  1. The preparer is the one who made the mistake by not asking for the registration and invoice before adding the asset. Also, what was put down for mileage on the 4562 each year? Was personal use of vehicle calculated and added to W2s? I don't blame the customer, here.
  2. Yeah, we should be saying 'real estate investors' who had REITs added to the 20% QBI deduction at the 11th hour.
  3. The refundable portion only increased by $300 over previous law. The real people getting screwed are those who were in the 28% bracket but are now in the 32% bracket, with high SALT and high investment fees or employee business expenses. I have a pilot whose taxable income is going to increase by around 30k, due to losing deductions and personal exemptions.
  4. Imagine that! <Steps slowly back from the edge of politics.>
  5. If we have to start entering them, I'm going to make my scan searchable so I copy/paste the code in. I already make my complex clients scans searchable so I can find things easier, like when they have 6 brokerage accounts I can search for the account number.
  6. It's less glossy than last year, which makes it easier to read.
  7. This is why you should ask for a copy of the title and invoice on all vehicle purchases. AND get business/personal mileage on all vehicles every year. To make it right, you need to amend 2011-2016 to remove the vehicle and all related expenses from the corporation. They lied to to you and need to pay for their sins... plus tax and penalties.
  8. ATX is working on it now and hope to have it ready by start of efiling. https://community.atxinc.com/forums/permalink/253810/253819/ShowThread.aspx#253819
  9. I've tried a few in the past and none were useful. And don't listen while commuting. You'll fall asleep and run off the road!
  10. If the 1099 is part nominee, just back out the nominee part as an expense to avoid matching errors.
  11. I find it easier just to split the assets with different rates.
  12. You may have mixed use on the ones with buildings on them. Depends on what the buildings are used for.
  13. Turn off your security software, all of it.
  14. I'm glad someone smarter than me can read the new law. I read the meals part 3x and the only thing I got out of it was a headache!
  15. Sounds like a valid business use to me. Are the lots used for anything else?
  16. Because it makes you the Wizard of Oz in customer's minds. Great and powerful, able to provide excellent customer service!
  17. I did my first 1040 today! My son just has one W2 and is always anxious to get his refund. Wasn't thrilled that efiling doesn't open for another 2+ weeks.
  18. Q: Is the IRS working on a new Form W-4 to reflect the new tax law? A: Yes. The IRS continues to work on more detailed withholding information, which will be available soon in Publication 15 and related publications. In addition, the IRS is working on revising the Form W-4 to more fully reflect the new law and providing taxpayers information to determine whether they need to adjust their withholding. The IRS is also revising the withholding tax calculator on IRS.gov to help employees who wish to update their withholding in response to the new law or other changes in their personal circumstances in 2018. The IRS anticipates this calculator should be available by the end of February. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-withholding-tables-frequently-asked-questions
  19. Ouch! That could be a HUGE penalty.
  20. No, I called them back in November or December because I knew come 1/1 they would be swamped. I had a wait but it wasn't horrible and I got a very helpful person. Turned out that I didn't need to call at all because I got a Get Transcript account earlier in the year.
  21. The IRS sent a letter to my ex's employer instructing them to increase withholdings because she kept owing every year and had an ever increasing installment agreement. I LOL'd.
