  1. Uninstall ATX2012 first, reinstall it then try the updates. This worked for me on Win 7, you won't lose any clients you have already rolled over.
  2. Maybe they have become social responsible and don't want to offend the wabbits
  3. You will notice the difference right away, boot and loading time becomes faster . I am thinking of upgrading the RAM on my Mac (I use Mac's but run windows on them) from 2x2GB to 2x4GB just to be safe for another 2 years before I upgrade computer.
  4. Before buying any RAM for your computer check to see what is the maximun it can take, sometimes you find out things the hardway, my old laptop had 1GB and the max RAM was up to 2GB, I went out and bought 4GB of RAM, and guess what the extra 2GB was a waste because the laptop only recognizes up to the 2GB and it is maxed out at 2GB. MAS
  5. I learned this trick many years ago if you don't want to go through the taskmanager, completely shut down the PC (not a restart), let it boot and for to XP to start, don't open any programs or open the internet yet. Once XP is fully loaded, open your ATX program, only a few programs should be running in the background which shouldn't affect it, however if you are borderline with memory usage, it's probably time to upgrade it or avoid the hassle and buy a new PC. Even sometimes upgrading the memory doesn't help much when you have a slow processor
  6. This is just terrible, you probably have many programs running in the background, try ctrl-atl-del and check under taskmanager, you will see what is running. Remember these program run automatically, not that you have them all open at the same time. You might have to close some programs before opening ATX,
  7. Also don't be afraid to call them, one of my associate had to recreate like 10 years back for an IRS audit and he only had 3 years on his computer, ATX was nice enough to send him 1995 to 2007 for free, he was using Proseries for all those years. MAS
  8. I have not had any problems with ATX 2012 until todays update, I would get an error message saying the update could not be install because the ATX2012 path is missing. I was finally able to resolve the issue by uninstalling the program and reinstalling back, the two returns I had rolled over were still there and plus I was able to completely run the update.
  9. This question is for those that are having trouble with ATX2012, I am just wondering if your computer meets the minimun required to run ATX2012. Minimum System Requirements The minimum system requirements for 2012 ATX products are: Windows XP (SP3 or higher) 800 megahertz (MHz) processor or higher 1 gigabyte (GB) or more of RAM 8-speed or higher CD-ROM Drive Super VGA 1024 x 768, High Color/16 Bit display Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (SP1 or higher) A high-speed internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or T1/T3) A laser printer is required for printing W-2 and 1099 forms Internet access is required for downloading online product updates, including Client Accounting Suite, Trial Balance, Payroll, PaperlessPLUS™ and ATX tax compliance software users with 64bit machines that do not already have Microsoft .NET 4.0 installed. Recommended System Requirements For professional results, we recommend the following for most 2012 ATX products: Microsoft Windows XP (SP3 or higher, 32-bit or 64-bit*) or Windows 7 (SP1 or higher, 32-bit or 64-bit*) 2.0 GigaHertz (GHz) processor or higher 2 gigabyte (GB) or more of RAM 32-speed or higher CD-ROM Drive Super VGA 1024 x 768, High Color/16 Bit display or better Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher A high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or T1/T3) An e-mail account that supports file attachments A file backup system (backup tape, removable hard drive, CD-R, DVD-R, or similar) A laser printer *The Practical Tax Expert CD, included with the Total Tax Office and Total Tax & Accounting Office packages, requires a 32-bit operating system. The only problem I am having (ocassionaly) is when I exit from ATX2012 a get a pop up "CCHSFS Tax Preparation Software has stopped working". And here are my computer specs: Win 7 Pro 64-Bit i5 Core 2.50 GHz 4GB RAM
  10. Hopefully this is enough time for ATX to clear up the software glitches :)
  11. I agree, I've been using Microsoft professional since WIN2000 came out, them XP Pro and recently WIN7 Pro (waited 2 years before upgrading). It sort of irritates me when I see a business using home edition to run a business application.
  12. Has anyone concluded that all the problems we are having are due to the new design? Payroll compliance looks the same as ATX 2011 and before, but this isn't uncommon, think of windows 98, vista and now windows 8.
  13. Just out of curiosity, have you tried installing it on another computer?
  14. Form 8867 has been updated, take a look at page 4 and raise your right hand and pledge you will now be doing an IRS agent job. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8867.pdf
  15. Just found out this today, our city wants curb some shady tax preparer. http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/bacp/supp_info/tax_preparation_servicesbillofrightsforconsumers.html
  16. As far as I know, they are working on revising 1120, 1120S and 1065 (some changes to k-1's too) to remove line 1 Merchant card and third party payments, but you should be okay when the forms are finally updated, all your info should be there. MAS
  17. Maybe this has been posted here before, but worth taking another ok. http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/tax-court-no-mercy-for-donors-with-inad-35146/&sa=U&ei=n8voUMDZMeSE2gXu-IHADQ&ved=0CBoQFjAC&usg=AFQjCNEmuGhUP8uRyAiVeeJJ88wV2LL0Dg

  20. I need to fax or scan and email a tax return to a client that is in another state ASAP, I sign all tax returns I prepare, so I am wondering if there would be a problem if my signature appears a photocopy?
  21. This past tax season, the refund process was a disaster, after so many clients were calling me, "my refund is not here on the day you told me", now I cannot tell them something I don't know :)
  22. Howdy, this forum is mostly for tax preparer/professionals I doubt you will find a solution here, you might want to check on ATX website under My ATX for an answer. Another suggestion, there are some video's on youtube on how to remove Admins rights for a program. MAS

  24. Reminds me of this connection: http://www.qsl.net/w5www/presidential.html
  25. Does anyone know if there is a way to sort clients by forms? For example, if I want to see a list of all my clients with form Sch. E or EIC or Education Credit. I would hate opening one by one to find out who has what forms, so if someone knows how, please share it. Thanks MAS
