That was one of hold up of forms, IRS had to remove merchant services line from forms, just make sure 1099-K amounts are reported on the Sch C., I am not aware that it has to be entered as a 1099?

ATX doesn't backup files already backed up with no changes, if you make a backup of a file, open it or make a change, it will be backed up again. Export will create a copy each time of the client.

I export and backup tax client on a weekly basis to an external HD, sort of don't trust ATX2012. Not backing to an external HD is overlook by most, backing it up to the same computer doesn't help when the computer fails.

Yes the registration is very straight forward, but there are a couple of steps before uploading to SSA, contact me if you need help, I just did a couple so it's fresh in my head.

TP was offered a permenant job, with a sister company in Canada but the company does not have ties to the U.S. company, employer suggested for TP and family to become citizen of Canada to avoid having to declare Canada's income in the .S. From reading the instruction for 2555 and IRS forgeign earned income and housing exclusion/deductions, I cannot find any truth to it. There is a tax treaty betweent Canada/Mexico and the U.S. so it leaves me wondering... Thanks MAS

Ok thanks, I was not planning on correcting the 1099-R myself, I know there is a way to explain it, and that is what I am looking for, where do I put the explanation to attach to the tax return? It's probably something so simple.

Box 2 shows the same amount as box 1, distribution code is 2, box 2b and 2c are checked off, since it was a roll over, box 2 should be zero and box 7 should be G. Client brought in broker statement from the new account and it reflects the same amount from box 1 and 2.

What is the form number to correct a roll over that was reported incorrectly on the 1099-R? Thanks MAS

I was wondering if mileage deduction would be considered deductible (form 2106) if the employer pays for the TP auto lease? TP owns the car, pays for maintenance, repairs, insurance and fuel cost, the employer just pays for the monthly lease payments, I want to make sure he is not getting two benefits. Thanks MAS

Amish Mafia, I learned so much about the amish community watching that show, it was very educational. Yeah right, too bad the amish people can't watch that show and sue the idiots on the show and who ever produced it. -

These are not your sit-in type of restuarants, most are the one where you need to get in line to place your order, also the US post office has the same policy they will refuse service if you are on your cell phone. -

I don't prepare returns in front of client, but I do get bother when I am interviewing or explaining them their tax return and they have to pick up a call . I feel like putting up a sign saying cell phone must be off, I have seen some restaurants refusing to take your order if you are on your cell phone. -
I notice that too, I just re-enter as a new one.

Thanks, client walk-in with a friend reeking of alcohol at 10am this morning.

You are correct based on wording, charging extra is the right word This year, I've been telling clients, I need to put down other work where my hourly rate is higher to do your work, if you would like for me to put down my work and give priority to your return it's going to cost you X amount of dollars and it will be due at the time of pick up. Has worked so far.

Just wanted to throw out this question, do you profit from your clients emergencies? You don't hear from them, and all of a sudden they need their return fast. What your experience?

Bank statements Bank Statements, Recreate books, time is money, have them pay up front. If this was a strictly cash basis business and there is no bank statements, you are a busy man, send them down the road.

I remember my first time efiling tax returns, it was with a program called TurboTax by Chipsoft, it required a modem to connect and it would make that annoying noise, this was before modems were standard on computers.

Good luck Eli, I had the same problem last year with a client, it's an IRS mistake and they want for you to write a letter explaining it's the IRS mistake etc...... PM if you wish I have a sample letter already. Marco

I had to add this joke An old lady came into her doctor's office and confessed . . . . . .to an embarrassing problem: "I fart all the time, Doctor Johnson, but they're soundless, and they have no odor. In fact, since I've been here, I've farted no less than twenty times. What can I do?" "Here's a prescription, Mrs. Barker. Take these pills three times a day for seven days and come back and see me in a week." The next week, an upset Mrs. Barker marched into Dr. Johnson's office: "Doc, I don't know what was in those pills, but the problem is worse! I'm farting just as much, and they're still soundless, but now they smell terrible! What do you have to say for yourself?" "Calm down, Mrs. Barker," said the doctor soothingly. "Now that we've fixed your sinuses, we'll work on your hearing!"

Probably the same way you and other tax preparer have to do it as a last resort, don't think I pull out a magic ball or I have to consult my astrologer. Also like not if every new client has fixed assets.
