but I haven't found another writeup package that comes even close to the ease of use of EasyAcct.
