  1. Thank you for your suggestion. I have no idea how to do that....... The error box that comes up says "can't connect to server." And - yes - using MAX.
  2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programs 3 times. I don't know what else to do. Any tips or tricks. I need to get some older returns done so this would be quite nice to have programs that work. 2018 works. 2019 works. 2022 works. The COVID years happen to be MIA on my computer. I hope this isn't a vax issue...........
  3. Please make is so I can have multiple LLCs in one 1040 and make it so they don't have to only be tied to a Sch C. And while we are at it, please make it so I can pay multiple fees at once for these LLCs (NY). Oh thank you great ones.
  4. Definitely "SALY!" Definitely "it depends" We need a big "maybe" on there. When in doubt "extend". and "Sharpen the pencil" In this town lately we could also have "create an LLC"
  5. The Taxpayer has created an LLC and will be taxed as a S-corp. I believe she will need to create a new plan with the new ID. Or can she amend the one she has? And - or - would this be eligible for credits as a new plan?
  6. Last year my client had paid into a Roth which was over amount allowed and was charged 450 bucks (7500 x 6%). This was actually the first time that I had a client that kept the Roth IRA contribution and paid the tax. But I didn't expect to see it again on the 2024 return! What the heck. Carry forward the 7500 and hit me again? I've never had to look at this before. Just when I thought "I knew everything."
  7. any tips on how to find it again? I have not had this happen before. But I did have to re-install my software after a thunderstorm a few days ago. Maybe I lost stuff then
  8. I had to uninstall and re-install my ATX software. Not sure if the thunderstorm is exactly why, but I am blaming the thunderstorm. So far I have only had to deal with 2023 and 2024. Haven't tried to open anything older yet. Kind of a pain. Has anyone else had trouble lately?
  9. Does it show the same account number.
  10. Honestly - the reason to change is "because her colleagues are set up as LLCs "or" electing S status." An attorney sent her to me before setting up anything. (Which is amazing!) She's been in business a while. I am sure she has all the usual insurances. Thank you DANRVAN for the reference to Fleischer.
  11. Which is the preferred method? Or should we just tell her to stick to the LLC. New client. She's an investment advisor. Has operated as sole proprietor and pays se tax of 30K. She reports a lot of dividends and cap gains. Other income from her husband's pension is minimal. She absolutely should be set up as an LLC. Has it in her head that she should be an S-corp. I'm wondering if it makes more sense to go one way or the other from LLC to S-corp or just start a corp and elect S status. If anyone has a pro or con either way. Fees are not an issue.
  12. I'm in NY. NYS likes to do more auditing than the IRS here. But I have successfully argued my way thru a handful of farm/ag audits. The first issue in NY is the ridiculous property taxes. Try to have a farm without property. Try to have profitable farm when you have to pay property taxes here. (yes - there are some credits available.) Second is interest. Farmers are always indebted. Interest is a fact of life eroding the profit. And third is depreciation. Most farmers are turning around equipment and taking advantage of bonus or Sec 179. After taking these things out of the picture, the hobby argument tightens up. Now we can talk about hours. And we can talk about why someone would do all the stuff as a hobby. And then I can start my rant about how the farmer can't seem to raise his price on milk as he needs. He can't recover the increasing costs of trucks or equipment or electric by raising the price of milk, or soy, or any other product Uncle Sam has his hands in. Any time the government subsidizes the price of the ag product, you will have a farm loss. So most of the time, the IRS or NYS ultimately have to back off.
  13. My fault. I forgot to untick the box for estimates to be paid of my client's account bank account this year. The first one came out on April 15. And 3 more are set up. What can I do to prevent the next 3 from coming out?
