  1. HAY HAY HAY - Enough with the puns, you have me racing around the office with the galoping giggles.
  2. Try booting your computer, i use steel tip boots!
  3. nice, i consider that found money! i guess i will wait till tomorrow and the either re-up or pull the plug. Proseries has given me a great price and will lock it in for 5 years. I dread the learning curve and conversion issues with so many PAL's and basis issues that probably will not convert right.
  4. I need to purchase something today. There are many complaints posted but is anyone having success this year with the program?
  5. i keep my password but add an A then a B then a C so i have 26 changes before i really have to come up with something new.
  6. law firms even if corporations must get a 1099
  7. i don't know their policy but i negotiated that my credit card will not be charged till 2/27. but just to make sure, i would make a dispute wiht my credit card company.
  8. I too used this method very often but lately i have had the agents decline the switch and they make the trip to my office. One came over 2 hours away and came 3 times to perform the audit.
  9. Thanks for the answers, it seems like you can atleast open the return and see the clients. many on the other board say you can't
  10. i haven't purchased yet and looking at the other board [theirs] it seems like i shouldn't but i was wondering since there are very few complaints here, is the program working for most of you? I am not asking about little bugs that always occur at the start of the year but can you open the program, rollover returns, get somesort of letters out etc.
  11. I am with you 100%. the early discount is stupid. So far i evaluated drake and lacerte and proseries. CCH gave me a hard time ordering a Taxwise demo since iwas an atx customer. Eventually a supervisor called me and i am supposed to receive the demo. that was 3 days ago. Value for $$$ ATX is still the best but i too will decide after the 1/10/13 release as to wether or not i reorder it this year. My office already uses Lacerte so i can add myself as a piggyback for around $3500.
  12. so, i tried to order a demo of taxwise since atx is so messed up this year and when i stupidly told taxwise sales that i was an atx user he transfered me to my atx customer rep. since they are the same company, you get the same rep. he told me that most people aren't having trouble with atx and he wasn't aware of any system wide issues and after listening to his sales pitch on atx for 5 minutes he refused to send me a taxwise demo. Looking at Proseries and Prosystemfx ppr next. I am already familiar with lacerte but want to see my other options.
  13. ITS a passive active with active participation. yes to the 25,000 assuming her overall income isn't over the limit
  14. i use the smart label printer. i have had one for over 10 years, you can print horiz/vertical etc, stores address and formats too. it can also capure the address info from a letter so you don't have to retype.
  15. i charge late fees and interest. once they get the late fee statement a check magically appears dated 2-3 days before the late fee kicked in. i also have most clients mail be the authorizations in my pre addressed envelope, most enclose my fee with them. my receivables are almost non existent. But on the other hand, i and my clients have always had cash flow issues this time of year. I think people just are busy with celebrations and vacations.
  16. i customize the invoices too, to put in a warning re: late fees and interest.
  17. Tom is incorrect, they added the importing of K-1 data to the 1040's 2 years ago. As for depreciation is maintained and updated year to year but what stupidly got eliminated is the ability to print out an asset history where you could see the deductions for the whole life. Now you just get the current year and the next year's. I use all three, prosystem fx untill 2 years ago then switched to lacerte at my firm. I use ATX for my separate practice and do around 300 returns in it. You need to know taxes for ATX especially your states. A federal deduction for example of long term health care will not trigger the coressponding credit on NY. You need to know to enter it manually. Letter editing and global formating sucks but they say its greatly improved for 2012. Likewise printing in horrible but they say it is better for 2012. You need to select on each return what you want printed or you get 100 pages of worksheets as the default. I spend longer selecting and printing a return than doing some simple ones. Multi-state returns also are not integrated so you have to do each one yourself and a minor change to your 1040 causes you to redo the states and recalculate the credits. On the other hand, every form is available, input is super fast and easy, efile works flawlessly and the price point isn't bad compared to the others.
  18. didn't Bill Gates say the same thing when he built his house and his property taxes were based on construction costs? He said there is no market value since no one else can afford to build a house like this.

  20. in this case they did take the forster child as a dependent and they are in the process of adopting. The student loan application is for one of their natural children.
  21. GOOD LUCK WITH THE SURGERY
  22. client asked me an interesting question and i hope someone here has run across it. they are filing out financial aid package for their 16 year old and it asks about any social secuity payments received for family members. the family is receiving benefits for a 10 y/o forster child. Should this be included in the family income amount? I don't know if forster child count as part of your family for this purpose.
  23. I WAS still receiving K-1's for some of my individuals in october, yes they were late but thats not my clients fault.
  24. if they came back after goiing to H&R then you were not charging enough. your 2 year fee was probably less than the one from H&R
