  1. Maybe this the reason why ATX made these changes for 2012: If you don't want to read the article here is a short clip from it. “The enhancements we’ve added to ATX 2012 make tax preparation as simple and stress-free as possible, and that’s a testament to a lot of hard work by a lot of dedicated people who took the time to listen to what tax professionals said they needed and then turned those comments into the software enhancements in ATX 2012,” said Jeff Gramlich, President of CCH SFS. “Tax professionals told us they needed software which met their unique needs and didn’t force them into cookie-cutter solutions,” http://www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/news/10772481/cch-sfs-announces-atx-2012

  3. Another big problem folks seem to over look, is what is connect to the computer e.g. external hard drives. I have two external hard drive, one is solely to for windows 7 hard drive backup and the other is for files I want to manually backup and carbonite mirror image, the drive that is used to for carbonite is always running and slows down the performance of the computer, if I disconnect the that hard drive and restart the computer, it loads very quick and it seems to be faster. 4. I would recommend Quickbooks for Mac (what is affordable to them?) or simply buy a PC and get Medlin. I only use Mac's, however I spend extra money to be able to run Windows on them and it does get expensive for each computer. MAS
  5. Funny, but true. I see tons of TV commercials, bring in your tax refund and buy this car, furniture etc.... We will even prepare your return.... I don't recommend none of this to my clients, I always tell them to save it and pay me first.
  6. Too bad we can't ask how much cash money they have under the mattress, savings or if they receive food stamps or a housing allowance that frees up some of their earned income, but you will be surprised. In my experience I have seen TP make a couple of thousands, but have a few thousands in savings and this is considered low income?
  7. Gives me an idea.. http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t4#/video/us/2013/01/17/mxp-man-pays-14k-tax-bill-with-change.hln
  8. The 1099-k is a disaster, for example if you own a restaurant and most of your sales are credit cards sales and there are tips, your 1099-k will show the tips as part of the monthly gross sales. What do most restaurant and employees do? They don't report tips therefore there is a discrepancy between the tax return and the 1099-k. Well times have changed.

  10. What are your computer specs? Sounds like you have memory issues.
  11. Here is something the TV commercial doesn't tell you or the fine print is so small it's unreadable. http://www.streetinsider.com/Corporate+News/H%26R+Block+(HRB)+Announces+Extension+of+Emerald+Advance+Offer/8009301.html If the link doesn't work google HRB Extension of Emerald Advance

  13. I guess now it really doesn't matter what happens anymore, the biggest fraud has been EIC and I think this year the IRS got it right
  14. I agree, with more and more hipster and metrosexuals (lol it's a real word), we could be out of business
  15. Uninstall ATX2012 first, reinstall it then try the updates. This worked for me on Win 7, you won't lose any clients you have already rolled over.
  16. Maybe they have become social responsible and don't want to offend the wabbits
  17. You will notice the difference right away, boot and loading time becomes faster . I am thinking of upgrading the RAM on my Mac (I use Mac's but run windows on them) from 2x2GB to 2x4GB just to be safe for another 2 years before I upgrade computer.
  18. Before buying any RAM for your computer check to see what is the maximun it can take, sometimes you find out things the hardway, my old laptop had 1GB and the max RAM was up to 2GB, I went out and bought 4GB of RAM, and guess what the extra 2GB was a waste because the laptop only recognizes up to the 2GB and it is maxed out at 2GB. MAS
  19. I learned this trick many years ago if you don't want to go through the taskmanager, completely shut down the PC (not a restart), let it boot and for to XP to start, don't open any programs or open the internet yet. Once XP is fully loaded, open your ATX program, only a few programs should be running in the background which shouldn't affect it, however if you are borderline with memory usage, it's probably time to upgrade it or avoid the hassle and buy a new PC. Even sometimes upgrading the memory doesn't help much when you have a slow processor
  20. This is just terrible, you probably have many programs running in the background, try ctrl-atl-del and check under taskmanager, you will see what is running. Remember these program run automatically, not that you have them all open at the same time. You might have to close some programs before opening ATX,
  21. Also don't be afraid to call them, one of my associate had to recreate like 10 years back for an IRS audit and he only had 3 years on his computer, ATX was nice enough to send him 1995 to 2007 for free, he was using Proseries for all those years. MAS
  22. I have not had any problems with ATX 2012 until todays update, I would get an error message saying the update could not be install because the ATX2012 path is missing. I was finally able to resolve the issue by uninstalling the program and reinstalling back, the two returns I had rolled over were still there and plus I was able to completely run the update.
  23. This question is for those that are having trouble with ATX2012, I am just wondering if your computer meets the minimun required to run ATX2012. Minimum System Requirements The minimum system requirements for 2012 ATX products are: Windows XP (SP3 or higher) 800 megahertz (MHz) processor or higher 1 gigabyte (GB) or more of RAM 8-speed or higher CD-ROM Drive Super VGA 1024 x 768, High Color/16 Bit display Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (SP1 or higher) A high-speed internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or T1/T3) A laser printer is required for printing W-2 and 1099 forms Internet access is required for downloading online product updates, including Client Accounting Suite, Trial Balance, Payroll, PaperlessPLUS™ and ATX tax compliance software users with 64bit machines that do not already have Microsoft .NET 4.0 installed. Recommended System Requirements For professional results, we recommend the following for most 2012 ATX products: Microsoft Windows XP (SP3 or higher, 32-bit or 64-bit*) or Windows 7 (SP1 or higher, 32-bit or 64-bit*) 2.0 GigaHertz (GHz) processor or higher 2 gigabyte (GB) or more of RAM 32-speed or higher CD-ROM Drive Super VGA 1024 x 768, High Color/16 Bit display or better Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher A high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or T1/T3) An e-mail account that supports file attachments A file backup system (backup tape, removable hard drive, CD-R, DVD-R, or similar) A laser printer *The Practical Tax Expert CD, included with the Total Tax Office and Total Tax & Accounting Office packages, requires a 32-bit operating system. The only problem I am having (ocassionaly) is when I exit from ATX2012 a get a pop up "CCHSFS Tax Preparation Software has stopped working". And here are my computer specs: Win 7 Pro 64-Bit i5 Core 2.50 GHz 4GB RAM
  24. Hopefully this is enough time for ATX to clear up the software glitches :)
  25. I agree, I've been using Microsoft professional since WIN2000 came out, them XP Pro and recently WIN7 Pro (waited 2 years before upgrading). It sort of irritates me when I see a business using home edition to run a business application.
