  1. I just copied this from the FTB site. It is easier than going by memory since I go to it so often. This applies to both residents and non residents. Individuals who can be claimed as a dependent on their parent's return, or someone else's return, have a different filing requirement. Dependents must file a return if their gross income form all sources is more than their standard deduction. The filing requirement is based on the standard deduction even if the dependent itemizes. Single standard deduction for 2007 is $3,516
  2. Look up IRS PUB 550. In Chapter 4, it explains worthless secuties. The link is for "Frequently Asked Questions" and gives you an over view. http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq-kw210.html
  3. No problem. Can I quote you on other forums?
  4. The following is a "Quick Alert" I received on 2/5: ATTN: Software Developers, Return Transmitters, State Taxing Authorities, and Authorized IRS e-file Providers/EROs Due to last-minute changes to the Form 8835, Renewable Electricity, Refined Coal, and Indian Coal Production Credit, this form will be disabled for the remaining of the filing season.
  5. It is still there. On the Return Manager screen, click on forms. It should be about half way down. (At least in my program.)
  6. I had to wait ten days before they got around to calling me. AND that was after 4 emails. What they had me do, and I don't know if this will work, was: 1) go to the sign on screen and put in customer number 2) Type in ADMIN 3) In password, use your activation code with no dashes. If that works, it did for me, then you can reset your password. I don't know why they made it so comlicated. Its not our checking account or some such thing that needs high security.
  7. I have to find that Doctor, though mine seems to lean that way as he gets older!
  8. When I was locked out of my account, they finally contacted me after one week. Caller ID showed this number from Universal Tax - 706-290-7000.
  9. The Tax Book and Quickfinder both have a fair market guides that cover most anything that your clients would donate to the Goodwill or the Salvation Army.
  10. FREE?! Nothing from Uncle Sam ever comes free!

    CA. Acknowledments

While checking out a "replacement" tax software, I found the following issued at least two days ago. 2008 E-filing Season: Orrtax already received our first State Acknowledgements from California – the first ERO Acks in the nation for the 2008 Tax Filing Season! Orrtax is also ready for the 2008 Federal E-filing season. 12. Twice a day since I received the program and no problems.
  13. Try the "options" under client letter in the return itself. Clear all the check marks and then check off what you want, i.e check to print, other information, etc. I had to do that for the Fed and four states. I changed the Fed and combined the state letters and got Fed efiled and the states' efiled with mailing addresses! So each state had to be corrected. This was not a problem last year, so it must be a minor glitch this year.
  14. I just noticed the same thing in my client letter. I "discarded" the letter, then reinstalled it and went to options for the client letter. I removed the "check" marks and started all over and the letter came out right - efiled or in my case to be efiled and no mailing instructions.
  15. The problem was something about the wrong amounts of medicare premiums. For just straight SSA with no medicare the forms will be correct. This according to the Ca Society of Enrolled Agents.
  16. I sent a polite email to Mr. Gramlich suggesting his "user" base was not as happy as he would be led to imagine.
