  1. Some people suck at "computer things." I have clients that just give me their login info so I can download it for them. And I don't mind that one bit, because I have clients who print their 1099s in portrait mode when they should be in landscape, making them hard to work with. Why they just can't save the download is beyond me.
  2. I looked at the calendar once and I think it only ends on the 15th 3 out of 7 years, typically. And doesn't the April 18th Patriots' Day holiday usually extend tax season to the 19th?
  3. The IRS sent my ex's employer a letter telling them to change their W4 to single 0, because she kept owing the IRS every year. and kept rolling it into an installment agreement. When she brought that letter in to me, it was all I could do to keep from laughing. I've never seen a letter like that for any of my other clients.
  4. That's the best part. And the irony is that to take the mileage deduction, you had to have accounted for it anyway. Of course, their "accounting" is just pulling a number out of the air at year end.
  5. It's possible but it's not smart. You're creating phantom income, which costs both the business and the individual more taxes. Yet, I still have clients with old timey sales reps that want it that way because... wait for it... THAT'S THE WAY IT'S ALWAYS BEEN DONE! Stupid is as stupid does.
  6. Always report the 1099 amount to get by the IRS computer, then show the difference as an expense. Checks mailed late in December and not received until January, cause this all of the time.
  7. Glad to hear there are some youngsters on this board.
  8. What is this, the 60s?
  9. Of all the changes they could have made, they decided this was important?! And, one again, they did not even attempt to communicate that this was changing.
  10. I was just getting ready to post this same article!
  11. ATX has a utility called Refresh App Configurations. Go to the Support menu, then choose Customer Service Utilities.
  12. But with one kid, the increased tax from filing separately might more than offset the extra $700 gained.
  13. All you have to do is to read the Qanon casualties reddit and see the daily carnage caused by those insane conspiracy theories. It's not all divorces (some aren't married). One lady's mom thinks her baby is going to be half human because the pregnant lady got vaccinated. We live in "interesting" times.
  14. Cash basis is pretty straightforward. Although, what typically happens at year end is back dating checks written after year end, and holding incoming payments until the following year. Not saying this is legal or correct. It's just reality.
  15. The software companies have to change their systems, BUT if they make errors, it could cause us more work, dealing with rejects.
  16. It's not ATX (as far as I know). It's the IRS. I just get them to sign the 8879 as is. That number is the corrected amount, in total, even though it's confusing.
  17. Pass.
  18. But it may not be a foreign account. I have all kinds of brokerage 1099s with foreign income but the income is all held in a domestic account so there are no FBAR issues. And none of my clients with actual foreign financial accounts have ever received a 1099.
  19. Do you know if the taxpayer efiled last year? Stupidly, it doesn't say 1040X when creating the efile, but it is the 1040X.
  20. And you can turn off those blue triangles in Preferences.
  21. Open a case with ATX support. They'll need to fix this. It's probably a very rare situation.
  22. That's what I've always done. It's been reported to the IRS, just like any other 1099MISC.
  23. LOL Sounds like an interesting site.
  24. This is the way I've always done it, but I'm going to try the preparer change next time.
