1. Former Carbonite user here. Carbonite is inappropriate for tax preparers and bookkeeper, or anyone who frequently updates files. (I won't bore you with the detail unless you ask.) I switched from Carbonite to CrashPlanPro when I switched to ATX because I called Carbonite when I saw I couldn't backup my ATX files. ATX made a poor decision to store the database AND the backup files in a hidden system folder. This year I finally moved my ATX backup files location to another folder. A tech at Spider Oak told me that it's a waste of time to backup a database using a remote backup program like these, because of the way these backups work. He said the database is often unusable when restored. So backing up the ATX backups is the most important thing to do. I've considered doing disk imaging for backups because of the time it would save using an image in the event of complete drive failure. You wouldn't have to reinstall and configure all of your software, including windows. Anyway, to answer the initial question, your files are stored here: C:\ProgramData\CCH Small Firm Services\ATX 2017 Server
2. All the reports you should need are part of the 4562 form. We us the Tax Classification report mostly.
3. You might want to regularly check the efile manager to see what the status of returns is. I'm just sayin'!
4. We still don't know what ILLMAS' issue is. I've never had any efiling issues with ATX in 5 years.
5. Are referring to a rehang? https://returnquery.atxinc.com
6. <backs slowly out of thread>
7. Transmitting and receive acks just fine.
8. I think they mean that people like us will not even have the option to pay for continued updates. You'll either have to move to 8 or 10.

10. I prefer to build computers and replace parts as they fail. Just rebuilt one in the office with a new motherboard, CPU and power supply, but the old SSD was still good, so I didn't have to spend 3 days configuring windows, installing programs, configuring programs and restoring data.
11. I just searched Costco for win10 pro dell and only got one result: https://www.costco.com/laptops.html?operating-system=windows-10-professional&brand=dell&refine=ads_f117501_ntk_cs%3A%22Windows%2B10%2BProfessional%22|ads_fbrand_ntk_cs%3A%22Dell%22|
12. ATX will only address 1 GB or RAM unless you install and run the Large Address Aware 3rd party utility. This is where I found it: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/ Large Address Aware Utility Instructions After installing, switch into Advanced Mode, add recent ATX.exe files, set LAA and Original to True using the 'With Selected' menu. You will still get the message that you can't open a second return, but ATX will not slow down when it goes over 1 GB of RAM. I used to have to close and restart ATX while working on larger returns and definitely before printing.
13. Most computers bought from these types of stores come with the home version of windows, which is not suitable for a work environment.
14. It's always the software companies that delay these things, but in this case I'm with them. I'm also betting they're hoping the new W4 gets scrapped. If it were up to me, there would only be the Single table and we would keep using allowances for withholding calculations. I'm pretty certain that personal exemptions will be back one day for tax purposes. They're actually not gone, they're just set at zero.
15. You must be this tall to ride this coaster.
16. Failure to pay is covered but the first time penalty rules: https://www.irs.gov/irm/part20/irm_20-001-001r#idm140198826274112
17. This is exactly why I love roller coasters.
18. I figured it was universal because I've seen it so many times from different clients. If I delete it QB and they add it back again, I rename the account Reimb***DO NOT USE***.
19. Few things get on my nerves more than a client listing an expense as 'reimbursed' or 'reimbursement'.
20. How can that not be fun?!
21. All I can say is, I'm thankful we have caller ID!
22. The IRS will say that this is compensation and needs to be reported, even if you try to call it a gift.
23. I've never heard of a surrogate account. Whose SSN is on the 1099?
24. Tell them you need everything entered in QuickBooks with bank statements reconciled from the beginning... or they can go somewhere else. And that you'd be happy to enter it all for them a $5,000 retainer. How can a company with mid 6 figure sales not have any books! The IRS would slaughter them on an audit.
25. Well, he's never intended to use it as a residence, and if he sells it at a loss, the loss would be nondeductible.
