I added an 'Initial here' line at the bottom of my engagement letter that authorizes us to file extensions. If that's not good enough for... who exactly is it we're supposed to be placating?
-
Third Party Designee will be blank 99.9999% of the time because the preparer is the 3rd party. This is not a change from last year.

Brand new off-the-shelf computers come with a ton of crapware installed and running. Uninstall everything you don't need/want.
-
Sounds like a windows security feature. If you say yes, it doesn't go away? You can also reduce the level of security in Windows Control Panel, User Account Control. I always turn it completely off on my computer. It's too annoying.

We usually go back and enter the prior year return anyway, so we can provide a useful organizer and to double check the return. We get to amend a lot of returns that way.
-
Sorry guys and gals, but I've been printing single pages, full returns, etc. with no problemos. The only advice I can give is close/reopen ATX before printing, and uninstall any printer software that came with your printer. That crap is nothing but trouble.

The hardest part is going to be looking at 18 and 19 at the same time. A lot of stuff got moved. But there's still room for a free pizza coupon at the bottom!

ATX has dropped the 2014 database repair file and added the 2019. I cannot recommend enough that you download these files every year. I have 14 if anyone needs it: https://send.firefox.com/download/36b94dad48ad57d0/#i-gvch7OTmEBF3Yh_cULog

ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct

It's not clear whether 2019 is the first year as an S corp or if S corp returns have been filed for several years. But you're right that if she didn't get use the ein to open a bank account and hold herself out to be a corporation, then assets were never transferred into the s corp and she can file as a sole proprietor. If an EIN was obtained and a 2553 filed, you should file a first and final 1120S with all zeroes.

ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Just came her to post the same. On a bad note, the 1040ES will not be available tomorrow. The date changed to 2/6. -
You're talking about a corporate dissolution, which may not be too bad if the only asset is cash.
-
If the preparer is the designee, check both boxes and see the box in the preparer section. 3rd party box will be blank.
-
I don't use payroll but I think I read on the official forum that you have to check individual forms to print, which is a new feature.
-
I add a question to the organizer every year asking if they kept a mileage log for all business or rental miles.
-
I do like the larger print.

All of your data should be in c:\ProgramData\Wolters Kluwer (for 2018 & 2019). Older years are in c\ProgramData\CCH Small Firm Services. And yes, these are hidden folders.

We don't allow it. When they do it and refuse to get it fixed, we remove the asset from the books and tax return, treat all loan payments and vehicle expenses as distributions and do a journal entry at year end for business mileage at the standard rate with a credit to additional paid in capital. The client loses the deduction for interest on the truck, since it's a personal vehicle, but doesn't have to add anything to their W2.

I turned off win 10 updates for 100 days so we won't have to deal with this mess. https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2020/01/25/microsoft-windows-10-warning-security-update-crash-boot-fail-upgrade-windows-10/#79e9b29c341b -
does anyone else get this when they try to log into support
Abby Normal replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
Have gotten it several times. Close your browser, or at least that tab, then try again. -
Sounds like you have PDFs opening in your browser. The only time I would use that setting is if there was no pdf reader on the computer. Unfortunately, it seems to be a default setting because so my of my clients end up in that PDF purgatory with no clue how to get out.

Download these fix files for every year (everyone reading this should do so as well). https://support.cch.com/kb/solution.aspx/000041746 End all ATX services in task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc or right-click taskbar). RUN THE FIX FILES YOU DOWNLOADED AS ADMINISTRATOR by right clicking and choosing 'run as administrator.' This needs to be done on the computer where you ATX data is.

Did someone on here say they used https://w21099.com/index.html? I wanted to ask how simple or complicated the QB import was. I just bookmarked the site today but I can't find the post that mentioned it.

I'm glad it was online and not live because I was spitting bullets! I would've gotten a black mark on my permanent record from support. -
ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Grrr. Maybe I wasn't specific enough, but support says the worksheet is just fine. Issue Summary Social Security benefits worksheet has a bug Description 1040 Line 5 Social Security Benefits worksheet line 3 does not match the one in the IRS 1040 instructions. It is missing line 6 capital gains. This is a copy/paste from the IRS instructions: lines 1, 2b, 3b, 4b, 4d, 6, and Schedule 1, line 9 However, your worksheet skips the 6: lines 1, 2b, 3b, 4b, 4d, and Schedule 1, line 9 Is this on your list of things to fix? Thanks! Joe Resolution Good Morning Mr. Davis, The layout is correct. According to the IRS, the worksheet is correct. The link to which you can see the worksheet for 2019 is https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p915.pdf. Please contact the ATX customer support center at your earliest convenience if this does not resolve your issue. We can be reached at 1(800) 495-4626. Thank you for choosing Wolters Kluwer.
