Highlight the item in print returns window then use Ctrl+up arrow or down arrow. Also, right click the item and choose move to top or bottom. Somethings seem to print ok even they're in the wrong order on the screen, like K1 basis pages. And always check the 'remember' box at the bottom.

I've had ATX alert me that they were shortening the names, when creating the efile. I guess some names are just too long.
-
You can do that in DE, and some other states. MD hasn't gotten with the program and their standard deduction was never indexed for inflation so the gap between the federal standard deduction and the MD standard deduction is huge.
-
Me too, because most of my Sch E's aren't qualified. We're going to have to update our organizer questions for QBI hours, and log keeping.

I can't believe you have a client who can itemize. I haven't had one yet this year, so far. Those usually come in later. The donation was in 19, so the deduction can only be taken in 19. Wait for the sale amount. The IRS might send you a notice and then you can send them the 1098C with explanation.

Since the personal exemptions are zero on the 1040, there are no allowances on the W4. The withholding tables broke from past practices of using a number much smaller than the standard deduction so workers were more likely to have a cushion of extra withholdings. The new tables use the full 12,400 standard deduction, so that cushion is gone. A single worker with one job who just checks single on the new W4 then signs it, will be withheld very close to what their actual tax will be. Tell your clients that, and if they want a cushion they'll have to enter an amount on the extra withholding line to ensure a refund. The new form should also prevent the perennial disaster we've all seen, where a couple gets married and both changed their W4s to married, and end up owing a lot when they file their first joint return. A lot of wedding sites/magazines were actually recommending the newlyweds do this. And it's designed to help the person who works several jobs, and has no withholding on the lower earning jobs. Now they can have their main job do all of the withholding for all of their jobs. To me the biggest downfall is going to be kids working summer jobs having unnecessary withholding then having to file a return to get it refunded. They should have put a 4th checkbox at the top, that says, I am single and expect my total income to be less than 12,400. This would let employers know to not withhold any taxes. If you read the instructions, your supposed to write 'EXEMPT' in a blank space under 4(c), which is really poor form design.

In the case of an electronically filed return, a complete copy of a taxpayer's return or claim for refund consists of the electronic portion of the return or claim for refund, including all schedules, forms, pdf attachments, and jurats, that was filed with the IRS. The copy provided to the taxpayer must include all information submitted to the IRS to enable the taxpayer to determine what schedules, forms, electronic files, and other supporting materials have been filed with the return. ATX didn't even bother to notify us, we just checked and the error was gone.

Most recent addition to my Customize Master Forms list: 8889 Stmt - Page 1 Link line 14c to 15 in both columns so line 15 Qual medical exp = distributions I have never had one where the HSA distributions were higher than the medical expenses paid that year. I did this after a noob preparer entered a 1099-SA and didn't know to go to the 8889, so the taxpayer showed other income plus penalties!

8606: enter the Roth basis.

That's where it's supposed to be. But I've inherited S corps that just rent buildings and it's been on page 1. But this doesn't solve the problem of having to pay Roberts exorbitant fee for preparing the 1120S.

ATX has blamed the software that comes with your printer, so if you installed any software with your printer, uninstall. It's totally unnecessary. We mostly print to PDF so I've never personally experienced this, but I've seen slow printing when the memory use gets highers, so, yes, I close ATX and reopen then immediately print.

If you don't want your client's email address going to the IRS...

But... the Return Manager still has the email address and that's really the only place I need it. -

I'm sorry to report that ATX apparently saves the return when it creates the efile, which is probably a good idea, but it totally screws this plan. SORRY! -
...this is where ATX not automatically saving and ability to close without saving come in super handy. Delete client's email address and press Enter. (Important to press Enter) Create efile and print return. Close without saving!!! The email address will be there when you reopen the return, but it will not be in the efile or on the printed forms. Sure, this will be a hassle when recreating an efile, but at least it's on the first page of the 1040 form, Main Info. Bonus tip: The fastest way to get to the main form of any return: Ctrl+O, Enter. And the fastest way to get to the first page of any form, Alt+P, Enter.

I just paid 48/yr for SendInc. Think of it as a temporary portal. I upload organizer, tax returns, efile signature forms, etc. and I set it to expire in however many days I want, usually 60 or 90. Clients can easily upload files and communicate with me in an email like format, as well. You can also get 'read receipts' so you know the clients seen the upload. Only limit is 200 uploads per day so I had to upload organizer over several days, but you can only to do many of them without getting blurry eyed anyway. I uploaded my email contacts for clients and other businesses I deal with (lawyers, banks, etc.) so I didn't have to type them all in.

guaranteed payments and partner's adjusted basis
Abby Normal replied to cl2019's topic in General Chat
Except... guaranteed payments reduce ordinary income because they are deducted by the partnership as an expense, so the capital account will decrease for all partners' shares of the guaranteed payment deduction. -
Actually, in looking at these batch files, they're identical except for the year and the file location. So you can edit the file if you're ever missing one that you need.
-
I am too good! I searched for the batch file name for 13 and found the bat file cached. https://send.firefox.com/download/546b38f5aafbd8eb/#wrT2WamOzjsMqnsXqyDEnQ

I suppose you could delete the folders ATX leaves behind. I use Geek Uninstaller and it scours my computer and registry for bits left behind, to completely rid my computer of software I no longer use.
-
Try running the 18 repair database batch file. You have to download it here: https://support.cch.com/kb/solution.aspx/000041746 Make sure you close all ATX services and run the batch file as administrator (right click).

Nope. I learned about this late last year, and 13 was already gone. Fortunately when we moved 13 to our new Win10 computer, it just worked.

how to print stock and loan basis from a 1120s return using ATX MAX
Abby Normal replied to cl2019's topic in General Chat
You still have to expand all pages and check that page in the print return dialog box. -
2017 was the last year, it was printed, then during the redesign of the form, and they decided (correctly) that all that was needed was a checkbox in the paid preparer section.
