  1. Now lets say Mr. Muldon, came to see you and didn't keep a accurate diary of his winnings and losses by receipts, tickets, or statements? In other words, Mr. Muldon is not a professional gambler or was not aware he had to keep a log. How would you report now?

    printer

+1 on the brother, I currently have the 5450DN and bought it at newegg, I would also recommend buying a couple of toner when you buy your printer, the toner that comes with the printer is not fully filled. This little machine is fast. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828113790
  3. Here is a tax scenario we work on at this tax update seminar I attend this past Saturday: Tom Muldoon went to a Vegas casino in 2013 on the following dates and the following resulted: This is the sum of all of his gambling activity for the year. May 1, 2013 Took $500 out of the ATM at the casino, hit a $5,000 slot payout 2 hours later, started drinking immediately (free drinks provided) left that evening with $1,000, which he deposited the next morning to his bank account. Found a W-2G for $5,000 in his jacket pocket when he had it cleaned a week later. $800 of federal tax was withheld on this W-2G. June 2, 2013 Took $1,000 out of the ATM at the casino, played all day and was up and down, hit a big sot for $22,000, again started drinking, left with -0-. Received a W-2G for $22,000 from the casino. $4,000 of federal tax was withheld on this W-2G. Don't assume that he bought his wife or girlfriend a diamond necklace with the winnings How would you reported on this his 1040, Sch A etc....? What amount would you report on line 21 of the 1040? MAS
  4. I came to the office today, looking like a construction worker, no way I was going to wear dress slacks in this weather. I really really feel bad for the homeless people, yesterday temp was brutal.
  5. No it was just a general tax update, nothing to do with Drake.
  6. I attended a 2013 tax seminar this past Saturday, the presenter did some interesting example that you can try at home, he basically took a high income client from 2012 and recreated it in 2013, he did a 1040 only, Sch A, Sch C etc... and the biggest change in 2013, is AMT goes down so drastically it can even disappear on a high income earner. Of course the additional Medicare Tax goes up, what I found astonishing is that the presenter (former IRS) had no words to explain why AMT went down by so much and he did say not to hold against his examples, that according to Drake the software was up to date. At the end he said if the tax program is accurate then congress did a major boo boo with AMT. I left all my material in my car, but I do recommend doing some examples, you'll be surprised, also don't forget to compare federal withholding, you might notices it increased.
  7. I like this one. http://bretwhissel.net/amortization/
  8. Moonshine, vodka or tequila to keep warm?
  9. Is an EFIN transferable? No. Your EFIN is not transferable and neither is your password. Even if you transfer your business by sale, gift or other disposition, you may not transfer your EFIN. You must protect your EFINS, Electronic Transmitter Identification Numbers (ETINs) and passwords from unauthorized use. My associate did all the paper work in early December and is still waiting for his EFIN.
  10. Yeah buddy, will get some food and beer after the seminar, my treat!!!

  12. I am not excited about the Chicago dates, people who need to travel will be spending July 4th traveling back. But on the bright side, if it's hosted in the same location as the prior one, I will be walking to the event.

Ok I emailed my associate and this what exactly happened to his computer, the windows updated automatically setup an admin password, since he didn't have the password, he had to create a new user profile in windows, then he had to transfer/move ATX 2012 (only program that gave him issues, prior years worked okay), when he would open ATX 2012, it was searching for the his old user profile, somehow ATX associates the user login profile from windows, that was a quick fix by calling ATX.

I don't know if this is the same issue, but this happened to my associate about two weeks ago, a windows update screwed up his ATX 2012, called atx and they tried everything and nothing work, he searched online and found someone in England had the same problem after the update #XX. The fix was very simple, he had to create a new user and transfer/move programs from the old to new user profile and that worked. MAS
  16. Actually that's very common in mom and pops computer shop, you need to walk out of there with a MS authenticity sticker or the actual installation disk. The sad part of it is the buyer is not aware until they encounter a situation like ^^^^. My dad took his laptop for a virus removal, walk in with windows 7 home edition and walk out with windows 7 ultimate and office 2007 for a $50 repair.
  17. How long does it take to unencrypte or hack a computer? I have an understanding that not all computers are hack when lost or stolen, most end up with a new OS system in a pawn shop for example. Even in Hollywood movies the computer has to fall in the wrong hands. We had a state auditor that would leave her laptop overnight in our office because it was a hassle to carry it everyday, but even if we wanted to do something with it, what would we do with a computer that has inscribe property of the state?
  18. I wonder how much ATX Community forum stock is worth today?
  19. They wished lol
  20. I made a major upgrade with my email system just last month, I dumped outlook for Gmail/apps for business. I was always reaching the maximum allowed and had to delete old emails and I finally had it.
  21. This the first year we put up a nativity scene along with our tree.
  22. After the Three Kings holiday.
  23. We were lucky to get them removed in appeals, I am even afraid to disclose how it happened publicly
  24. Does anyone know if the real estate professional status would be questioned when most of the properties are profitable? I know of a TP that has about 14 properties out of the 14, only 1 has not been rented because it's a big location and the rent is pretty high for the amount of square footage, TP has had no luck for the past 7-8 even though the asking rent has been reduced significant over the years. TP payer is able to pay for the mortgage from the profits of the other properties, but at the end this particular property has a huge loss, and when all the properties are combined there is no loss. 25. Lucho, please post the specs of the laptop you are referring to, for some reason I am afraid that laptop is design for social media use.
