ATX has blamed the software that comes with your printer, so if you installed any software with your printer, uninstall. It's totally unnecessary. We mostly print to PDF so I've never personally experienced this, but I've seen slow printing when the memory use gets highers, so, yes, I close ATX and reopen then immediately print.

If you don't want your client's email address going to the IRS...

But... the Return Manager still has the email address and that's really the only place I need it. -

I'm sorry to report that ATX apparently saves the return when it creates the efile, which is probably a good idea, but it totally screws this plan. SORRY! -
...this is where ATX not automatically saving and ability to close without saving come in super handy. Delete client's email address and press Enter. (Important to press Enter) Create efile and print return. Close without saving!!! The email address will be there when you reopen the return, but it will not be in the efile or on the printed forms. Sure, this will be a hassle when recreating an efile, but at least it's on the first page of the 1040 form, Main Info. Bonus tip: The fastest way to get to the main form of any return: Ctrl+O, Enter. And the fastest way to get to the first page of any form, Alt+P, Enter.

I just paid 48/yr for SendInc. Think of it as a temporary portal. I upload organizer, tax returns, efile signature forms, etc. and I set it to expire in however many days I want, usually 60 or 90. Clients can easily upload files and communicate with me in an email like format, as well. You can also get 'read receipts' so you know the clients seen the upload. Only limit is 200 uploads per day so I had to upload organizer over several days, but you can only to do many of them without getting blurry eyed anyway. I uploaded my email contacts for clients and other businesses I deal with (lawyers, banks, etc.) so I didn't have to type them all in.

guaranteed payments and partner's adjusted basis
Abby Normal replied to cl2019's topic in General Chat
Except... guaranteed payments reduce ordinary income because they are deducted by the partnership as an expense, so the capital account will decrease for all partners' shares of the guaranteed payment deduction. -
Actually, in looking at these batch files, they're identical except for the year and the file location. So you can edit the file if you're ever missing one that you need.
-
I am too good! I searched for the batch file name for 13 and found the bat file cached. https://send.firefox.com/download/546b38f5aafbd8eb/#wrT2WamOzjsMqnsXqyDEnQ

I suppose you could delete the folders ATX leaves behind. I use Geek Uninstaller and it scours my computer and registry for bits left behind, to completely rid my computer of software I no longer use.
-
Try running the 18 repair database batch file. You have to download it here: https://support.cch.com/kb/solution.aspx/000041746 Make sure you close all ATX services and run the batch file as administrator (right click).

Nope. I learned about this late last year, and 13 was already gone. Fortunately when we moved 13 to our new Win10 computer, it just worked.

how to print stock and loan basis from a 1120s return using ATX MAX
Abby Normal replied to cl2019's topic in General Chat
You still have to expand all pages and check that page in the print return dialog box. -
2017 was the last year, it was printed, then during the redesign of the form, and they decided (correctly) that all that was needed was a checkbox in the paid preparer section.
-
I added an 'Initial here' line at the bottom of my engagement letter that authorizes us to file extensions. If that's not good enough for... who exactly is it we're supposed to be placating?
-
Third Party Designee will be blank 99.9999% of the time because the preparer is the 3rd party. This is not a change from last year.

Brand new off-the-shelf computers come with a ton of crapware installed and running. Uninstall everything you don't need/want.
-
Sounds like a windows security feature. If you say yes, it doesn't go away? You can also reduce the level of security in Windows Control Panel, User Account Control. I always turn it completely off on my computer. It's too annoying.
-
We usually go back and enter the prior year return anyway, so we can provide a useful organizer and to double check the return. We get to amend a lot of returns that way.
-
Sorry guys and gals, but I've been printing single pages, full returns, etc. with no problemos. The only advice I can give is close/reopen ATX before printing, and uninstall any printer software that came with your printer. That crap is nothing but trouble.
-
The hardest part is going to be looking at 18 and 19 at the same time. A lot of stuff got moved. But there's still room for a free pizza coupon at the bottom!

ATX has dropped the 2014 database repair file and added the 2019. I cannot recommend enough that you download these files every year. I have 14 if anyone needs it: https://send.firefox.com/download/36b94dad48ad57d0/#i-gvch7OTmEBF3Yh_cULog

ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat

It's not clear whether 2019 is the first year as an S corp or if S corp returns have been filed for several years. But you're right that if she didn't get use the ein to open a bank account and hold herself out to be a corporation, then assets were never transferred into the s corp and she can file as a sole proprietor. If an EIN was obtained and a 2553 filed, you should file a first and final 1120S with all zeroes.

ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Just came her to post the same. On a bad note, the 1040ES will not be available tomorrow. The date changed to 2/6.
