Millions Of Taxpayers Will Have A Longer Wait For Tax Refunds Next Year
Lion EA replied to Elrod's topic in General Chat
My grown kids who make little in PA coal country had to send in copies of their 1095 forms (why? it was Medicaid. Doesn't the IRS have access to those?) and were finally told that they will receive an explanation 31 May of why their refund is being reduced by $500. Had a baby prematurely in November, so a refund for 2015. And, my first filer of the season, a little old man with SS and a tiny pension who's had the same amount w/h from SS for years and years just received his refund. I don't have any returns with less income than those two. Why doesn't the IRS chase people with huge refunds or big changes from year to year or SE income or the thieves that stole my SSN last year?! -
On mine, the folders are after the individual programs, but Accessories is almost at the top of the folders. I hadn't kept it open for awhile, so did a Search for Sticky Notes and clicked on it when it showed up in the results. Handy little program. Thank you, John, for the reminder.

I'm happy that you're smart enough to not have to read in that the OP is a she and the brother is not a student and 25 matters for EIC with a QC (it does?) and just know all those things. I do not, and that's why I post. I'm not as smart as you and am trying to be educated and do not understand why you're being so snippy to me with your sarcastic Huh? and "file on his own" means Single (I file on my own and am married, so I do need to learn) and other pronouncements. If you're not going to explain why, then yell at me privately instead of in front of the whole group. Why are my questions to try to understand just hypotheticals, but your pronouncements are your skill at reading between the lines and are to be taken at "face value"? Yes, I saw the 2015, but if OP (I didn't know that Schiralli was a female name; I thought it was the last name of the CPA posting) is dealing with the living situation for the first time on the 2015 return, them maybe the sons lived with M&D for more than half the year or older son, if a student, is away for school, or.... If son graduated in May 2015 (I know that's hypothetical and you, of course, know the actual, but how will I know until you tell me?) and was injured months later as Ms. Schiralli said, then when did the boys move in together? I can understand some of what you say about QC vs. QR, but I don't understand things like why "boys are in their 20s...At that age, being a student or not wouldn't matter." I'm sorry my grasp of multiple generations doesn't measure up to your standards. -

NOW in their 20's, without saying if he's asking for now/2016 or filing a prior year return and how long ago. At 20 or 21 or 22 or 23, being a student or not would matter a LOT if the older brother qualified as a QC of his parents, which is what the OP would like. -
Sticky Notes. Or, maybe Windows Sticky Notes. Search on it. Drag it down to the bar, so they're always handy.

I know parents/anyone can't claim QR if same child can be QC of another. I was just stepping through the relationships/qualifications that others had brought up, some of which were still being disagreed on. I started with the OP which was exploring what's possible for the parents. Almost all is hypothetical without further facts from the OP. How old is the older brother? Is he a student? Is he married? -
I used them in the past, but have gotten away from it. Don't remember why, though.

QR doesn't have to live with taxpayer. So, that helps parents take disabled child as QR. However, it's been stated that older brother qualifies to take younger brother as QC. Is that only because parents supported both sons, so disabled child did not pay more than half his own support? Brother is a relationship that qualifies for EIC. So, older brother can take dependency and EIC. Not HoH, though, as he doesn't pay at least half the upkeep of the house, right? If the disabled brother was older, do some of the answers change? For EIC, qualifying child must be younger than taxpayer. For QC, younger than taxpayer? -

There are certain relationships that do NOT have to live with you to qualify. Is "child" one of those? -
Thank you Mr. Normal !!

Does that mean I again have to do something on my desktop and on my laptop to keep Win10 from installing, or at least from nagging me incessantly?

Check to see if your E&O carrier has templates for you to use.

Tax Court: Cost Of Ralph Lauren Salesman's Polo Wardrobe

Check with your state law. Depending on how held, and if not a community property state, Jane's percentage could pass to her children while husband still owns his percentage. Cultivate a friendly, local lawyer.

Exactly. That's what he himself said. But, he did not understand what he said.

They'll have to drag out their purchase paperwork anyway to get closing costs that can be deductible, so see if the land is broken out there. If not, the tax assessor's office would have the breakout when they purchased the property, but maybe using a formulaic assessment instance of actual purchase price; use that ratio with their purchase price. Add the costs of leveling to land basis, right?

You stated your research showed you can elect to use COD to reduce the basis of depreciable property. I agree with that. Depreciable property.

Depreciable property.

I followed someone's instructions to stop that on my office desktop. Hadn't gotten to it on my laptop. Came in one morning with it shut down, because it was waiting for a response from me and hadn't had one all night. It had downloaded and installed Windows 10 and was waiting for me to accept Terms or something like that. I declined, so it uninstalled itself. Which took a long time but was worth the wait. I have a Share folder between the two computers, so do NOT want them on two different operating systems.

I get "card not present" emails on my biz card to report online purchases. But, that won't help when it's one of those cloned cards.
-
I emailed it without a personalized greeting, so it looks very auto-respondish. But, I jam up my mailbox when I put in an auto-response, because I have so many newsletters and junk that would get auto-responses, and then in turn I get their auto-responses to not respond to their auto mailbox address! I'm just going to cut/paste for now. Maybe set up an auto-response Sunday before we leave.

I don't think I've ever recommended that form before, because we all make mistakes. But, your buyer is the perfect use!

I love it, Judy! I copied it word for word and emailed it. I also added "We are on vacation and return to the office Tuesday 3 May." at the beginning. Maybe I should've said "well-deserved vacation." I think I'm going to make it my voice-mail greeting, also!

My text, call, AND email guy is still at it. When can we have it done for good? I haven't answered him yet. Leaving to visit my new granddaughter for the first time since Christmas on Sunday, so catching up with laundry. Going to postponed doctors' appointments yesterday and today. Colleague has surgery Thursday. Appalachia Service Project car wash fund raiser Saturday. Lay reader Sunday so have readings & introductions to prepare. How do I politely tell him I'm on vacation until May and then there are 16 people ahead of him? Or that I can't find my crystal ball?
