  1. I notice that too, I just re-enter as a new one.
  2. Ah power the of google: http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discussion:Tax_on_Profit_from_Sale_of_Rent_Control_Apartment
  3. Thanks, client walk-in with a friend reeking of alcohol at 10am this morning.
  4. You are correct based on wording, charging extra is the right word This year, I've been telling clients, I need to put down other work where my hourly rate is higher to do your work, if you would like for me to put down my work and give priority to your return it's going to cost you X amount of dollars and it will be due at the time of pick up. Has worked so far.
  5. Just wanted to throw out this question, do you profit from your clients emergencies? You don't hear from them, and all of a sudden they need their return fast. What your experience?

    Burned out

Bank statements Bank Statements, Recreate books, time is money, have them pay up front. If this was a strictly cash basis business and there is no bank statements, you are a busy man, send them down the road.
  7. I remember my first time efiling tax returns, it was with a program called TurboTax by Chipsoft, it required a modem to connect and it would make that annoying noise, this was before modems were standard on computers.
  8. Good luck Eli, I had the same problem last year with a client, it's an IRS mistake and they want for you to write a letter explaining it's the IRS mistake etc...... PM if you wish I have a sample letter already. Marco
  9. I had to add this joke An old lady came into her doctor's office and confessed . . . . . .to an embarrassing problem: "I fart all the time, Doctor Johnson, but they're soundless, and they have no odor. In fact, since I've been here, I've farted no less than twenty times. What can I do?" "Here's a prescription, Mrs. Barker. Take these pills three times a day for seven days and come back and see me in a week." The next week, an upset Mrs. Barker marched into Dr. Johnson's office: "Doc, I don't know what was in those pills, but the problem is worse! I'm farting just as much, and they're still soundless, but now they smell terrible! What do you have to say for yourself?" "Calm down, Mrs. Barker," said the doctor soothingly. "Now that we've fixed your sinuses, we'll work on your hearing!"
  10. The hard boil egg smell lol
  11. Probably the same way you and other tax preparer have to do it as a last resort, don't think I pull out a magic ball or I have to consult my astrologer. Also like not if every new client has fixed assets.
  12. I am the same, I don't give them copies of the depreciation schedule unless they ask for it, 9 of 10 times new clients don't want for me to call the prior preparer, so like any other champ I recreate it to match prior years (not a problem for me) IRS agent didn't have a problem with a recreated schedule, in the past I had to call prior preparers and most are not very friendly or helpful, I once had a guy hung up on me and cursed me out
  13. Yikes, I better speed it up then.
  14. I need to send a handful of corporate extensions, does anyone know if there is a short cut to prepare them in bulk, instead of opening one by one? Thanks MAS

    12.11

My computer was so slow in general yesterday, every program was dragging, midday I said the hell with this and did a complete shut down, low and behold there were 3 critical updates from Microsoft ready to be installed. It took 7-10 minutes before the computer shut down, after the install the computer was a bit faster, however I am still working on 12.0 on a WIN7 64-bit machine, so check to see if there are any critical updates waiting to be installed.

  17. Here are some good points, it's seems it won't qualify medical or casualty loss. http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discussion:Black_Mold_Casualty_Loss
  18. Direct from Taxmama's mouth http://youtube.com/watch?v=li3RUWUJY3Q
  19. FYI the IRS is starting to audit years where form 1139 was used, in addition the years of losses claimed on form 1139 are also audit, no matter if the statue of limitation has expired.
  20. I look at 2012 as a beta, and we were are the test dummy's, after the tax season and everyone stops complaining they are going to get their act together and fix it, 2013 should have all the issues resolved. Crossing fingers.
  21. Try this, this worked for me, rename the client to something else, then try opening. I just renamed it back after it opened.
  22. I retract what I said, my computer is still showing 3.5. Will try again.
  23. Updated to 4.5, and I notice no difference at all, still takes about 60 seconds to open.
